Should i buy a dedicated internal soundcard for my Siberia v2's or the external usb one designed for the headset with the option for virtual surround sound. thanks :)
I wouldnt buy a soundcard, the performance just doesnt go anywhere near a DAC for music. I was shocked to see a HD800 when the video started though... Audio is not sparing on tight wallets, but everybody should try the HD800 with a good DAC and some FLAC files, that will convey what truly is high-end.
@Raykomak I bet you've never used either these nor Beats. Beats are physically uncomfortable, they are horrible physically, sound quality is better on 80$ Sony headphones and even better, those are comfortable; you're only buying the name of a rapper to put on your headphones when you buy beats. Sennheiser is a much better brand, they really give you what you pay for, amazing sound quality and sometimes you don't even notice your headphones on your head, that's good sound.
I wear the Logitech G930 which I bought for $130. Same physical speaker as $240 razor headset and similar Astro headphones. Excellent build quality, USB with it's own driver, and it's wireless (and can charge while you wear it).
It sounds amazing, the best headset I've ever worn. Two others in my guild now wear the same headphones, and we're all very satisfied gamers.
Worth mentioning it has G-keys and volume slider + mute button on the outside of the left earcup. Also, wireless.
@Coxy13131 Astros are way too overpriced and dont deliver nearly as good a soundstage as a amped headphone. Stay away from astros and beats for your own sake.
Love your show watch it all the time. One thing I think is important to bring up with headphones art the connections between cable and "part". No matter what headset I've used they always start glitching. I try working around it with straps but it's always a matter of time, especially for the volume adjusters and mic-mutes on the cable.
Personally, I like my Plantronics GameCom 777's (50mm drivers, 3.5mm jacks, USB soundcard feeds either 2-channel or 7.1-channel, boom mic tucks inside left arm. ~$150 AUD) on my main gaming rig and GameCom 355's for my laptop (about $50 AUD at EBGames, 40mm drivers, 3.5mm jacks, boom mic free-floats when tucked).
I am considering moving to a set of Logitech G930's (~$170 AUD at iiBuy.com.au) to get away from wires.
Linus, btw impeadance has nothing to do with power "Electrical impedance, or simply impedance, is the measure of the opposition that a circuit presents to the passage of a current when a voltage is applied. In quantitative terms, it is the complex ratio of the voltage to the current in an alternating current (AC) circuit." -Wikipedia (electrical impedance or just impedance)
@rafux1991 they are great for gaming and music. However you really can't really take them on public transport. They are an open design, This means that people are going to hear your music if they are close to you. Also the the audio jack is huge. Its almost the size of my iPhone.
Hello, im wondering if i can plug a usb 2.0 device into a usb 3.0 port? I only have 1 usb2.0 and 1 usb 3.0 port on the front of my case. I would like to plug in a controller and a headset in to these ports.
i bought a atari headset a few weeks ago and paid £45 for them i was very pleased with them at first then i left them on a stand put them back on the day after for a few hours took them off and the barcket theat keeps them to the strap
Thinking about picking up a pair of Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro 250Ohms, just need an affordable DAC or Soundcard. Already got an amp, so no shitty integrated amp is needed. Any suggestions?
@dq9677 as much as possible i would stay away from soundcards. i like to stick with DACs. you can try nuForce uDac2 for entry level, im using it right now. if you're looking at higher quality DACs... be ready to spend at least 300 dollars.
to all: I've had the logitech g930 for three months and I love, it's great for gaming, music and so on. I can realy recomend this, plus it's wireless which is awesome! I can game without a cable for 12 hours!
If you want actual good quality, you don't go the cheap USB soundcard route, you get a 3.5mm Headset like the Steelseries 7H, allowing the use of PCI sound cards and get the BOOM and no static, that people want.
@AwesomeGamingReviews 7.1 / 5.1 headphones are a gimmick. If they actually added something better to the listening experience in any application, professional brands like Sennheiser would make them, and Razer headphones are not even close to their quality or knowledge on audio equipment.
@Frozenkex I have the Tritton AX Pro headset and it has true 5.1 and it's amazing. I've also listened to others such as the sennheiser PC 350 and they arent as good.
@AngelEyesC4 Yes open headphones done right have better bass. If you want thundering mega-bass closed would be better, but an open construction alows airflow that is needed for excellent bass. The HD 800 there for example, you won't find much better headphone bass than that. You get the punch, great extension, texture and the definition you simply won't get with a closed design. Almost every high end headphone is an open design. It gives better sound.
Linus, you should check out the PlayStation Wireless Stereo Headset. It delivers great sound, much better then I expected and they suit me almost perfectly. Who knows, maybe you'd even like it.
iam really intrested into buying pc350 or pc360 from sennheiser so any thought which one should i buy , iam looking for a good bass direction and also watching movies content .
Pretty good video Linus btw. Good, basic, no-nonsense explanation. If you are looking for a real kick-ass headphone rig for gaming take a look at the smyth realiser.
@Satfgk no, no they dont. open headphones have worse bass compared to a closed headphone because the sound will leak out and you will lose the bass "punch".
@DOWWADC I'll focus on the HS1/HS1As because they are the only ones I have used. (I shouldn't have said stay away from Corsair audio as a whole). They really lack bass and the build quality is not that great. My microphone broke a month or so after using the product although I could not determine the cause of that at all, I had always been careful with it. The mic was too quiet anyways.
I like the g35's I mostly game on my laptop for mobility reasons, so I dont have a high end sound card, or cant upgrade to one. But the sound card in the g35's is better than any on-board sound, so its a good solution for me :)

I'm not audiophile but I wouldn't invest so much on headphones or even a sound card, I do listen to a lot of music but the Sony XB300 I have is sufficient.. I just want headphones that perform decently and last long.. I think I bought mines sometime in 2010.. still working perfectly..
Linus! I'm shopping for a $60~100 headphones and Sony mdr-xb500 and xb700 seemed popular. Have you tried them? Do you think I'll need a sound card? Thanks! Your videos are soooo helpful!
@jaehhahn I have the XB700 and tried the XB500.. they might be great for gaming and bassheavy music. they are easy to drive but with better amp or sc will improve the bass quality.
XB700 = rumbling bass, soft punching, sparkling treble but tend to be a little bit harsh sometimes
XB500 = better overall balance, rolled off treble ( a little darker sounding) punchier bass
@jaehhahn I am more of an audio lover or audiophile they might say.. so I prefer a Digital Analog Converter to process and convert my audio instead of SC. It would be great if you use an sc with software that enables EQing.. you might wanna tame down the highs and treble a wee bit. jm2c
This isn't anything about sound but oh well. I Have to make a choice between two laptops one is a targa traveller mt 30 ( 512 mb ram, 1.6 Amd turion 64 single core, Ati radeon xpress 200 64-128 mb card, a half assed dvd drive and a 12' display) and a Thinkpad t30 ( p4 2.0 ghz 1 gb ram , ati mobility radeon 7500 16 mb 14' display and working dvd). I know they are old but can someone help me witch to choose cuz i want to play games on it.
Linus I have a request. SATA III has been out for a while, not long, but a little, however, you see these hard drives that use SATA III. We all know that hard drives could never reach SATA III speeds. What I am requesting is you do a video comparing the speeds of a SATA III and SATA II drive on their native controller then put one against the other on the other's controller and compare their speeds and maybe explain the results. Thanks and love your channel. :)
so all onboard sound is BS? Even realtek HD audio? I dont realy think so. It may be just me, but I have an Steelseries Siberia v2 on an Realtek HD chip. The second PC here has an asus xonar and i once had an upperclass x-fi for testing in my system. The different between the the onboard chip and the soundcards was so minor, that I personaly wouldn't even pay 10 bucks for it. It just the x-fi software that makes the deal but on the other hand: who can tell if it'S supposed to sound like that?!
@Dj3dda IF a SS Siberia V2 is worthless, then I will stay with bullshit. Iam Not audiophile and a Headset for over 100 $ is way over that level what i would pay for an headset
Just buy headsets from makers that don't put a headset onto the market every month, because you know they don't care about quality, but quantity and money. Even the best headsets comes with poor cables, it's just the nature of the beast. Cables should be a thing of the past, do we really want to be hindered to move about, and need to take off the headset every time we feel thirsty? Logitech 930, beautiful, even if it's stereo!
@MrDRIFT31 Best soundscard price/quality ratio are around 120$. I would say to you (Auzentech X-Fi Forte) which I had or the (Auzentech X-Meridian 2G) which I now have, ONLY if you know you will replace every opamps otherwise stay with the Forte as the 2G don't even have a dedicated amp jack.
As for headphones, best ratio is the HD555 at 135$, in the 100-150$ range. Else 1 noticeable step above is the AKG K702 at 280-300$. Anything under that is just crap imo and above is overpriced.
@KriegsMaschine cheers mate this has all helped me heaps! i have logitech z-5500's and looking at a decent headset still researching, this has helped heaps though!
I like the timing of this video. Chinese new years is around the way and my aunt always gives me $100. I thought of buying headsets since my Logitech ls11 suck. Thanks for a quick guide :)
@Yeremita This is the NCIX channel, they don't even carry those brands. So obviously he's going to showcase what NCIX DOES carry. So don't be such a dick head, and make you're own video about headphones with the brands you mentioned.
@Yeremita In my opinion it's more of a (We only show products we have at our store) since it's mostly anyway regular buyers from ncix who are likely to watch these videos. Also the point of these video is to sell more stuff at ncix while informating users. No point for them to tell them some product is awesome but the don't have it so go buy it elsewhere, that would be stupid from them.
I agree thought they should get more high-end brands. I went from their HD555 to a AKG K702, it's night & day
@discudabinu15 Those overpriced, bass-heavy not-so-much else really headphones? No thanks, I can get better quality for 3/4 of the price of those easily.
I just want a quality, full-range, true surround-sound headset with a quality mic, 3.5mm or 6.3mm analog jacks, all for under $200. I love the Xense which is an ASUS Xonar and Sennheiser headset combo, but that's $300 and hard to find sometimes.
I am an audiophile, but my addiction to quality sound is not worth more than $500 between an audio card and headset.
Creative tactic 3d Sigma, comes with laptop external sound card, amazing audio quality, comfy as hell, would be hard pressed to find better price/performance.
Maybe it's because I follow both this channel and the Linustechtips channels very closely, but I feel like you're beating a dead horse with another headphone/headset video...
If your not looking to buy a crazy setup in order to drive something like mid to high end Sennheiser's and want some low impedance cans I would recommend some Grado SR60i's or SR80i's as an entry level headphone that are probably the best bang for your buck. If your willing to spend more the Grado SR325is are amazing sounding and of course you can go to their high end with the RS2i's and RS1's which are also very easy to drive.

@l3E7Studios Sustained speeds are the same. The useful aspect of SATAIII for hard disks is the hard drive cache for burst usage.

I got a Logtiech G930 Wireless headset yesterday, Would a soundcard make the audio quality any better even with USB?
Haydenatorofwow 1 month ago
@Haydenatorofwow no, never use usb if you have any kind of sound gear (in most cases)
ctoon6 1 month ago
@Haydenatorofwow the whole point of a soundcard is the DAC( digital to analogue converter) therefore you wont find a soundcard that has a USB out.
cockyt4523 1 month ago
@cockyt4523 Digital out is called coaxial/optical.

so all onboard sound is BS? Even realtek HD audio? I dont realy think so. It may be just me, but I have an Steelseries Siberia v2 on an Realtek HD chip. The second PC here has an asus xonar and i once had an upperclass x-fi for testing in my system. The different between the the onboard chip and the soundcards was so minor, that I personaly wouldn't even pay 10 bucks for it. It just the x-fi software that makes the deal but on the other hand: who can tell if it'S supposed to sound like that?!
dharkbizkit 1 month ago
@dharkbizkit Considering you are using a worthless headset I'd say bullshit.
Dj3dda 1 month ago
@Dj3dda IF a SS Siberia V2 is worthless, then I will stay with bullshit. Iam Not audiophile and a Headset for over 100 $ is way over that level what i would pay for an headset
dharkbizkit 1 month ago
Just buy headsets from makers that don't put a headset onto the market every month, because you know they don't care about quality, but quantity and money. Even the best headsets comes with poor cables, it's just the nature of the beast. Cables should be a thing of the past, do we really want to be hindered to move about, and need to take off the headset every time we feel thirsty? Logitech 930, beautiful, even if it's stereo!

MrDRIFT31 1 month ago
@MrDRIFT31 Best soundscard price/quality ratio are around 120$. I would say to you (Auzentech X-Fi Forte) which I had or the (Auzentech X-Meridian 2G) which I now have, ONLY if you know you will replace every opamps otherwise stay with the Forte as the 2G don't even have a dedicated amp jack.
As for headphones, best ratio is the HD555 at 135$, in the 100-150$ range. Else 1 noticeable step above is the AKG K702 at 280-300$. Anything under that is just crap imo and above is overpriced.

@Yeremita Not a guide to specific products. More of a guide to "what to look for". I think these rules will still apply one way or another.
NCIXcom 1 month ago 66

These HD800 headphones are priced at $1,500.
And I thought the Bose A20 headset was expensive.

Headsets (headphones with microphones) are shit. Get a pair of headphones and desktop or clip-on microphone.
Also get a pair of better headphones first rather than spending a lot of money on a soundcard.

cockyt4523 1 month ago
@cockyt4523 Unfortunately, you are incorrect. The 558 and 598 are in the same generation. The 598 is actually one "grade" higher than the 558.

@Adrastos34 i see lots of people recommending those, I've never tried them but they
