  • One of my first ever musical memories this one, my Dad had the vinyl and apparently I couldn't get enough, he had to teach me how to use the stereo cause I kept trying to make it go over & over again. Three year old aren't too gentle with the equipment!

  • In 1942 British soldier Jack Celliers comes to a japanese prison camp. The camp is run by Yonoi, who has a firm belief in discipline, honour and glory. In his view, the allied prisoners are cowards when they chose to surrender instead of commiting suicide. One of the prisoners, interpreter John Lawrence, tries to explain the japanese way of thinking, but is considered a traitor

  • Pauline Kael described the film as a Fire Island version of the Bridge On The River Kwai. I'm inclined to agree. Love the music.

  • can somebody tell me what the film is about? i wld lto see it but wanna know first if it even interests me

  • Most incredible movie and sountrack I have even seen and heard. Just brilliant.

  • this is probably the most beautiful tune I have ever heard.

  • @AonaranMan first movie I took my GF (now wife) to see in 84(?). set in a japanses POW camp. the lead character arrives (david bowie) and immediately unsettles the guards by his idiosyncratic behaviour, leading them to believe he holds supernatural powers. it's been argued that better WW2 movies have been made but none better for the almost surreal tension and atmosphere. the film score won 'best' at the brits (I think).

adapted from a book by laurens van der post.

  • I just got chills all up my arms.

  • My uncle Leslie was killed in Burma in December 1941 thanks to the Japanese and although I never met him this haunting music always makes me think of what he ( and thousands like him) went through. God bless them all.

  • my Wonderful Uncle Moses...spent 4 years detained in the pleasure of the Emperor, much to all our displeasure{He never spoke of this period },came back to Tandragee 1 year after 45 ,[sanitorium ,U,S,special visitor] all 60 kgs of dignity !!..yet this film had the skill of portraying the atrocities done yet the Monsters ,after all were Human and did have feelings ,enlightening through hate, transformed into compassion.masterful cinema!

  • one of the most moving tunes ive ever heard

  • I watch the film first time in 1992. After the years, it became one of my favourite movies, because I was soldier 1 year of my life and undestand good the feelings of all characters... how did it was in real life there at Java.

  • a luvly tune...classic.....
