  • John Lennon said the album might be Beatles 1980 or something, Lol. That's weird. Maybe we're in a parallel universe in which it appears that this is all over, lol. Hare Krishna.

  • They didn't do "twist and shout" first. They did "Help" first. I was there. and yes it was August 19th, 1965.

  • I'm in love with her and I feel fine!!!!

  • John was so freakin' funny..."Beatles 5 or 65 or 98 or something" LOL!

  • im a 17 year old houstonian and i feel nostalgic when i hear this lol the beatles in houston man i wish i was in the 60s

  • I was there in the Sam Houston Coliseum--a 3rd grader--my mom somehow realized that this was historic and took us!

  • the sound like a radio..it is from a radio???

  • Thanx 4 posting :))

  • @jitterbug121 No problem!

  • I love the versions where they shredded their voices.

  • I was 11 yrs old my big think was seeing the a hard days nite i think was a few yrs early

  • I was 14 when I saw them, August 19, 1965 at Sam Houston Coliseum 3:30 show. Took the Beatles Caravan bus from Dallas sponsored by KLIF radio. Total price $17.95. Opening acts were Cannibal and the Headhunters, Sounds Incorporated and Brenda Holloway. The Beatles sang 12 songs and these recordings are exactly as it happened. Does anyone have a video of this concert?

  • The Beatles played in the Coliseum which was next to the Music Hall in downtown Houston. The Hobby Center now stands there. The tickets were a big yellow postcard size ticket and were 6.00 a piece. We stood in line which was wrapped around the Coliseum. We finally got tickets to the evening performance. They stayed in the Sheraton Lincoln hotel downtown and had to go to their rooms in the freight elevator.

  • IslandWx - You're correct about the Houston concert. I must have gone to the first concert because the opening act was King Curtis who played interminably, with the crowd growing very impatient. When the roadies changed the music equipment, they removed the bass drum cover and revealed the Beatles logo. The crowd went out of control. I (16 yrs) sat in the floor area on a folding metal chair. I am 61 now and I feel fortunate to have lived the era and experienced real music artistry.

  • Gracias mi amigo por compartirlo, nunca me imagine que escucharia este tipo de audios, me cae que esta de poca, nuevamente gracias!!

  • There will never be another group like the Beatles.

  • does any body can tell what part of town was this concert at ? or the name of the place,

  • It was in the Astrodome which was only made a couple months prior to the concert.

  • Sorry, but that's incorrect. The Beatles only concert ever in Houston took place on August 19, 1965 (not the 14th as it says on the clip). However, it was NOT at the Astrodome. Instead, the concert took place at the Sam Houston Coliseum which was located at 801 Bagby St in downtown Houston. The coliseum was demolished in 1998 and is now the present day site of the Hobby Center.

  • @juannelo13 it was at the former Houston Colisseum.

  • As someone else stated I remember having to yell just to hear them.

  • My gosh. This was the first concert I ever went to. My mother took myself, my sister and brother. There were 2 shows I believe the first one was at 3:00 pm and the other was at 5:00pm. We stood in line from 10 am for the 5pm show. It was hot and humid that day. There was no reserved seating and remember running to get the best seats we could. My mother was a secret beatles fan and still loves paul to this day. The opening act was a group called the Interns. Then the Animals.

  • Did you get good seats?

  • Is there any footage of this concert? It would be nice if there was. Does anyone know? Thanks for uploading this

  • You cut out the intro

George saying "hi y'all" to the crowd

Nice tuning up by George and John.

  • @powergirl901 That was Paul saying "Howdy y'all"!!

  • This is cool I live in Houston! There are a few Beatles cover bands that play here and they draw a big crowd today. People will always love them.

  • To listen to The Beatles' vocals sounding like this is an absolute trip. How great were they that they would still sing & harmonize so beautifully when it's obvious they were almost running on empty. They probably called on their old reserves from the Hamburg shows & said this is nothing compared to those marathon gigs. Just great to get a short window into a time(this audio) when you can actually hear John & Paul sounding unlike their usual selves. Awesome & priceless post. Thanks beatle608

  • I really do wish they were still touring. I'd go see them in a heartbeat.

  • The date of the concert (shown at the beginning) is incorrect. I should be 08-19-1965. I know because I was there!!

  • Lucky!

  • @miraque1 Amazing .four years later Blind Faith would come to town, same venue on this very date in August,An added bit of trivia - it was Ginger Baker's Birthday. And I missed out on both historic occasions !

  • They had to scream to hear themselves.

  • oh god.. john sounds like he's crying... poor guys really got marketed back then..

  • I was NOT only there but there are some excellent photos of the shows and press conference at the Houston Library - Archives and I am in several photos! ROFL!!!

  • HOW DID THIS NOT GET FILMED!!!!!

  • everyone left their movie cameras at home

  • Their voices are pretty hurt on this gig, but this is just the afternoon concert. I got the evening concert, you can imagine how it sounds, it's pretty funny!

  • my ticket was aug, 19, 1965 Houston 8 pm Number 411

  • Oh my God! I can't believe this is here! Thank you so much for this wonderful memory! I was one of the screaming 13 year olds in the audience. It was a day I'll never forget. I still have my ticket stub and official program, almost 43 years later. Where did this come from?

  • 19 Aug 1965 afternoon and evening shows were both recorded by the local radio station cant remember their name I have both full concerts

  • Yeah, I do too, I just didn't put the other show on, I'm sorry.

  • Wasn't there another AM radio station as well-was it KXYZ w/Paul Berlin or did that come later? Anyway...great posts! Thanks!

  • It was KILT, which is now a c/w station here in Houston. They were introduced by 'The Weird Beard', one of their DJ's at the time.

  • oh my God!!! you were there!! well tell ur grandchildrens that u were in the concert of the best band ever. i wish i was there and meet them.

  • I always that John Lennon had the best rock and roll voice in the world.

  • FINE stuff you got here!

  • Not bad quality. Does anyone know where the 1963 perfect live rehearsal recording from a town in Southern England is? It has been found. Put it up!

  • I'm surprised they decided to do Twist and Shout first because it really strains Johns voice, would have figured they'd have done it last-either way still the best band ever thanks for uploading

  • Ya, this concert defentitly was not their best.

  • Given the fact that this was their 4th performance in 5 days (after playing the previous night in Atlanta, and in Toronto the night before that), it is very easy to understand how their voices are worn out in this concert.

  • That damned Brian Epstein worked the boys like slaves.

No wonder they quit touring in '66.

  • yeahh :] i wish they were still around

  • They always did it first, that is when they stopped doing it last. I think John could handle it easily. except when they did the album, they had literally just finished recording a whole album, so his voice was pretty pushed there...

  • Yeah I heard John had a glass of milk in the studio while they were recording twist and shout and he shredded his voice so bad there was blood in the milk after he took a sip. Dunno if it's true I read it somewhere

  • @tomtom255 they always did twist and shout first

  • @tomtom255 actualy in the early 60's The Beatles most of the time opened up a concert with Twist & Shout ;]

  • @tomtom255 They opened with Twist and Shout most of the time.

  • True. They seem to breeze through it.

  • @tomtom255 Up until late 1964 they opened up with I saw her standing there and closed with twist and shout, on their second american tour they started opening with twist and shout and continued until idk when

  • grovy duded
