  • So LITTLE of 90s Favre greatness is on youtube. All he did from 92-99 was tromp defenses when he ran.

  • Best quarterback ever to play the game.

  • 31 completions where was the other teams defense at

  • @kantelier Back then he was just THAT good.

  • @kantelier you must not remember when Favre was real young. He was the most feared player, especially in situations like this game had where the Packers were down and it was late in the 4th cuz he always came back to win, usually in a dramatic fashion.

  • @WarEagle140 im only 17 so i dont know if i was around during his prime i wish i was

  • @kantelier that's what YouTube is for.. You can see all the highlights from (mostly) every player. If you want to see Favre's touchdown passes from 1992-2001 you can type in the search box on youtube "Brett Favre Touchdowns 1992" (you can put in any year instead of 1992, 95-97 were the most amazing ones but I recommend watching them all, it'll give you a good feel for the type of throws he can make)

  • RIP County Stadium. This was an awesome way for the Pack to say goodbye.

  • #97 is bill goldberg

  • The Packers had more than enough combined offense and defense, they just collapsed in the playoffs year after year, and I can't help but think that Favre's QB rating nearly falling in half from one week to the next in the playoffs might have had something to do with it, especially over two sub-generations of Packer teams and a whole different team altogether with the Vikings. Averaging 2.75 turnovers a playoff exit game in a decade simply isn't going to get it done.

  • Sorry it takes so much to rebut, but it is easier to make an assertion in one sentence, but takes several to effectively refute.

As for the Packers not having enough Defense, pro-football-reference has their SRS calculation (team rating) that can be broken down between the O (OSRS) and the D (DSRS) Summing all the components from 1992-2007, the Pack are #2 in OSRS, and about 12th in DSRS. BUT, all the other teams ahead on DSRS were overall WORSE than the Packers in total except the Pats.

  • 1) I should qualify the short Y/A for Favre in the modern era as far as upper tier QB's. Of the guys people are ranking in the top 5's or top 10's, Favre is by far the shortest.

    2) Also, to be clear, I'm not saying that Favre should have won 5 Super Bowls like the 49ers. But he had more than enough talent to make more headway in the playoffs than he did. Again, being the best regular season team for 16 years and a majority of the backend ending in the P.O.'s with Favre turnovers. Not good.

  • Part 4 Simply put, Favre had a career 86 QB rating with an inflated completion %, TD count, and YAC. Short, low risk/high completion passes, TD's passed in most other teams would have run in, and historically high yards-after-catch. And yet STILL had a relatively low QB rating.

Again, Favre may not have had Rice type talent, but most other team, especially in the NFC, didn't either. The Eagles went to FOUR straight NFCCG and a SB with Pinkston and Thrash, no one is mistaking them for Rice.

  • Part 3 As for not having a Wayne or a Harrison to throw to, it wasn't in the scheme, under Holmgren or Sherman. And there was a REASON for it. Holmgren had to tailor the offense to no only fool the defense, but to HEM IN BAD BRETT. Favre has made a career out of the short pass and the receiver getting YAC. Favre was rarely a quality downfield passer. So the Holmgren version of the WCO relied on dumps, screens, and flares. Favre has one of the shortest yards per attempt in the modern era.

  • until today, i had no idea the packers played some home games at county stadium. that's kinda cool.

  • @Ninety2q Yea from 1953-1994. It was the last stadium that featured the "old school" way, like having both teams share a sideline. Tahats ironic because Lameau field was the first stadium built only for football.

  • @jimmylegs06 Was it just to split up games because Lambeau wasn't fit for 8 homes games or did they want to feed into the Milwaukee fan base more?

  • @Ninety2q In the 1930s Milwaukee supported the Packes when they were in financial trouble. The Packers awarded them a few games a year because of it.

  • CHEESE HEAD!!!!!!!

  • Hey thomas what's up lol you are right. Manning is actually dealing with the same hate lately. Wayne has lost a step, Sanders stays hurt, James is long gone etc. Manning is carrying his teams but he's not carrying them to the SB and is getting unfairly booed because of it.

  • I was lookin at his rushing stats over the years... in 1998 he had a 35 yard run, in 1995 he had a 40 yard run, and in 1994 he had a 36 yard run for a touchdown! these are not easy runs, ladies and gentlemen.

the run here seemed particularly brave, its 3rd down, no time left on the clock, frigid cold in Green Bay, and he still dove balls-out for that game-winning touchdown. I mean even this last season he had a brave 10-yard run to clinch the game vs. the Redskins.

    favre's got legs too, folks!

  • @OettingerCroat gotta correct myself, frigid cold in *Milwaukee.

  • Who announced this game for CBS?

  • @sarnow76 it was FOX and it was joe buck and some other guy.

  • @jimmylegs06

i remember this game, i was in 7th grade here in Georgia. joe buck's partner was Tim Green. that was the other guy. Tim Green used to play for the Falcons.

  • @sarnow76 - I know that Tim Green was the color analyst. Not sure who the play-by-play guy was, but jimmylegs says it was Joe Buck, so that's likely correct.

The reason I know that Tim Green was one of the announcers is b/c I remember him talking about working this game in his book "The Dark Side of the Game". It was in his chapter on stingers, & he talked about the "stinger" that Sterling Sharpe got in this game that ended his career.

  • Brett Favre was Drafted by the Falcons in 1991.

  • Good to see bret this young and mobile!! He will always be a PACKER!!

Thanks for all the great times #4....and the the few bad ones....lol

  • I'm pretty sure this happened before then but I'll check it out! Thanks!

  • Not his greatest play but a very typical play of the time. People forget that he was a good rusher who didn't mind taking hits for years. There is so much more to the guy than what's available on the internet. My all time favorite Favre play is a scramble and pass. I *think* I saw it on a highlight reel on TV recently but otherwise I haven't seen it since the 90s. It was a Sunday afternoon game and it involved him running in a complete circle to fake out the D lol!

  • Not his greatest play but a very good one.

  • Greatest player ever. Love him whether he's a Falcon, Packer, Jet, Viking, or anyother team....except the Pats...

  • @ACDCoverdose Pats Rule!!!! And at least Tom Brady doesnt take a pic of his cock to another girl when he's married

  • @falconssrock Yea i cant stand the guy anymore. But being a Packer fan ill never forget these years. There was a time when he wasnt a narcissistic dousche.

  • @jimmylegs06 Yeah, I'm a enormous Vikings fan and I am sick of the excuses. Last year he could have been Governor of MN if he wanted to, but this year... not so much. I still will always respect him for the way he plays the game. He leaves his heart out on the field and I really wish more players did that.

  • @jbsmg Was last year worth it? Because he gave up everything for one great season with a rival. He'll never be loved in Wisconsin again. He destroyed his legacy.

  • @jimmylegs06 Yes and no... Yes it was fun as hell, but no because they came up short.

But I don't think Wisconsin will never forgive him. Give them a couple of years, especially if Rodgers keeps developing like he is. They'll be fine.

  • @jbsmg Sure he left his heart out on the field. Unfortunately he left his brain in his duffle bag.

  • @jimmylegs06 Unfortunately I remember these years too. Three 9-7 seasons. It took too long for him to get his head out of his behind, and by the time he did so much of the window had closed that 1997 was already a shadow of 1996 - the team aged so fast. I have little doubt that Brunell would have gotten one SB between 1995 and 1997, maybe more.

    As for Favre

    08-10 + 92-94 + 01-04 + waffling < 95-97

It's that simple. Not enough THERE there to justify his childish exit.

  • @toolkien Hope you're having fun eating chicken wings in your mom's basement.

  • @toolkien Look at the talent Favre was surrounded by compared to other superbowl teams....the only true great receiver Favre ever had in his prime was Sterling Sharpe and that time was cut short. Put Brady, Manning, whoever on the teams Favre had to deal with and give Favre the luxury of having Harrison/Wayne or the stacked rosters Brady has had. (continued)

  • @toolkien Favre would have 4-5 rings at least if he had what Brady/Mnning had (have) around them...ironically the only year the defense for Green Bay wasn't an embarassment they win the superbowl, and then a classic Antonio Freeman drop lost the Denver game.

  • @thomasjohnson If Favre didn't have other surrounding talent, then how did the Packers manage to be the best regular season team from 1992-2007, point differential and winning percentage. If it's just the QB, then ARCHIE Manning would have won SB's. Favre had more than enough talent to win more, or at least get out of wild card rounds, but he didn't. Which NFC team had the best record from 1998-2006? Who had the best record against their own conference's playoff caliber teams? The Packers.

  • Part 2. Favre had Ahman Green from 2000-2006, who happens to be the Packer all time leading rusher. He had Donald Driver for 9 years who leads the Packers in receptions and now is 43 yards short of yardage too. The Packers had superior offensive lines in the early 2000's. And yet Favre had 121 QB rating in 4 playoff wins and a 64 QB rating in 6 losses in the 2000's. The Packers post Holmgren were still one of the better teams in the NFL and were one of the best teams in the NFC.

  • @toolkien Ahman Gree?!?! Donald Driver?!?!?! Thanks for making my dad laugh with that horrible argument....and he disagrees with me. Favre made Driver and made it easy for Ahman since the defenses were so worried about the pass....that slouch fumbled too much. Wow that last sentence of your post couldn't be more wrong, unless you are giving the credit to Favre. Packers defenses were awful those years, coaching was also awful.

  • @thomasjohnson Sure. The best team in the NFL for 16 years was AWFUL except for Brett Favre and his 86 QB rating. Sure. A guy become the all time leading rusher of a franchise that's been around 90 years with a QB with an 82.8 rating IN A WEST COAST OFFENSE over that time, and the D's were afraid of the QB? Sure. Favre had a LOT of talent around him, and when Favre played in the system, good to great things happened. When Favre didn't, and played like shit and tossed INT's, bad things happened.

  • @toolkien Just keep enjoying Favre's greatness on youtube...

  • @thomasjohnson And Green is slouch for fumbling too much? He may have, but Favre threw WAAAAYYYY too many picks for a WCO. It is a testament to the talent of the TEAM to overcome his mediocrity as far as INT's. The WCO is predicated on BEING SAFE WITH THE BALL. Favre's 3.4 INT rate was way too high for the tradeoffs of the WCO. But the team perservered, but Favre's INT's would explode beyond tolerance in the playoffs, hence Favre's 64 QB rating in playoff exit games. Too many picks.

  • @toolkien Put Manning, Brady, etc. on the 1996 Packers and they don't do anything...end of story.

  • @thomasjohnson don't listen to that toolkien guy... he's a dumbass, he has tool directly in his name which should tell you something about him.. i've argued with him before about this and he is just a moron. Favre is the best QB to play the game, you know it, I know it, he knows it, the world knows it. He just doesn't want to admit it.

  • @toolkien 4th and 26 buddy. You gonna try blaming that one Favre too?

  • I have a good question why until 1994 did the Packers split their home games from Lambeau to County Stadium?

  • @redmustang03 In the 1930s Milwaukee helped the Packers exist because financially they were struggling. Since then Milwaukee was awarded Packer games. When there was a 16 game schedule 5 were at Lambeau and 3 were at County Stadium, including usually a preseason game. Even now with all the games at Lambuea the old Milwaukee ticket holders are awarded 2 Packer games a year. Making at a disaster driving back down from GreenBay with everyone going to Milwaukee.

  • @jimmylegs06, Thank you I did not know that.

  • What a great game and a great conclusion to County Stadium's hosting of Packer home games. I'll never forget this one.

  • A young Joe Buck with the call that day on Fox.

  • whats sad about this is i was in 6th grade when this happened, and before this drive started i told my dad the packers were gonna lose the game, i wnet to my room and missed the whole thing.

  • @Injodave1213. I was in 6th grade as well that yr. Sunday, DEC 18, 1994.
