  • i did not understand what mrs freudstein said to the children at the end.

  • I love the soundtrack.

  • Excelent movie, my brother rented the video tape when we were only kids, but i didn't forgot , thanks!

  • so did the boy die or did the ghost girl help him escape?? i'm lost...

  • @coolkidcash15 Apparently according to Fulci, the kid was in the care of the ghosts now, to walk the forests of sadness. Not dead or alive...really depressing though, haha. Even he admitted that it was a depressing ending.

  • bellísima Movie, un tesoro.

  • i ist saw this when i was about 10 or 11 it allways stuck with me the only flaw with this film imo is the english dubing id love to view this film in italian

  • Fulci at 5 yrs? Bravo!

  • I recently saw Ghosthouse by Umberto Lenzi which is the only other film to feature the same house in HBTC but Lenzi actually films inside of the real house compared to Fulci who filmed the interiors in a studio and only used the house for exteriors.

  • My all-time favorite soundtrack, with "Suspiria" being a close second. I visited the house too; I have pics of it on my Myspace page.

  • The end scene of the film is beautyfull, but the film is not

  • The music is best, but the film is grotty

  • like stephphoenix, me too have seen it as a child at a friend's home, and I felt this movie was so evil i couldn't compare it with nothing else i considered "horror" at my age (11-12 yrs); i refreshed my horror movie experience tens years later, searching for fulci movies, reminiscent of this particular one.

  • so, did the blond boy die or did the ghost girl save him?

  • Music is great.

  • Spoilers*******************I think all the characters were basically one person metaphorically. The adult characters were killed off representing some kind of childhood trauma that keeps people in a childlike state. Psychology(Freud-stein) and religion(Cross) represent false hope and seal off the person from their 'basement' their repressed memories and dark side. The ending isnt too pleasant. The people are led around in a childlike state by a controlling figure. Thats my take.

  • Man Fulci was a master at bleak endings. I still don't fully understand this one.

  • @M8DMAN i think (only a suggestion) the final scene represents the death of the blonde child, in a similar way movies like "the others" or "the orphanage" have borrowed from it, like in the moment of dying we see the spirit of the child being transported in a ghost-like dimention.

  • best score

  • The music in this is so hilarious, such a bad film for modern day standards but the gore is incredible!!

  • @cmrules Yeah go watch your "modern" shit and we'll stick to the classics.

  • "This was my first horror movie. My dad had this on the same tape as Looney Tunes which he had recorded for me. "

    hahaha.. cool^^

  • The house in Massachusetts was used only for outside shots. The inside was filmed in Rome, Italy.

I love this movie and still want to go see this house.

  • I just visited the house Tuesday. The house is in Scituate, Massachusetts. Incredible!

  • most annoying kid in the history of film.

  • to be honest fulci could've done without the gore, the film's just that great. i dont have a problem with gore just the more was fantastic without the use of it. i forgot the gory material was there half the time.

  • I've been saying the same thing for a very long time. Though his movies would sadly not be as popular if it wasn't for their notorities..

  • @DetrimentDaSuffering He needed the gore to get in magazines like Fangoria, also it raised box office hearing about someones eye getting poked out, etc. I doubt these movies would have gotten made without the gore.

  • hace q pensar el papel de la niñera, asi como q al padre se le confunda con otra persona...pero con quien?

  • la peli es buena, pero es como si le faltaran trozos..q queria transmitirnos fulci con la niñera?

  • lovely sooong!!!! love it!

  • "No one will ever know if monsters are children or children are monsters."

Whats that supposed to mean? That I`m a monster???

  • u didnt know? just kiddin :D

  • The cheek! Lol.

  • i have been in the actual house!! its in scituate, massachusettes (u.s.a.) my friend used to live in it for years (in the upstairs part) and believe me that whole area is creepy as hell!! i used to walk home through the woods at night ( there is no cemetary though )

  • You mean this movie was shot on location in an actual house and that the house really exists? That's incredible!

  • You ever checked the basement? xD

  • @StefPhoenixOoORising oh my god he must be freaked out by dr. Freudstein

  • You're welcome.

That is why I like this film so much. The way Fulci uses children to represent innocense.

  • Your right, this movie is really bizzare but I like that and that's for some reason what I appreciate most about fulci films and this one is my favirot

  • so sad theme...and these cry...

  • That last shot is beautiful.

  • I visited the house a few months ago. It's in Scituate, Massachusetts. Breathtaking sight.

  • I thought Mrs. Freudstein was May's mother, as old as she was when she died. I know that they were both ghosts.

  • I could never figure out what happened to Bob at the end, though. Did Dr. Freudstein kill him, or did May save him? Is Bob a ghost like they are?

  • i hav the same problem

hav sen the movie like 10 times

and a never understand whats hapend to him

  • actually May and her grandmother Miss Freudstein are dead and ghosts, May helped Bob to escape but now he is prisonner of their dimension. That's why Miss Freudstein told May "Don't forget your good manner, now that Bob will stay you will have to teach him the freudstein manners" Bob belongs to the family now. I read once that in all Fulci's movies every time you see children they are ghosts. Cheers !!

  • I watched this movie when I was 8-year-old then I got a terrible nightmare after watching that the scene where Daniela Doria was stabbed through her head with the butcher knife by Dr. Freudstein.

  • I watched it when I was five! :P

  • FANTASTIC MOVIE
