I was a child of the 70s, 80s and pre teen in the early 90s. I crossed over :) I miss the cartoons of all decades. G-Force, Rude Dog & the Dweebs, Gummi Bears, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventures, Star Blazers, 2 Stupid Dogs, Johnny Bravo, Transformers, GUMBY, Danger Mouse, Banana Man, VISIONARIES, Johnny Quest. Blockbuster Online and Netflix R getting more retro toons. I wish people would write both companies and request more. Blockbuster online has an easy customer service contact form.
This is when it was great to be a kid! Watching cartoons in the 70's and 80's was awesome. First you get up in the morning, get yourself a big bowl of fruit loops, watch cartoons all morning while playing with your star wars figures or mego dolls, finish up with the ABC Weekend Special, then go outside and play until it got dark. I feel sorry for the kids nowadays...the rely too much on electronics to keep them occupied. Video games, ipods, etc. You can't even get them outside.
when did the CBS Storybreak for children begin? It closed out the Saturday's morning blockup for youngsters on Sat. morns in the 11:30 CT time slot. I believe cartoons ran from 6 or 7 til noonish. This was during 86-90 periosd for sure
@shelbb123 - i agree. i was 13 when this came out, and i was growing out of Sat. morning cartoons, JUST IN TIME for it all to start slipping into uncreative, lame-ass oblivion.
@67nairb Because of too much competition from cable TV and the other networks. Infomercials were found to be more profitable. Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network outshine the broadcast networks in Saturday morning ratings, so the networks have given up, hence more news programs and infomercials. The cartoons that do air on the major nets are outsourced to other programmers, who buy the time from the networks.
The Childrens Film Festival, renamed I think International film festival, was hosted by Kukla Fran and Ollie. It was a major influence for mst3k years later.
Yes, but it's not a big deal anymore. ABC has their ABC Kids block from 9am-1pm, but most of that is simply reruns of Disney Channel series. CBS carries a block called Kewlopolis from 9am-noon, mostly aimed at girls. NBC carries programming from Qubo, which has some interesting shows. Fox gave up on kids programming altogether this past November and now airs infomercials. CW carries the most hours of programs, from 7am-noon from the 4Kids service, with mostly anime-inspired shows.
Ah yes, Saturday morning cartoons. What memories!

I watched lots of Saturday morning TV as a kid, but I swear I don't remember there being a Ghostbusters show before the movie came out.

If I'm not mistaken, that's Denny Dark, otherwise known as Superman from the Superfriends doing the narration.

DANNY Dark, and it's kind of unusual since he mostly worked for NBC.

This might be a silly question but do they still even do Saturday mornings for kids anymore? Not like the ones we had anyway
