Better to measure what is more accurate, the buying power of the average citizen. Think of it this way when China over takes America, the avg Chinese will own just as much "stuff" as the avg American now ie car, computer, house / rent apartment, tv, microwave, etc.. so imagine a country as "wealthy" as the US now but 5x the population..scary eh?
china's economy is not larger than the US's and all of Asia itself does not hold as large of a share of the world's financial assets as the US does. However, the gap is shrinking and it is very possible that China will be on top in the future; still, it has a long way to go. The trade imbalance is what is strengthening the Yuan and weakening the dollar and it can only continue as long as foreign investors continue financing US debt. This likely will not happen if America continues to innovate.

My family business of formulated brand functional health supplements selling to Chinese to help them avoid getting heart disease, as a preventative medicine practice. In terms of real goods & services China's economy has already overtaken the USA. The USA's economy is just rated as larger because of the huge financial/debt instrument components. The financier class is parasitic. They're not necessary and produce nothing of real value. Their only job was to facilitate who gets credit/capital for worthwhile enterprises. Today, all Wall St. does is asset strip. They take a healthy company load it up with debt and then strip it of its assets.

The living cost is high in US therefore the manufacturing industry can not compete with china. In terms of real goods & services China's economy has already overtaken the USA. The USA's economy is just rated as larger because of the huge financial/debt instrument components. The financier class is parasitic. They're not necessary and produce nothing of real value. Their only job was to facilitate who gets credit/capital for worthwhile enterprises. Today, all Wall St. does is asset strip. They take a healthy company load it up with debt and then strip it of its assets.

Living standards have not risen in the USA because wages have not kept pace with inflation thanks to the destruction of labour unions and the free market/liberalization propaganda that encouraged free trade.
