  • I am disappointed in the lack of views of this song when "fergie vs. tom tom club" has like, 10, 000 more views. B|

  • Bass line... so funky...can't...resist...DANCING

  • I Luv TH, TTC and Tina, of course! :)

  • I love you Tina!

  • fucking fun!

  • too much of that godamn snow white all night!!! what happend to that phrase in the song?

  • Tina kicks ass.

  • Comment removed

  • Oh BS. I think it didn't really fit with the rest of the show, but consider that that is a grooving bassline with a simultaneous vocal on top. In 8/8 time.

Frantz and Weymouth never got the credit they were due for being in charge of kicking the Talking Heads' ass.

  • 4:15... her dancing is so FUCKIN sexy!! i love that... a girl with a sense of humor and nice legs

  • I know it seems far fetched but I think The Talking Heads broke up because of the drummer's and bassist's relationship. Either way Talking Heads are great. Tom Tom Club are great.

  • Pushing the groove too much - sad, 'cause the record kills.

But Tina's cute as hell, which makes it nice.

  • boo. I disagree. It's fun.

  • i love drugs!

  • DRUGS XD

  • what ya gonna do wen ya get out of jail? im gonna have sum fun..what do you consisider fun??? fun Natural fun....but here day say fun NASTY fun haha can you understand the difference :D?? wit a hippity hop and a hippity ohhhh, who needs ta think wen your feet jus go!!!

  • 4:10 lovely xD

  • This wasn't even supposed to be in the movie...

  • sweet.

    :D

  • What do you concider fun....... fun nasty fun.......do da do.

  • uh yeah....they wrote this song right? Cover?

  • lol they even say at the beginning "Coming to you from the tom tom club" the tom tom club wrote it

  • Talking Heads and Tom Tom Club have the same two main members. Its like Chris Cornell doing Black Hole Sun with Audioslave and then have them turn around and do Renegades of Funk.

  • Which in itself is a cover, get your point but bad example.

  • tina and doug were the tom tom club, it was a side project.

  • which the drummer and the singer were in,they wrote this

  • Comment removed

  • shut up chris!

  • What a hot cover!

This is def. better than the original!

Though I gotta give props to the Tom Tom Club, or else this cover wouldn't have happened :P

...and hell yeah, Chris' yelling does make this song, LMFAO...

  • this aint a cover what are you talkin about. the drummer and the bassist are married, ther both also half of the talkin heads. they wrote this tune, they done ther own thing you know

  • chris yelling in the background makes this song... and tina is sooooo hot

  • yeah chris yelling in the background makes this song haha what the fuck are you all on?

  • fuck you fuckin' haters. see, we can all swear.

  • the original song has him shoutin in it. it's not much diffirent.

  • Ahahaha Chris Frantz

  • tina is fuckin sexy

  • Tina Weymouth.... So great to hear her sing. One of my favorite bassplayers of all time. One of the thing that make me sad is that im never going to be able to see talking heads live...

  • at 1:23 i think that is the sweetest thing i've ever seen! (they are married)

i wish i was old enough to have seen the talking heads (even though this is the tom tom club, but y'know!)

  • ma quelle tre culone negre che cazzo c'entrano???

  • seriously the talking heads would jam like no other! one of the greatest groups ever!

  • tina is too hot.

  • thank you man! Superb!

  • i have a huge crush on tina weymouth!

  • I LOVE her performance !

  • There's something so charming about this performance. I just love it!

  • Which is taller? Tina or that bass?

Tina, in my humble opinion, is a very underrated bass player

  • This video sure could do with some Tom Tom Club tags.

  • esta muy buena esta rola

  • listen to speaking in tongues. it's their funkiest album i think. particularly "making flippy floppy" and "pulling up the roots"

  • the tom tom club is half of the talking heads

  • lets dance wowo good song love the words and music Good job to all

  • but this be at a talking heads concert.

  • OMG, the Stop Making Sense tour is in my top three tours of all time to go see. Right up there with the 89 dylan/petty tour and the 79 Parliament Funkadelic Brides of Funkenstein tour. Always been a fan of Chris and Tina. And while he may be an asshole, who can deny the brilliance of David Byrne. His solo stuff may not be up to the same mark as Talking Heads, but its still pretty good.

  • I didn't see any dancers. i saw backing singers having fun.

  • lol. dayum! 3 thumbs down. LMAO

  • its more than three now bub

  • tutto perfetto questa versione live mi pare davvero perfetta, migliore di quella (piu'cerebrale forse) in studio,a parte quelle 2 culone nere che non capisco a cosa mai possano contribuire nell'economia della canzone??!!??!!

  • It is a little obnoxious but...I think they intended even in the original for it to be a bit whack...kinda dirty doggish...tom tom and the heads where goofy like that

  • A classic performance by the Tom Tom club this was a good very period for music, R&B,Funk,Disco,Electro,Punk etc... all one luv, but i do agree the drummer should have chilled a little on the ad libs kinda killed some parts of the song where girls shine.

  • That dork is married to the lead singer. Besides, can you do better? I think not!

  • David Byrne is not the lead singer of the Tom Tom Club, Tina is. Get with it!

  • This performance is from a Talking Heads concert, holmes. C'mon. Admit that his talking really takes something away from the song. I just wanna hear those sweet ladies sing.

  • Jealous?

  • Brilliant. God, I loved TH and TTC.

  • im 35,i seen it in 85,this was well b4 its time,even though mari ceri,got her hands on it..geekily awsome,4 me..chioa..

  • Dreamy and druggy.

Highest product in American pop culture.

  • This works just fine !!

  • I think that tina's singing is great, but that the drummer's comments fit in perfectly with the style of the song. Very upbeat, happy, and light-hearted. But whatever, to each his own.

  • The drummer is also Tina's husband. His name is Chris Franz. He is also Talking Heads drummer.

  • I actually thought that too, the first time I saw this in the theater. It was like, "Somebody put a sock in Chris's mouth." But the more I watch it, the better it is, and his hollering actually adds to this performance, for me anyway. Just an opinion. :)

  • tina is amazingly beautiful.

    +

this song is an average song for the tom tom club

    and it kills.

  • I love Tina :D

  • Beautifuk eyes :)

  • NERD's REVENGE!!!!

  • Fun song from a great movie.

I'm a big Tina Weymouth too, especially the silly face she makes 2:28 into this video.

"...went to spain and did cocaine..."

  • I think it's "we went insane when we took cocaine" -- making the face particularly appropriate. ;)

  • Yay! I agree. though line is "Went insane when we did cocaine" sorry to be one of those jerks but this is the first time I've gotten the chance.

  • this is one of my favorite movies ever. at this risk of getting flamed, tho, every time i watch it, i think how much better the heads might have been without jerry harrison and chris franz -- david, tina, alex johnson, steve scales and bernie worrell. but improving the heads is a pretty tall fucking order to begin with. they still rock and i still miss 'em.

  • "at this risk of getting flamed, tho, every time i watch it, i think how much better the heads might have been without jerry harrison and chris franz -- david, tina, alex johnson, steve scales and bernie worrell."

^ Heh, you're a brave fan. I object on sentimental grounds, but I do know what you're getting at.

Serious question for the musicians in the audience -- is Frantz a good drummer? I always kinda suspected "no." But I was a (mediocre) keyboardist myself, so I defer to y'all.

  • Well, what makes a good drummer? I think he was perfect for the band. Technically he's fine; solid enough for rock&roll. He may not have been able to do Neil Peart drum fills, but who wants all that bullshit when you've got Byrne's songwriting and Eno producing? Basically, if someone's a bad drummer you know it because they ruin the whole band. I get what people are saying about the lineup, but that's like saying, "the Mona Lisa would be better if she just smiled more". :)

  • Right, clearly you don't want a wanky prog rock drummer for postpunk like the Heads. But my sense is that Frantz isn't actually all that rock solid; has trouble with keeping time on some of the funk playing the Heads moved into after 1979. But I dunno.

Put it this way: what if Steve Shelley (Somic Youth) were their drummer? No one would call him a Peart wannabe, but Shelley is straight fire.

  • And finally, since I feel guilty bagging on Chris Frantz -- some of his ad libs in this number are pretty damn droll.

E.g., Tina coos, "time isn't present in that dimension ..."

    "- Sure ain't!"

    :)

  • I see your points, but I like that about his playing. You forget about him and the rest of the band comes through. He's simple, but not tepid, and he doesn't step on anybody. I wish my drummer was like that (he doesn't know my youtube name). By analogy, when Adrien Belew jammed with them, it was frikkin' awesome... but it was different. Less DIY or something. It's hard to put a finger on it. Anyway, my 0.02 euros.

  • Yeah that sounds about right. he fitted nicely, the thing about talking heads is hey come off as one single entity and not a load of people playing. so if you look at it that way he's fine in the "mix" of music going on around him. and adrian belew is a beast haha

  • Dancing was way better in the 80's.

  • Slapppppppp that bass Tina!

  • Their dancing is unbeatable!

  • note to self dont sip soda while watching this. at any point. the dancing will catch you by surprise.

  • i'm so happy to find this THANK YOU!!

  • yea theres a big difference in the sound of the beat

  • You guys crazy? This kicks ass.

  • THANKS for uploading this!!

  • Lord have mercy, but Tina can play that bass...

  • Nice video

  • man the original version is better!

  • I like when she freezes up at 3:15, funny

  • Great live video.

  • We went insane when we took cocain. Very Niceee

  • Wow.I'm in love.Too bad it was 20+ years ago...

  • i was 17 back in 1984... what a wonderful band that was... and what a nice big-suit :-)

  • I didn't know Mariah Carey did a cover of this (Fantasy)

  • she sampled it she didnt cover it

  • She even covered some of the lyrics(in the original and in the remix).

    It's not an insult,she did a great job :-)

  • I highly doubt she did justice to this.

  • Nice to see a live performance of this classic joint

  • what do you consider fun? Fun, nasty fun.

  • Tina dancing between The Brides is the coolest thing in the universe. This homage to P-Funk is simply amazing.

  • I thought the Tom Tom Club interlude was weird when I first saw "Stop Making Sense" at age 12 or so. But now I dig it.

Tina Weymouth's stage persona in Heads shows was deliberately minimalist -- she just played. It's a nice change to see her as frontwoman.

The little "freeze" move at 3:16 is a personal favorite.

Replacing Chris's "too much snow white" ad lib in the audio was weak-ass, BTW.

  • Okay...WHO or WHAT is responsible for them changing " And too much of that goddamned snow-white" to "And everything is just jumpin' outta sight"? When was that changed? I bought this film on VHS when it first came out, and watched the Hell out of it so much for so many years that I didn't buy the DVD.

  • saw this many years whats the name of the vid this is from must have

  • It's from "Stop Making Sense" It looks like whoever posted this, has all the songs from the non-special edition. If you get it, make sure to watch David Byrne interviews David Byrne. It's very surreal.

  • thank you very much it's on my buy list

  • Who knew?

  • yea blondie is a cutie

  • HA! I couldn't agree more, except for the fact that if I was indeed lucky enough to have Tina in the corner of my bedroom (1) she wouldn't be playing bass very long and (2) there wouldn't be much sleeping... But I still agree!

  • Such a great song and video.

  • WHOA! strobe lights, man.

  • How F-in sweet would that be millermanartist? she is soo hot and she has the coolest sexiest little riffs.. ahhh.. just like sex.. check out the bass line in "Flippy Floppy" by the talkin heads!

  • ive been playing bass since 1984 now..tina is another one of those over looked woman, i really wish the tom tom club got more exposure than they did..

    D

  • This is a Talking Heads concert. Tom Tom Clue started by playing one song in a Talking Heads concert. Then they turned into the own group.

  • Typo, Club*

  • Dooktango, if she was such a "bad assed bitch" (which i don't think), why in hell are u listening to her songs?

  • I think that was a compliment in modern-lingo. Kind of like "sick" means "cool" and "bad" used to mean "good."

  • hard to see the tone of speaking when it's written ;)

  • she was one bad assed bitch. they should've had the bass player from a taste of honey along with them. now that would've been solid.

  • oh my god i love this, i remember me and my cousins used to do that light thing with flashlights! oh my god the memories.

  • i love, love, love this.

  • the song is by Tom Tom club, not talking heads
