Tried camping with the wife in Glen Etive a few years ago and got chased off by the midges. Didn't even get the tent up. Worst year for midges I had ever seen.
These are highland midges, the most ferosios variety. It is a mith that smoke from the fire gets rid of them its just that they take a break in the midle of the night and come back for the dawn.If you go out on the loch a hundred yards there gone.
