  • My father had this on a 78rpm and I used to play it again and again.

  • @aerofredywr You can play this one all you want and won't wear it out. Enjoy!

  • @aerofredywr

So did my dad! I loved his 78 collection but I wasn't always kind to it .. left a lot of scratches.

  • Wonderful Posting! What a wonderfully rich voice. It just seems to envelope your whole being. Thank you for another quality posting.

  • @bigcuy41 My pleasure and this is my favorite rendition of this song.

  • Thanks for posting this. Amazing voice. Robeson is under-appreciated today.

  • @morrieh You are very welcome and thanks for watching!

  • I am in Saint Louis as I listen to this version of the St. Louis Blues! Thanks again for sharing!

  • @Shelton1967 Business or pleasure? Glad you liked it!

  • @pax41

I work in StL and rent a plce here durnig my work week. I own a little farmhouse in Southern IL.

  • @Shelton1967 That would explain why I noticed a different location on your channel page.

  • This has a distinct "Recorded In the UK" sound.

  • @JCJasion How can you tell? It does say recorded in Europe. I wish that the horns and woodwinds came out better but this was the best I could do. The vocal and strings come out good.

  • @JCJasion - The British studio recordings have a certain balance one can identify after repeated listenings. Also, wasn't Robeson doing some film projects in England at the time?

  • @JCJasion I am not sure about the film projects. Thanks for the input on the recordings.

  • It is most unusual for my wife to comment on whatever I am listening to, but she has just remarked to me: "That's the voice I like". I can only say that I agree with her. This is beautiful, and I thank you for sharing. Much appreciated.

  • @Corrie121 Your wife has very fine taste!

  • Great. My, that's easily produced, vocally! Not a hint of strain. In fact, the ease of the singing definitely contributes to making this song work for him, because when he cuts loose it becomes very operatic very quickly.

  • @EdmundStAustell He had a beautiful voice indeed. Thanks for watching!

  • Lovely version!

  • I love Robeson's singing of this tune, and most of his singing in general. Thanks for sharing it!

  • @meltzerboy Always my pleasure to share. I believe this used to be on YT but may have been on one of those channels that shut down. I was debating posting this for that reason.

  • @meltzerboy

Very, very good... thanks to Bob for posting, and to Nate for sharing.

  • @meltzerboy

Any woman who would leave a man with a voice like Robeson's is borderline crazy. :D His performance of this song is entrancing and magnetic; I can't stop listening to it. Thanks, meltzerboy, for sharing, and thank you, pax41, for taking the risk to post this amazing rendition for us!

  • It's amazing how little he has to do to hit the bullseye. Incredible.

  • @Bivolari One of the most gifted individuals of the 20th century. He was a renaissance man!
