  • This is actually an amazing recipe, just made it.... The better quality the tomatoes the better the end result...do not tweak the recipe too much....only difference I did is put curry leaves in with the onions and peppers....and added basil at the end.

  • @simplyalif Thank you very much. This is how the food is what it is today. People many times take a basic food recipe and adjust it to their personal taste. Well done. Enjoy!

  • i dont know much about cooking but can anybody pls tell me how do i cook this recipe with just one 1 egg...i mean, just for a single person, that's all...and can i use sunflower oil instead of olive oil here??

  • @Uchchash Yes you can. Use smaller pan or pot and reduce the tomatoes. I would like to mention that this is one egg dish which you can reheat the left over for supper or next day lunch. Enjoy!

    Mariette

  • We call this "Menemen" in Turkey. In my country ; Shakshuka is however different from what you have cooked.

Shakshuka is an appetizer,it contains the ingredients you have used in addition with eggplants. And eggplant is the main ingredient in Shakshuka. It's being cooked in the way you do,but after cooking it you cool it,and you serve it as a cold appetizer with soem traditional alcohol.

It's very interesting different cultures give the same names to different dishes :)

  • @offfffffaq , you are right. Special occasion we also cook eggs the same way in Pakistan and Afghanistan as well. I mean to say it is very close, only difference is that we don't break egg yoke and keep it less watery. But this is great video and explained really well.

  • Looks yummy! Another great meal video! Thanks!

  • @tiggers84 You're welcome! I am glad you liked the shakshuka recipe. We do it all the time. Specially when my grand children stay overnight. They love to have shakshuka for breakfast. Give it a try and let me know about the result. I would love to hear from you.

  • As I was going to ask about the red sauce (condiment section) at Dan Panorama, they had during the night switched to Passover!! So, I couldn't show them what I meant and they didn't understand -- and my bus was waiting.

I put the red sauce on my eggs -- spicy and very delicious addition.

Shakshuka does sound delicious - might give it a try!

  • @Marny5580 Thanks for trying. I hope you didn't miss your bus!

    Mariette

  • oooh please open it up in kaneohe Oahu side of honolulu...not waikiki...i dont go there cos its very expensive!!

  • This would be soo good with some ham and potatoes

  • @RasheemH Hi there, sure you can put ham and potatoes, but I wouldn't put to much potatoes because it has lots of starch in it. Its not typically used in this dish, but of course you can experiment and try. Thanks for your message - Mariette

  • @HowToExpo yeah i did it for my girlfriend and she really like it, it was really good, easy to do and good taste :) thansk for share ur recipe :) au revoir

  • hi ..we call this tomato egg curry and do not break the egg..if we break the egg we call it burji and there are 2 variations in burji again one without tomatoes is very famous and delicious with rice,tortillas..coming back to Shakshuka(Egg tomato curry) we add ginger garlic paste to the onions and also add green chillies while frying the onions n pepper becomes optional.. which makes it more interesting n flavorable ..Very nice dish

  • this is funny! cause in the turkish kitchen there is also a dish named shakshuka, but it is with fried eggplants instead of eggs :) this version btw is called "menemen" in turkish :) love the dish anyway :)

  • @julide88 Yes it's funny how the same name is given to two different dishes. I would really love to hear about theTurkish version of shakshuka. Thank you for your input we appreciate it.

    Mariette

  • could you substitute the eggs for something else? Im not a fan of eggs cooked like this...

  • @DesignerzOnly you can cook the eggs in a separate pan and add to the tomato sauce just before you serve it if you like. or you can ommit the egg and use browned minsed meat instead. but then the recipe is not a shakshuka anylonger. I hope I helped.

    Mariette.

  • My mum cooks it in a different way. She fries the eggs first then cook the tomatoes and finally, place it altogether. It is different based on place they are from?

  • @angelina1800Although the basics stay the same It can sometimes be prepared differently from one place to the other. Frying the eggs first and adding to the tomato sauce later is another way of preparing the healthy and satisfying shakshuka dish. Thanks for your input we appreciate it.

    Mariette.

  • Should i set the heat to high or medium?

  • @Teddybear419 I cook the onions and peppers on high until soft and the onions start changing color. but once you add the tomato you can lower the heat to medium if you wish. No rules. the main thing is for the tomatoes to cook well and some of the liquid to evaporate so that at the end of the cooking, the shakshuka is not too watery.

    Mariette

  • @HowToExpo kk ty :) imma have to make this with some french bread lolz :P sounds super duper delicious haha xD

  • My dad is from Yemen and I grew up eating this. He always broke the egg in a bowl first and whisked them together, but I'm sure it's different in many places.

    Looks great. :)

  • @lunastar1979 Some people like chunks of eggs to be visible in shakshuka some whisk the egg for a smoother texture, but the taste remains the same. Delicious. Thanks for your nice comment.

  • @zay712 I am glad you liked it.

  • I have been studying abroad for 9 months now, and that is the most recipe I miss from my mom's hands

  • @MrThinkagain1 If you have a casserole and a stove top, try to cook it. It's very easy recipe to prepare. If you're on your own just reduce the quantity of the rice and water to half, or cook it more and refrigerate it.

  • Comment removed

  • I haven't had this amazing dish in years. Im looking forward to make it tomorrow yumm and thank you for the recipe

  • @lopolsa You're welcome. I hope you liked it.

  • When I make this dish, I do mine a little differrent. I will chop up the onion, some green pepper, and the tomato...but I don;t like runny tomatoes so I cut them in quarters and cut the seeds out of it then I chop up the tomato. I use olive oil too, and I use chopped garlic (I have a jar of chopped garlic in olive oil). Then I just cook the vegetables until they are done and then I add the eggs but I scramble mine. I never had this dish any other way. :-)

  • @LilMizzMunchkin83 Interesting. I might try it one of these days. Something caught my attention in your comment. Allow me to talk about it. It's you having garlic stored in oil. It's okay if you use it in one week time. But keeping garlic in any oil for more than a week, it's not recommended. because garlic will turn into toxic. I have written an article about this subject which will be published in the near future on howtoexpo I will let you know.

  • love it.

I'm from SA & actually Shakshoka is just made from tomato and egg.

but i think u have put so much ingredients.

Q: why don't u try to cook dishes from the arabian gulf? i believe u can do it :-)

    thanx

  • @no0o0o0ry Thank you for your message and for the compliment. We would love to make some Arabian gulf recipes. We are always looking for new recipes to try, and if you have any suggestions that would be great! We also make the Shakshuka just like you mentioned, with just two ingredients, tomatoes and eggs, and oh black pepper. Let us know. -Mariette

  • I'm not a huge fan of vegetarian food, but damn i'm going to cook that tomorrow.

  • @Kyle0ng How did you like it. i hope you tried it..

  • @HowToExpo First time I made it, i made a smaller amount, but added two eggs. This soaked up all the water and ruined the food. I made it again, with only one egg, and it was perfect =]. Very tasty.

  • @Kyle0ng I am glad you liked it.

  • Hi Ma'am thank you for this im going to give this a try!
