This is one of the reasons why Breath of fire is held up there by most RPG fans: it's storyline was unique, dramatic and very powerful. You got involved with the characters... before this scene, Ray, a paladin who had helped us during our journeys, had to battle with us and got defeated...
Then, after you get to the bottom of the church, you face your father, Ganer, and you can choose whether to save him or not. If you don't save him, the scene you get is as dramatic as this one...
@maxletos Don't forget that Ray fought Ryu expecting to be killed by him, because he knew the only way to awaken Ryu's Kaiser form (aka G.Dragon) was to be attacked by a similar power. And no less important, remember how you got to the church on the first place (Mina ._.).
I remember that kind of games back that years...
You even cried in LOTS of scenes like this one
now most of today's game aren't like this :\

I don't get it. Isn't there some space between the left wall and that huge block? Why did he need to hold this partocular part?

If this was made in 2011 it would be about a 20 minute cutscene in full CGI with an angsty overtone.

The first time playing through I didn't think much of it, but now... that's pretty dam messed up, a lot was sacrificed for reaching that church.
I did think that this game was rather dark tho, but that's what made it memorable, and somewhat enjoyable, lol

Sad, but also kind of disturbing.

This has to be one of the saddest death scenes in a video game. Apparently, Breath of Fire 5 is one big emo fest.
