  • you own the land not the coal rights you half to own the coal rights

  • Man mine companies doing this just makes me sick it should be stopped

  • Coal mining our future!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the problem is that most people are still just as ignorant today. Another attest to the dumbing down of Americans. We scrape off mountain tops and then rebuild them elsewhere out of garbage.

  • This man is a true human being!

  • I love you Larry. We need more people like you in this world. Keep fighting Mountaintop Removal!

  • you people realy gota understand that if it wasnt for removal then where can ya build and how ya going to get more buildings in for more jobs god bless the tree huggers for they no not what they think if they did we wouldnt see crap like this

  • i love coal they could take my home for it but i better be wealthy for the rest of my life

  • i love larry

  • This is part of the reason why MOST of the streams in WV can not be drunk anymore. When I was a kid it was safe to drink, twenty years later fish barely survive in it! Sad what we are leaving to our children to deal with.

  • Larry's home was made sustainably and he has solar panels. FYI

  • @aaronhammond07 realy wounder what they used to make thos panels and what is he gona fall back on if they break

  • Nah, just a hillbilly who thinks for himself and doesn't follow the herd. I'm just fine with logging too; I work outdoors. I'm not against coal mining (underground is fine), just mt. top removal. Besides, underground mining keeps more people employed. I don't understand how many "miners" don't comprehend the idea that mountaintop mining is worse for their livelihood in the long run. It ruins the local streams, destroys the forest, and speeds up the time when we'll run out of mineable coal.

  • Keep fighting the good fight Larry.

  • @BlankenshiptheDevil Stupid ass hippie..

  • @warth7 Dumb fuck redneck.

  • Hippies just want the attention... thats all it is. so the can say we done it,, now what do we do next stop logging stop building house's if you hippies are so much in tress do you not relize you live in a tree Yeah! thats what a house is made out of.. so dont go around saying you have all the answers becasue you know you dont so fuck off..

  • Larry Gibson dose not no shit..

  • Yeah, but he can spell. Best thing that could've happened for you was for your momma to swallow that instead.

  • stupid hippies....shut off their power if it is supplied by coal...that would fix their yowling right quick.

  • wow larry how do you pay taxes on that property you dont look like ya gotta job maybe its the gas well rights gosh your a money hog to huh

  • PROOF MTR IS BAD. In 1986 Larry Gibson was a 6 foot 2 inch genius now he is a midget R-tard.

"The Appalachians are the oldest mountains in the world..."

And these people go to college where? ROFLMAO

  • mtr has no need to continue. it doesnt produce enough coal for the destruction it causes.

  • I have lived adjacent to a huge surface mine for 15 years and some of my relatives have for longer than that in Cabin Creek. We are all healthy. We go to such lengths because everyone outside of WV relies on us for thier energy and don't care how they get it. Cut back on your energy consumption and you may stop MTR. Do you think anyone in NY, NJ, or NM cares what happens here? As long as half the nation relies on coal MTR will continue. So shut up or turn out the lights.

  • i live in NY and yes i do care. im sorry to disprove your theory. mtr accounts for less than .07% of electricity in the US. it really doesnt affect us at all. sorry lol

  • I believe you are not just a little off on your numbers...Coal produces 51% of America's electricity...that's a long way from 0.7, don't you think?

  • actually if you look correctly i said that the 0.7 is actually MTR coal, not coal in general.

  • wow all these comments do not change the fact that what coal companies are doing is illegal. The people that write these ignorant comments on here are really pathetic. You are not worthy of being called Americans when you think this destruction is okay!!!! Children are dying and people don't have clean drinking water!!!!! No amount of threats will scare me and believe me I have many more years left than Larry and I will take on this fight myself!!!

This is not about anything else but GREED!!

  • if it was illegal im sure it would be stopped,so that throws your first comment out. are far as the comments about calling us people working in the mtr and mines pathetic, just remember we dont work, eventually you dont get your yellow check, someone has to pay in for you to get it out.and telling people that WORK everyday we arent worthy of being called americans thats is just plain stupid and we dont care how old you are you havent a clue what you are against, and we will fight to the end..

  • Ummmmmm ok clearly you are not familiar with the law. Clean Water Act passed in 1972. Dumping the into the valley fill the debris the sludge is polluting the water!! You think this is work because it's all you know.

  • You have no clue what else is out there because you are brainwashed! They don't even pay you fair wages! Then you are exposed to toxins that affect your health! This is a dirty business and you defending it means one of two things 1. You must be someone pocketing a lot of money or 2. You are just misinformed and believe in your government. I would guess you are the second one.

  • I am sorry you feel that you can trust just because something is illegal it would be stopped. Right there I can tell you have no no clue what you are talking about. Pretty sure the coal companies make so much PROFIT they can pretty much pay off everyone in their way.

I am sorry you believe money is so important that lives should be expendable including your own if you are partaking in this.

  • . You are a pawn being used by higher ups that could give a shit less about you your life and your family.

Sorry but do you know how much money is used to cover this up? Do you have any idea just how many people where I live have no clue about this and are ready to shut down all their electric??? Give me a break once people find out the truth how coal companies threaten and try to scare people off just because they have enough money to, the people will stand up!!!!

  • Strength in numbers proves time and time again to be the winning force in this country. Besides think of all the miners that have lost their jobs due to MTR!!! I am sure losing their jobs so the coal companies can make even more money at cheaper and more damaging costs. These people would love to stand up against the coal companies.

  • I have personally met people that were forced to sign agreements with the companies that when they got fired there was nothing they could do! The fact is the coal companies roll over everyone's rights, the citizens, the employees, and the land's rights! The fact is that this is all for greed and you trying to dispute this is just ridiculous. You really need to start doing the research and you will fight to the end???

  • makes me laugh one woman has and can change the course of history. Do not forget the most powerful woman ever including any man was Queen Elizabeth 1. She believed in her country and was able to conquer everyone in her way. This is the same idea. I believe in this country and people that stand in it's way of it's progress and self sufficiency is unpatriotic and shouldn't be allowed to stay in the land of the free because clearly you weak and are not in any part welcome in the home of the brave!

  • you think you have it all figured out dont you? heres the deal YOUR ASS IS STILL USING COAL POWERED ELECTRIC AS WE SPEAK, you treehuggers have awakened a sleeping giant, people are sick of you whining about coal and mtr,ITS NOT GOING ANYWHERE, and your little group of extremest nuts sure dont being to be calling us unworthy of being called americans, let me tell you this, we work and pay our damn taxes to keep sorry asses like you up, so here it is dont like it,HIT THE BRICKS.

  • oh and my college is a green college and does not use coal. no one is calling you unworthy, we have no extremist views, only hope for the future. research the topic.

  • Obama and the EPA approves huge surface mine in southern wv for Consol.

MTR keeps the lights on. At least that what Obamas EPA believes

  • There used to be a sign on the way up Kayford Mtn. that said "No tresspassing and that means you Larry Gibson." This was posted on the land before you get to the park.

  • i dont give a shit ankopoet what your name is. here it is in a nut shell i have seen you reply or speak your mind on here enough to use plenty of coal, and like it or not thats what you and all your tree hugging buddies are using. im sick to hell of you people constantly bitching, and telling us all how to do things right, while you are still doing the thing you say you hate so much. YOU ARE USING COAL POWERED ELECTRIC,AND SOME FROM MTR.PERIOD. QUIT FUCKING USING IT,ALL OF YOU,DO YOUR PART.

  • His kin did not sell that land, it was TAKEN from them due to the mineral rights Massey owned. The 50 acres that were not sold to the corporation for mineral rights, Massey is harassing the family to sell.

  • Please spend some time in Cabin Creek. I was born there in 68 and embarrassed to say it. MTR is the only thing that will save CC. It is full of Dope dealing, welfare recipeints who live off my taxes. 50 years ago CC was full of proud hard working miners. Now it is nothing. Larry, your own kin sold Massey and Arch the property so please stop complaining.

  • he looks like hes disabled.people like this is what we work our asses off for, makes me sick. a majority of treehuggers are check drawers. maybe we should protest them living off our hard work.oh yeah, amazing how they always so an active strip, job not a reclaimed one.

  • He drew a disability check, and even got one from Massey that he will never admit to. He never said a word till Massy cut him off and that is a fact. His own kin sold everything around him. LEGALLY

  • If you knew your history, after the Civil war, many of these people were coerced into selling the mineral rights under their property. They needed funds and had no clue as to the companies true intent to mine their land out from under them. As for Larry working? Honey, he is RETIRED. He worked years and years and now has the RIGHT to no longer work. He earned it.

  • Well, just because Larry is "disabled," and "can't" work, that doesn't mean that he should try and take everyone elses job! He doesn't "own" this land, it is the Stanley Heirs that own the land! He claims it, HE ran the family off! EVery 4th of july used to be a family reunion up there, then Larry gets these fuckin hippies to start coming and running everyone off! The Stanley family needs to get together and take THEIR land back from 'ol stubs!

  • lol, why do you persist in LYING. That is LARRY'S land, not doubt about it. It belonged to his family for 300 years and they never let it go. Get your facts straight.

Sure, he is slightly disabled, but he still WORKED his way to retirement. He now has that as well as his disability.

  • If it is Larry's land, then why is it the sign up there says Stanley Heirs Park??? I am in the Stanley family, I know!!! I have a right to go back there and build a cabin if I damn well please! I USED to go back there when the family gathered for the 4th of july picnic! Then Larry invited the hippies, and the Stanley's quit coming! Get YOUR facts straight! And he's disabled? He sure as hell gets around good in these vids!! He can climb ladders all day long! Maybe I need to call the SSA???

  • The mountain belongs to Larry's family. I was not referring to the park he overseas.

I have my facts straight. Just because your name is "stanley" does not mean a thing. I can say my last name is stanley too.

You were the one who said he was disabled, lol. I had told how he worked for years and earned his retirement. Others said he was disabled. If he collects a check, he put in his time. The disability would be the same as old age, lol.

  • Ok, you said in an above post it is LARRY'S land, now you admit it is the families land. And it is no big secret he gets a disability check! Thing is, he climbs ladders, get around REALLY good, and can lift alot of stuff that disabled people should be able to!

  • you tell them philbusa. Larry, get a job and quit living off the gov. Your own family sold massey the land so shut the hell up.

  • eng1225; You have no idea of proper land stewardship. It involves passing on to future generations the earth we've been given. God bless a strong soul like Larry.

  • Then tell me why Larry's family chose to sale their properties. Yes that is a great example of stewardship. Larry never complained when Massey was giving him a check to, only when the money stopped did he start complaining and that is a fact.

  • ANOKETyou are a fucking idiot, you talk a big game, guaranteeyour ass is a cheese eating check drawer like most of the other idiots against coal and mtr. truth is it is jobs and affordable electric for everyone. dont like your electric,SHUT IT OFF,its no law to have it. i guess you have a solor powered computer. if you are going to bitch about coal and mtr, back it up,do your part. shut off your electric, sell your car and get a bike, live off the land. ill give you a few days and youll wake up.

  • First off it is clearly Anokpoet, say it right or shut the hell up. Secondly I don't eat cheese or draw any checks, I do graphic design work but no check drawing sorry. Thirdly if you want jobs and affordable electric start making solar panels and wind power locally, that would create a lot of jobs. Fourth I don't have a car too sell as I ride a bike, I dumpster a lot of my goods and I am hopefully going solar soon and in a few years I am outta here hopefully living in a nice off the grid shack

  • I've always loved the state of WV. I have family there. This is sad. Alot of these families live simple lives, the way God intended. -He's right, money doesn't pay for everything!

Morals, values, Traditions, etc., have become a thing of the past. Don't buy a home, you really won't own it!

God knows I pray for a change for the better in this world of caos and destruction etc. But,

Unfortunately knowone can change the Prophecies (in the Bible) We Will see "the End" in our lifetime...

  • Bea Hernandez looks and sounds like an IRL South Park character

  • Anokpoet, You stupid fuck wind power takes hundreds of windmills (which would be put on reclaimed MOUNTAIN TOP REMOVAL sites) which in turn is more expensive than coal, the technology it takes for solar power is far more expensive than coal energy. So although you see WV people as below you, try freezing you're faggoty ass in the dark.

  • Hey robby go fuck yourself. I am actually a former WVA resident and I sort of moved against my will, I love mountains and I really don't care for power. As far as electricity wind power isn't great but it is way better than destroying beautiful mountains for some rich developers and coal barons to get filthy rich. Solar might be expensive because we don't use it much and in the long run it is cheaper than having to clean up the coal and destroy mountains and it can provide a shit ton of jobs!

  • I think you seriously need to get some education, because you clearly have a poor understanding of alternative power and how it can work on large scale and small scale operations and you also seem to fail to understand that it can provide many jobs and not destroy the earth as much. If you don't like mountains than move too some naturally flat areas and shut up! MTR is horribly destructive and requires less people to work so until you get some education you should not post!

  • Also if you like coal sludge and soot in schools and homes and hospitals than you are one screwed up person. People are getting sick from this silly MTR shit and all you care about is your stupid coal power. Why don't you and Don Blankenship and Joe Manchin go ahead and just move into Marsh Fork Elementary with some sleeping bags and live there and who knows maybe you will get why mountain top removal is so fucked up and wrong. It is unsafe, unclean and unnatural and unamerican!

  • And just too further shut your ass down my faggoty ass knows how to live without using heat or light, I could survive without a whole lot of power, people did it for centuries so you silly comment doesn't make sense. I am very happy in the forests and mountains much more happy there than in my proxy life in the cities and towns. If you don't like the beauty of America then honestly, you can just leave and go live on the moon or a landfill since you love flat ugliness!

  • Prove yourself! Turn your fuckin PC off, quit drivin your vehicles, motorcycles, etc. And I have went to MFES, I would stay there, I never got sick, none of the people that I KNOW went there got sick! Soot in hospitals? Get Real and get a fuckin job!

  • What vehicles? My bike? My legs? Nope sorry and my little laptop doesn't use much power plus I am hopefully going solar quite soon. So really you can shove it, I would find you and help you but with two jobs it makes it a bit hard. I guess for you being a professional moron is a full time job so you might find a friend to help you shove it. Oh and if you love MTR so goddamn much why don't you just blast yourself and save us some time. You don't fuck with Mother Earth because she can wipe ya out

  • LOL.. I think I struck a nerve...

But really, you ride a bike??? Imagine that, the have to use coal to melt down the metal for the frame, chain, etc.!! Looks like YOU support MTR! Your Laptop, I am pretty sure, has metal parts in it! Oh yeah, and everytime you buy something online, you burn a lump of coal. I don't need your fuckin help, my wife and I both work to support sorry assholes like yourself! I don't want to support people like you, but it's something that I have to do!

  • Let's see here my bike was used not bought new, I don't really buy anything especially not online. I work two jobs so don't whine about you and your "wife" working to support my ass, my ass is well supported by myself without sorry sacks of shit like yourself. My laptop does have metal parts (did you look that up on wikipedia, too make yourself look smart?)but I got it used so I ain't too worried about melting coal down. Hey Fuckyamountains how about you just fuckyaself. GOODBYE!

  • Sooo, just becuase you bought it used, coal wasn't used in making it. LOL.. damn your a stupid fuck! I do congradulate you on working 2 jobs, I actually applaud you on that! And actually, no I didn't have to utilize wikipedia to figure out that a laptop uses metal parts, I'd call it a hunch. Just because your shit isn't bought brand new, doesn't mean it wasn't made by using coal! So study, and study hard. When you can say you are self sufficient without coal, then we'll talk!

  • Wow I wouldn't have figured that...sometimes coal is used in production. You are a smart little fucker (note extreme sarcasm) I am fully aware that some of things I have, might have do with coal but I am not buying them new so I am recycling what is already there rather than throwing it out and trying to find something not made with coal that is new. Which would be more wasteful. Oh and the word is congratulate, there is no "d" in the word.

  • Hey everyone look, it is the grammer police! Thanks for informing me of my spelling problem! Guess we learn something new everyday! I'm not gonna tell you your grammer problem in the above post, I'll just letcha find THEM yourself! Yes, you may be recycling, but coal is still used in it in someway, whether it be the production, or the electricity to use it. So, you can tell people that YOU support MTR and coal! Thanks for your support!

  • That's nice I was simply pointing out a spelling mistake I had noticed...you obviously felt insecure about me mentioning it and are posturing to get back your "cred"

As far as your nonsense about what I use recycling means I did not contribute to the production of the products so no I didn't have anything to do with that usage. As far as electricity you have no idea where my electricity comes from so why make statements claiming I do. I am not supporting you, sorry!

  • I thank you for helping me with my spelling, I was only returning the favor! Take a deep breath and calm down! Maybe you need to hit your peace pipe?

You people really amaze me. Even though you bought it used, coal was still used in making it! If you live in WV, 99% of electricity comes from a coal fired plant.

  • Oh yeah...

I would much rather try to fuck myself than to fuck one of your "friends of the mountains!" Are they French? I noticed that they don't shave their legs or underarms! And from the smell I don't think they wipe their ass! But I'll give em the benefit of a doubt and say that they do wipe themselves, but I gaurantee ya it is from the back to the front! Later bitch!

  • What? Is this even an argument your talking about wiping and shaving and french people? You are off your rocker, fucking nutzoid bat shit crazy. What other gems do you have to try and insult me with? Are you going to call me a "poopy head" or "barf face", because I am pretty sure the kindergardeners would be mad if you took their insults unless of course you actually are one.

Your types crack me up, you try and try and try to insult people or attack them and end up in one big pile of EPIC FAIL!

  • Oh, I'm sorry, I seen you calling other people names and figured that I would join in. When did they start gardening in elementary school? Is that a new requirement for kindergarten? And I'm not the Epic Fail here, go look in your mirror, if you have one.

  • Actually both are accepted and used so either kindergarten or kindergarden. Plus the idea of garden makes sense because what are you doing there? Helping kids grow so they are ready for 1st grade. You are EPIC FAIL and you know it. All you have is your outmoded ideals and arguments that come from old rich white dudes who don't give a rats ass about the country the live on and in and would rather see everyone dead and them filthy rich then people thriving and happy.

  • Everywhere I went to school, and even in the dictionary the correct term is kindergarten! How am I an epic fail? Is believing in a fossil fuel that helped model this great country we live in? It is coal that is going to help us become the country we once were, once again! If it wasn't for coal and wood, then everyone would be dead! Froze to death! Again, if you don't support coal, don't use electricity from a coal fired plant, don't use anything metal, and most importantly, don't use your PC!

  • Hey it's AMERICAN AL QUEDA two comments down, Hey Osama bin surfaceblaster08

Would you suck Don Blankenships dick for

1 million dollars? I mean, you'll destroy entire ecosystems, pollute our water, and blow up our memories for what 75k a year? Don's got the cash, you could earn in 5 min. what it takes you a lifetime of blowing up our history. But I guess them deer are easier targets for a sorry shot on a shelved mountain w/ no trees huh? Loser!

    Surface mining is not needed!

  • he a gd liar they dont even blast near his graveyard anymore he just likes the attention

  • larry gibson loved surface mining when he was getting a royality check from the princess beverly mining co. they cut his old ass off now the loves the trees

  • I agree with you!

  • Though I have not lived in West Virginia for well over twenty years, I grew up in Dry Branch, Cabin Creek. As kids we would roam these mountains during every season. This is a tragedy. And the people of Cabin Creek? They don't even get royalties from this destruction the way folks do when oil is discovered.

    OBAMA N 08!

  • Coal is just a nasty business. Look at what Massey CEO Don Blankenship has tried to do to W.V. just so he can keep raping and poisoning the state. He's bribed and bought the Supreme Court and tried to buy the W.V. House for the GOP.

Coal is good for nothing. The USA does not need it. We'll be a healthier and wealthier country the day we remove our dependence on it. Coal ought to be outlawed. Thank God KS' Gov Sebelius has stood up like she has to Big Coal.

  • do u want electricity yea i thought so

  • I agree with you my friend!

  • First off usually you wait for someone too answer before you say something like "yea i thought so" (and of course you would at least capitalize the I) Secondly there are many ways of getting electricity, such as wind and solar power and we could also consider cutting back on this electricity. You can still sieg heil in the dark in fact it might be better for you. If people see you acting like an idiot they will give you an old fashion beatdown! SMASH THE HATE SMASH 88 AND STOP MTR!

  • Larry if you dont support mountaintop removal than dont shop at Wal-Mart on Rt 119. Just saying if you are going to piss and moan then you need to know what you are talking about.

  • What the fuck does shopping at Wal-Mart have to do with being against MTM? And if you watched the video, you'd know he's been fighting it since long before there was a Wal-Mart anywhere around. And he's not 'pissing and moaning' He's answering someone's questions and explaining how coal companies are leveling WV and lying about their so-called 'remidiation,' after they've destroyed some of the oldest mountains in the WORLD..

  • Larry has always bitched about Mountaintop Removal. It is amazing how people overlook the good that is does. What I am saying about Mountaintop Removal is it si ugly at first but look at it when they reclaim the land. Yager Airport is an example along with Corridor G. If you dont take in anything from what I just said remember this 'Coal keeps the lights on."

  • "It is amazing how people overlook the good that is does. What I am saying about Mountaintop Removal is it si ugly at first but look at it when they reclaim the land. Yager Airport is an example along with Corridor G."

You are so sadly misinformed I don't know where to begin. "Reclaim" the land? How you figure? Have you ever been to one of those sites? Yeager Airport is no more a case of good 'reclamation' of a MTM site than Bush is an example of a good president.

  • I think what he was trying to say is if we destroy the entire planet we could have one hell of an airport, and think of all the different cinnabun stands they could have!

I think this quote sums up the "good" that MTR does:

"It's like putting lipstick on a corpse." --Harry Caudill, author, historian, legislator, on MTR reclamation practices

  • I just talked to Larry yesterday. Larry doesn't shop at Wal-Mart. Larry despises Wal-Mart. If you are going to piss and moan then you need to know what you are talking about.

  • What does he rule?

  • Do you blast the surfaces of Coal River? I guess Larry rules the surface he sits upon. You know the underground mines are hiring. I happen to know that for a fact.

  • LOL, that right, he rules the surface he sits on, and that's it! He doesn't own the mineral rights!!! That park itself has been mined under from the Clear Fork side! Larry is nothing but a short stubby fingered bastard who wants attention because the Stanley family members have washed their hands of him! Oh yeah, did anyone know that he was adopted???

  • To Surfaceblaster: If you have to ask, you will never know.

  • Larry rules.
