Someone must have told her once in her life "you can't do it". which, at that point (maybe when she was, like, 11) she thought "oh yes I can"...and did. All I can say is:
Hours of practice or not, this is magical talent beyond words!
If Jimmy Smith were to come back to life and hear this, he would drop dead again from pure awe and amazement. I am a HUGE JS fan and will always remain so but this girl fricken ROCKS The HOUSE!
There's no theme at 2:24, it's simply an mega-uptempo blues....which seems to be Barbara's main forte. I just wish I could find her playing a ballad... I'm not a blues fan (too simple with basic chord changes)...but with her musical prowess and technical speed it doesn't matter....to me, she's the "Tatum of the organ."
Ballads would be "Georgia" (here on youtube: "Barabara Dennerlein Georgia")
Or "Jessica" & "On The Sunny Side Of The Street" on the great record "Live On Tour" together with Charlie Antollini and Oscar Klein.
My favourite Organ-Jazz-record!! (even if the improvisation and chords are still relatively simple and very "bluesy") - But who cares, it's the feeling which makes the songs so good!
Love this woman, prefer her more traditional stuff, but what im confused about, is why does she always seem to ring up 880 000 000 and add perc? Always sound the same, but i suppose everyone has thier own number on Hammond, like me, im always 868 600 248....
When I saw your registrations and played them I was curious if you play jazz organ because of the 248 . What are your thoughts on theatre organ vs. jazz organ.
Well, im not a cinema organ fan, ive played on a few, but Hammond is for me, and i don't always use that reg, sometimes 800800008 or 880046008.....depends what mood i'm in! Lol.
Oh! Interesting. I design sound and I'd like to know more about this H-B3, if I may have more info about what are you writing about I would be thankful!
YIKES...!!! She KICKS bass better than a lot of bassists! And she REALLY knows how to make those tone bars work! Mr Hammond would pee his pants!! Incredible!!
@redbull101991 Yeah... That is funny. Apparently he wanted no part of the Leslie tone cab either. ...and I'll bet Hammond is turning in his grave listening to what the rock musicians are doing with his creation...:)

Perfect in alles? I Will visit her next concert, doesn't matter where! Thanks for putting this thing in the spotlight. Now I am trying to catch up on a B3000 it' s inpossible. Unmoglich, Danke
Marvelous! I have played pedals for a lifetime when I do my organ duos/trios,etc. in a blues/jazz setting and I appreciate your style. You are MY B3 player!
I wanna see Her with Trudy Pitts in a battle of the hammond Organists. And get both of them on a Pipe Organ too. They are both VERY good on pipe organs, which we associate with Classical adn Church music
Yeah, still way too few women playing jazz. perhaps because they need to be either ugly or learn karate before playing a gig LOL. Barbara is not only a world class player, but she also has a highly original sound. Perhaps Joey DeFrancesco can out-run her on the B3, but that's hair splitting. And Barbara is much lovelier to look at (no points for that in a contest though)!
Unbelievable! Just fantastic.... great by any standard. And for a woman? Welll...that even ratchets it up higher IMO. Can you imagine what she's like in bed? Oy vey!
Interesting pedal technique (no heel-toe, just toe)
the amazing Mike Carr (he is here on youtube)HAS EVEN BETTER PEDAL TECHNIQUE imho. He gets grace notes on the pedal board by using heel-toe like classical organists.
Jimmy Smithyishilishitly!! YEAH!! Babs so is out there baby....Too cool for school. She wrote the book for good road music when she rockin' with her band.
not as good as jimmy? well jimmy certainly layed down many of the roots of todays playing, but barbara takes it many steps further..and she plays the pedals...jimmy never did this... he played the bass with his left hadn when he had no bassist. but i sure learned a lot from him!
Jimmy actually did play the pedals! This is not to rank either of them, but one reporter said what you did, and Jimmy kept him there for about an hour while he played the pedals...and showed him!
I played with her at Sweet Basil's years ago. Her command of the instrument is amazing. When I wasn't soloing, I was enthralled watching and listening to her superb foot pedal bass lines. I am surprised not more people know about her here in the States.
Yeah. We were on the record label, Enja Records. So the company set up a gig, with other artists on its label. Tony Reedus was drums. Maybe guitar too, but it has been a LONG time (around 1990 or so). She is amazing.
I need another hand to do half of what she does in this video. o,o

Any real organist knows you can't compare either... I love playing both styles. One hand washes the other certainly in this case!

I believe 880000000 makes the percussion sound louder.
adds some nice dynamic juxtaposition.
Is she using 2nd or 3rd perc?
It sounds like 2nd
