  • Sorry to bother you again! Also where do you get that bone folder from? And finally the model you show in the star puff video (the brown one with lots of star puffs), is that a 32 grid, just done the same way as the puffs in this video?

  • You have said in your tessellation videos that you think using transparent paper looks nice. Where could I get coloured transparent paper?

  • I love your voice and your accent. It's just lovely.

  • how on the 3rd star you can get that 3rd twist There is like 2 overlaps?????????

  • I made the grey one, turns out you needed a 32 division grid :) hope that helps

  • @SonicJeffanoid Definitely helped man, thanks. I've got one started but I think I messed it up. I started at center and I counted triangles to make sure I had center and drew it out but I think it's a few off. I'm going to keep going and finish to see what happens, I think I'll get it right next time. How did you start yours?

  • @iiiTsJunKie Cant remember that, i think i started it like this video getting the 3 middle ones then i worked my way out : ) Hope it helps

  • it is so hard

  • easy way is to find a hexagon on gogle print find if it is a good size then start creasing to make the star puff this is my way aka. The Lazy Way lol

  • omg how do you had nervs to mark all that creses

  • is your bone folder real bone or plastic?????????

  • 00:06

    pufffffff XD

  • your english is so polite and amazing to hear! I just had to say this.

  • i mad it, then made a varient from another piece of paper and it turn out very stunnig (: thank you for the tutorial (:

  • i just made it! i really like it i also like the hexagonal bridges on the back

  • sara i dont want to get in ur buissness but what kind of accent is that……but other than that its great

  • @marcos10781 I'm German.

  • @AdamsSara I love it!

  • @marcos10781 i thought he was british

  • hi Sara

this is really nice i love this <3

  • Yes can you make a tutorial on the grey one at 0:28

  • @bioshock209 Simply fill the whole hexagon with triangle twists. So instead of stopping with the triangle twists where I do in the video, continue filling the whole sheet in the same fashion. Then pop up the star puffs as before - just that you'll have more of them to puff up. :)

  • @AdamsSara but where would i start the triangle twists or does it matter

  • @AdamsSara can you make a video please i really want to make that on but i could never figure it out

  • @AdamsSara can you make a video please i really want to make that on but i could never figure it out i mean the gry one at 24:00

  • My friend is going to enterior design university and well...she needs some geometric designs to figure out how to make modular furniture.Any sugestions?

  • @mobradovic00 Ah, I guess if your friend wants do do that she needs to do her research. :) Tessellations are a good point to start at, and there's been some interesting things done. I'm sure a thorough web search will give you more results than you may have expected.

  • starting from 15 mins into the video, can u post a video on the triangle twist of the second hexagon..there are so many overlapping layers of paper and i dont no which layers to use..i have attempted to make this couple times and i always fail at that part because i dont which layers to use for the triangle twist of the second hexagon..

  • Hoi, Sara thanks a lot i have made them, i love your tesselations and your instructions. I start with origami for 3 months and i'm verslaaft "sorry for that i'm from the netherlands and english is not so good as yours, but a lot of thanks and a hope you make more tesselations , I buy the boek of eric that you recommandet and it is beatyful. Corry

  • this is cool and you're really good, but i find it hilarious that you would spend 24 minutes of your life folding a piece of paper into stars

  • @jok2440 Paper folding is an art, just like painting or drawing or singing!

  • Comment removed

  • that was nice) very easy to follow) if i want to make a tessellation which consists of stars all over it (like the grey one you show), where i should start first triangle twist? same place as in this video? and i divided the paper into 32 parts.

  • @Prrexx Yes, that's all correct. Start with a 32 division grid, then place your first triangle twist as in this video. Proceed with the rest of the sheet. Then open a star puff in the center of the model (unlike in this video). Once you have the central one you should be able to easily place all the other ones to fill the whole space. Hope this clarifies it. :)

  • @AdamsSara thank you!)

  • man, i love all of your origami, i always take the finished product and put it in a bag, and vacuum out the air to keep it good forever :)

  • can you make a video on how to mke variations of course not only this model but generaly how to vary it?before you even read this comment

    thank you

  • @mobradovic00 The easiest way to vary a tessellation is to -- make a mistake, and then see where it takes you. Seriously. :)

  • Yeeeey, I managed to finish the star puff tessellation on my first try...I had a bit of a difficulty at the last hexagon but all in all it turned out quite ok :D Thank you for your video :)

  • @olguta13 Congrats. :)

  • Do you recommand this for beginners?

  • @levinchau123 None of the tessellations are the best way to start origami. This isn't the easiest tessellation out there, either, but it's not all that difficult, either. I'd say you should feel somewhat confident with folding paper already before you attempt this model.

  • AdamsSara, I am having trouble with the last pleat releasing of the 2nd section, can you help me please?

  • @MrKoolTrix Can you send me a picture? sara(at)happyfolding(dot)com

  • @AdamsSara What I mean is which pleat should I release, but the first pleat or the 2nd pleat I will release? Please help!

  • yea i did it after trying some of the tessalation basic vids...thanks its cool to make, tho they a lot of folds to do....easy vid to follow ,so thanks....cam

  • Comment removed

  • i do quite a bit of origami and i would like to get into tessalations but i think this gona be a bit hard for a begginer ,have you anything easyer for me to start on ..?.. i did watch all this vid and they wasent anything realy hard to do but i could do with some practice b4 i jus jump in on this,so any idears would be good...thanks ...cam..8 )

  • @jester2281 Actually, this is a fairly simple origami tessellation to make. Do give it a go!

  • thanks!!!!!!!!!

  • where do i put the first triangle twist on a square?(i want to try a variation on the square)

  • @musicmixer112 If you have problems with locating the center, try folding in the extra paper of the square to get a hexagon. Then use this video as a reference to where to place the first triangle twist. Hope this helps!

  • I DIDN'T BLINK FOR 25 MINUTES. OUCH

  • This video is great.......you show us how to do it very well keep it up....your voice is also soothing...great memory and skill :)

  • @shakershawcross Thanks. :)

  • @AdamsSara Your very welcome. :)

  • AWESOMEEE!!!

  • Another amazing video. Thanks!

  • @quiltsewer Great to hear this. :)

  • Who would dislike this? You're amazing, Sara, and you always explain everything perfectly. This is a beautiful model and I plan to make many more! Thank you!

  • @maimay234 Thank you. :)

  • okay Thank you very much for you`re answere.

You do very, very good videos. You should have an own TV-channel

    AdamSara TV nice

  • you are very cool but why jo dont do videos on german. I undersatand everything in youre videos but i know that youre german or not?

  • @SteffenPille1993 Well, more people understand English than do German. I want to make these videos accessible to as many people as possible, so I've decided to make them in English. For some videos, I've added captions and added German subtitles. Maybe this is a good compromise.

  • you are so awesome! You've totally inspired me to try this!

Thank you for your videos; they're very informative and easy to follow :D

  • @logarixe Thanks, good to hear this! :)

  • wtf im triping when she folded it bck thers red

  • @TheLChinese The model will only look symmetrical again once you've completed the third star. In-between the model will look a bit different. Depending on the order you did the triangle twists in, you may have to open multiple pleats when forming the last triangle twists of the final star puff. If it helps, you can mark the centers of the stars (as I did in red) to ensure you place them correctly - at least the first time.

  • @TheLChinese Sorry, I do not plan to reupload the video with all triangle twists shown. Where do you get confused?

  • this is a very nice model

i didnt make my 1st one very well tho...

but if u know how to make it with th concept its very simple!

  • Oh this model is really very, very nice:)Ilove it! I was stuck at the part which should come after 15:38 , (so the part with the last hexagon out of the triangels) for nearly an hour, but finally I finished the model and I'm quite happy, that you post such nice origami instructions:)really good work!

  • after u fold, there are dotted lines, is that a comp effect or sumething? nice guidte btw

  • @vietsoldier01 It's video editing. The lines are actually drawn on the paper, but I cut the sequences where I'm drawing in the lines.

  • this is too easy for me :D

  • 24 mins wow this must be hard =)

  • could someone please help me? i dont get 6: 18.... i have no idea what you are talking about....

  • O_O

    XD

    :)

    :p

and whatever other signs that represent happieness

i cant thank you enough for showing us this model i was able to figure it out after countless (at least 20) different sheets of paper until i finally got it right and it looks amazing

    thank you again SO MUCH

  • What type of origami paper do you use on this and where do you get it i believe part of the problem i had when making this video was that the folds wouldn't stay down.

  • In the video I first show a blue model, made from rainbow colour Kraft paper by Pacon. The white sheet for demonstrating is normal kami. But this model also works well with printer paper. If the paper doesn't stay flat, try making your creases stronger.

  • Phew! That was alot of work. I think the part I'm abit confuse is the triangle twist .The triangle tist is hard because you skip to the end but I can figure out how to do the triangle twist. Thank you!! Best tutorial on youtube!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I've also done a detailled video on just a triangle twist. Search for "origami triangle twist" on YouTube, or watch watch?v=hprPezIv-ks

    danke

  • How where you got the plastic knife?

  • The "plastic knife" is a bone folder. Mine is indeed made of bone, but there are plastic versions available. It is sometimes also called a "folding bone". You can find it in some arts and crafts stores, and definitely in book binding stores. Also see: w w w(dot)origami-resource-center(dot)com/folding-bones(dot)html

  • you are so amazing

  • =D i made it =D it was fun

  • is domm

  • falsch

  • Ja ihr english is echt krass...

  • Käse, Wurst, Schinken, Brot, Kuchen, Himbeerkuchen, Fliege !

  • fuckin crazy =D

  • at 19:54 it looks like a flower

  • mhhh tesselation its a new feature of direct x 11^^ yea... there a alot of people in my monitor who origaming my grafic xD ohh look, oriGAMING^^ ;D

  • wow wenn du echt deutsche bist kannst du dafür aber english echt perfekt aussprechen o.O

  • perfekt ist was anderes

  • get a life.

  • if you think about it... she explains too much. like saying "fold into quarters by aligning the edge with the center crease". it is too much!

  • is this a type of tato thing? except you do multiple twists?

  • THAT IS AWESOME but i might not be able to do it.....=(

  • Cool!!! It's so relaxing to listen and what this vid! Almost like Bob Ross

  • nice voice!!

  • Wow - echt beeindruckend....tolles Vid!!

  • shes german right?

  • yeah i think as an american ( or what so ever) you hear it xD

  • @nyxPr1nc3 cant tell

normaly germans have a other prounounce

  • omg wo komm die punkte jez her?

  • Please i need help finishing the model, after i get two hexagons i don't know how to fold the last one because there are like 3 parts where you have to fold over already folded areas

  • You need to unfold the pleats a bit to add more triangle twists. I'm not sure about having three crossing pleats, and what structure you have right now. If you need further help, please send me a picture of your current status to sara (at) happyfolding (dot) c o m

  • if so what do you think. i cant say that i understand his program. i get the concept but his tutorial is a little hard to follow. hes a great man thou. he has done alot for origami and so have you by instucting us how to fold. it would be cool if you where to show us an instructional video on how to use tree maker. then we can really follow the footsteps of today's origami pioneers like yourself and Robert lang.

  • hey sara just wondering how your new video is going. the star box. can i been honest thou. most people do not enjoy tessaltions as mush as they do figures. if you had any eric joisel face mask that would be really cool but im probaly getting over my head. you dont budge. i did show his rat which is amazing. i like to capture the human image unto paper. its quite difficult on the count of it has many details to worry about. fingers face cloths etc.

question have you used robert langs tree maker

  • Re Joisel mask: It was an exception that Eric gave me permission for the rat. Also, I (at least currently) don't know how to fold his masks well enough to do them justice in a video.

Re treemaker: No, I haven't used it yet.

Re representational models: More of those will be coming, While I agree that I've done quite a few tessellation videos now (esp. if you count in the "basics"), the majority of my videos are still on representational models, and I plan to keep it that way.

  • think origami is something like a origam-swan..

    But good vid

  • great vid

  • fair enough sara. first the star box then the jack in the box. im looking forward to it. i never except defeat. i could have continued to pester you but theres no need.

  • JACK IN THE BOX. your tessellation are as good as the animals and creatures you fold in the the sense that people that are not familiar with origami can not relate to it as much as they could a horse or frog or maybe a jack in the box.

  • Actually, I did announce that I'd do three Christmas/winter-themed models. The snowflake, the star puff, and next a star-shaped box. I can see that you're having trouble with accepting this, but that's life. I announced that the Jack in the Box would probably be the model after the Star Box, so it's not like I don't have plans on doing a video on it.

  • Sara, if I wanted to fold the one full of stars, would I just have to fold triangle twists for the whole thing?

  • Yes, if you only want stars, fill the hexagon. For the one I showed start with 32 divisions (rather than 16).

  • I'll try that. Thank you so much, Sara!

  • Sarah, would this happen to be the same tesselation Lang uses on his "stars and stripes"?

  • Nope, Robert Lang used different stars.

  • Ok thanks because I was about to say you folded them better than him. His looks less shaped than these.

  • Can you please make some complexer models!!! Like the scorpion you did.

I found it almost to easy.

  • OMG i love your origami
