They lean back so that there is little weight as possible on the horse front end so that the horse can lift it's shoulders and legs up more. It also helps keep them in the saddle.
I was wondering about that! So that is intentional behind the vertical. I tend to do that myself at times but since my horse is not forward, it's not good and shuts our momentum down.

The Arabian industry offers Walk/Trot for the 10 & under. How old are you what breed of horse are you showing and what discipline?

@GoldEyedNickCLover 90% the class I believe 10% costume- They look for the higher headset and high animation in motion at the canter and gallop :)
