Oh BS. I think it didn't really fit with the rest of the show, but consider that that is a grooving bassline with a simultaneous vocal on top. In 8/8 time.
Frantz and Weymouth never got the credit they were due for being in charge of kicking the Talking Heads' ass.
I know it seems far fetched but I think The Talking Heads broke up because of the drummer's and bassist's relationship. Either way Talking Heads are great. Tom Tom Club are great.

Cool song, annoying banter. They seem like they got so revulsed by David Byrne's intellectualism they went off the other deep end and jumped the shark. I would like to see them back as Talking Heads or play with the B-52's
Talking Heads and Tom Tom Club have the same two main members. Its like Chris Cornell doing Black Hole Sun with Audioslave and then have them turn around and do Renegades of Funk.

kuriak - You may have a point. Perhaps some of my poetry might help? From time to time, the tried-in-battle their gray steeds set to gallop amain, and ran a race when the road seemed fair. From time to time, a thane of the king, who had made many vaunts, and was mindful of verses, stored with sagas and songs of old, bound word to word in well-knit rime, welded his lay; this warrior soon of Beowulf's quest right cleverly sang, in well-ranged words, of the warlike deeds
OMG, the Stop Making Sense tour is in my top three tours of all time to go see. Right up there with the 89 dylan/petty tour and the 79 Parliament Funkadelic Brides of Funkenstein tour. Always been a fan of Chris and Tina. And while he may be an asshole, who can deny the brilliance of David Byrne. His solo stuff may not be up to the same mark as Talking Heads, but its still pretty good.
tutto perfetto questa versione live mi pare davvero perfetta, migliore di quella (piu'cerebrale forse) in studio,a parte quelle 2 culone nere che non capisco a cosa mai possano contribuire nell'economia della canzone??!!??!!
It is a little obnoxious but...I think they intended even in the original for it to be a bit whack...kinda dirty doggish...tom tom and the heads where goofy like that
A classic performance by the Tom Tom club this was a good very period for music, R&B,Funk,Disco,Electro,Punk etc... all one luv, but i do agree the drummer should have chilled a little on the ad libs kinda killed some parts of the song where girls shine.

The drummer is married to Davud Byrne? Gee, thanks for the TH history lesson. I could do better by banging out the tune with my mouth shut. If he really loves his wife, he should let her perform the song. She can play, move, and sing better thean him.
This performance is from a Talking Heads concert, holmes. C'mon. Admit that his talking really takes something away from the song. I just wanna hear those sweet ladies sing.
I think that tina's singing is great, but that the drummer's comments fit in perfectly with the style of the song. Very upbeat, happy, and light-hearted. But whatever, to each his own.
I actually thought that too, the first time I saw this in the theater. It was like, "Somebody put a sock in Chris's mouth." But the more I watch it, the better it is, and his hollering actually adds to this performance, for me anyway. Just an opinion. :)
this is one of my favorite movies ever. at this risk of getting flamed, tho, every time i watch it, i think how much better the heads might have been without jerry harrison and chris franz -- david, tina, alex johnson, steve scales and bernie worrell. but improving the heads is a pretty tall fucking order to begin with. they still rock and i still miss 'em.

Serious question for the musicians in the audience -- is Frantz a good drummer? I always kinda suspected "no." But I was a (mediocre) keyboardist myself, so I defer to y'all.
Well, what makes a good drummer? I think he was perfect for the band. Technically he's fine; solid enough for rock&roll. He may not have been able to do Neil Peart drum fills, but who wants all that bullshit when you've got Byrne's songwriting and Eno producing? Basically, if someone's a bad drummer you know it because they ruin the whole band. I get what people are saying about the lineup, but that's like saying, "the Mona Lisa would be better if she just smiled more". :)
Right, clearly you don't want a wanky prog rock drummer for postpunk like the Heads. But my sense is that Frantz isn't actually all that rock solid; has trouble with keeping time on some of the funk playing the Heads moved into after 1979. But I dunno.
Put it this way: what if Steve Shelley (Somic Youth) were their drummer? No one would call him a Peart wannabe, but Shelley is straight fire.
I see your points, but I like that about his playing. You forget about him and the rest of the band comes through. He's simple, but not tepid, and he doesn't step on anybody. I thought the Tom Tom Club interlude was weird when I first saw "Stop Making Sense" at age 12 or so. But now I dig it.
Tina Weymouth's stage persona in Heads shows was deliberately minimalist -- she just played. It's a nice change to see her as frontwoman.
The little "freeze" move at 3:16 is a personal favorite.
Replacing Chris's "too much snow white" ad lib in the audio was weak-ass, BTW.
