I could seriously listen to him talk for the rest of my life. His voice is so.. like entrancing! I don't even know, but I LOVE it! It's funny how it sounds so much different than his singing voice.
I hate to say it Pete, but now in your 60's you do look very like Paul Keating (Australian ex prime minister, he also managed a band called the Ramrods!!)
gr8 songwriter, sooo intelligent, those 4 guys together were magnificent, keith wot can i say the greatest drummer to eva live n john's bass playin out of this world, rogers voice fitted so well with the music they played n then pete who wrote the music n brought a deeper meanin to it all - aint we lucky they all met n formed one of the best bands ever
As a woman, I too don't get why women prefered Roger. Any of the other three were much much much better: Pete is big nosed blue eyed genius, Keith is loonie machine, John is a bass monster, and Roger... well, as Pete once said, Roger is just the singer.
@celuloidiana Don't be so rough about Roger ^^ He's a great singer, and he's overall the voice of The Who. If you replace him by another singer, it won't be the same. They're all irreplaceable in this band !
@celuloidiana well to be fair and honest, Roger is the best looking and very talented singer with excellent vocal range. He can actually sing, in other words.
@celuloidiana i wouldnt put down roger like that even if he did just sing his voice was amazing, not many guys can scream like that without getting annoying
very talented man i greatly admire his music but i must say not that i am shallow and such but damn they said ringo's nose was big he is handsome though and a musical genius
I'm a 20yr old girl/women and i recognise this man as a superb performer and downright sexy, his character is very attractive and not in the least intimidating because he knows what he's on about!! So what if most girls love the pin up boys...the pin up boys have about as much character as a trodden on flea, (i generalize slightly prehaps!!) but if they want to take the bait let em', more Pete for the girls that truly adore him! Don't get me started about how gorgeous he looks when he smiles!
Let's be honest, calling Pete good looking isn't really common for most girls to say. But in a way, that's a good thing. Because they see that he is a truly intelligent, and highly talented musician, rather than his appearence.
@scartissue94 i got to tell you that JUST the girls fans of the who, like me, can see that he's cute, besides of his intelligence and music talent that i admire. i love his nose, eyes and the way he talks, with his countless ''you know'' . , his songs. are masterpieces. :D
I think Pete is really handsome, highly intelligent, and immensely talented. I'm probably the 1% at my high school that likes him while the rest of the girls prefer Taylor Lautner. : \
@DElasee I feel you... I feel you... I was in Psychology the other day, and my teacher was talking about how Pete has this thing with his hearing that makes him always hear ringing, and so the girl next to me was like, "I don't even know who that is." And I turned to her and said, "HOW CAN YOU NOT KNOW WHO PETE TOWNSHED IS?!" They just don't get it... I'm in love with Bob Dylan, and feel the way you do about Pete. Most people these days (except the adults) just don't understand our love for them
Pete always had an answer for everything. Always had an opinion in which is expressed with such honesty and eloquence (even when he was high as a kite). It's really admirable. I can listen to this man give a weather report and still remain intrigued.
I Will never ever understand why most women preferred Roger in those days. He's got nothing on Pete's unique looks and intelligence.
@gdosic wow, you perfectly summed up everything i love about him. although, it's easy to see why girls preferred roger; he's a lot more conventionally good-looking.
@gdosic Because Roger was easier on the brains, for girls, better filter to leave the ground for smarter women. The original punk destilled off beatnik decades, even Hendrix HAD to destroy his guitar too, he saw thru it.
Pete is so cuuute! He has the cutest eyes and the cutest little rosebud mouth.
And this is a great interview because he would've only been 22 when this taping was recorded, and most of the 22-year-old people that I know are neither as eloquent nor quite as philosophizing as he's proving himself to be here. Many musicians can be quite forthright in their songs but when it comes to interviews they can't talk worth a damn.
About the recording of the Beatles without their voices being flippin` lousy (I'm a Beatle fan), he was obviously talking about the early days of the Beatles, in which, we can't deny, melodies are pretty simple and easy going, just as the early Who years were too. I don't understand why some people takes it in such a wrong way.
Pete is just a great speaker. He is very together to express his ideas both in the his speech and music. He is a very consequent man, very honest and intelligent.
........Along with nothing about specific genres which, yes, they had nothing to do with, but like I said, he is only talking in general. Only elitists & sheep-minded fanboys credit them with everything but the creation of the universe. Pete is intellectually superior to that mentally & musically.
From the sound of his statement, it seems that he felt that their pre-1966 instrumental backings (that's when he was quoted, anyway) were sub-par and lightweight. He, in fact, respected the Beatles as a whole, even going so far as to calling them his "main source of inspiration" in January, 1967. He especially had great reverence for Paul McCartney, saying in that same 1967 interview, "I like all the things he says, and all the songs he writes...". A shot in the heart of Piero Scaruffi indeed.
then i can proudly tell you that i fucking kicked that bastard scaruffis reviews out of wikipedia, a reliable source he is when it goes to talking shit out of your mouth.
but i can't see how ticket to ride or in my< life can be regarded as weak backing tracks, for ewxample, or even i saw her standing there.
Pete was so articulate, eloquent and just magnificent. He always had something to say, and he said it in such an interesting way. I love the music he writes, the accent he has and almost everything about him. I agree with the person who couldn;t understand how back then Roger got all the ladies. As much as I love Rodge, really..

you can call me old fashioned - but please tell me , if there is in pop music something comparable nowadays. What happened at these years to pop music was unique. And The Who did a lot for this.
Interesting..in a later interview he said he listened to the Stones more than the Beatles. He also mentioned that The Who opened for the Stones and how impressed he was with Mick Jagger. Love seeing this archival stuff. Thanks!
Yes, it's true that Jimmy Page played guitar on two numbers of the Who's debut album "My Generation". According to Pete, Jimmy Page played rhythm guitar and Pete played lead guitar on "I Can't Explain" and I think that Page played lead guitar on "Bald Headed Woman".

Man that is the funniest thing I've read in ages "he looks like Spock". Brilliant humour, though I imagine you meant it. I live 2 mins from Pete's house here on Richmond Hill (The Wick). I may mention the Spock comment next time I bump into the fellow.
Yeah I'm a huge Beatles fan also but love The Who. Both bands are excellent and quite different. The one thing they did have in common however was that neither included Ronnie Wood on bass.

Whotles you're so right. No one, and I mean no one tops the Beatles! The Who are brilliant and the 2nd best Rock band of all time.
