why not just dial 1-800-GOOG-411 if you're going to call it?

It's a shortcut. Ever got a mesage when you couldn't catch the number? Instead of pressing end then dial 1-800-GOOG-411, just go to the main and hit 3.
Should save on airtime too as the minutes are still counting instead of from zero again.

@411NewYork That's if you're already on the Google Voice menu.
If you just want to 411 and not already on the phone, then it's quicker to dial GOOG-411.
Then again, I understand if you use the auto-connect feature, and want the caller ID on the other end to reflect your Google Voice number.

I've always called it GOOG-ALL. I'm sure it was completely intentional to name it with 1337.

Because all Google application names include 1337? Because your priorities, attributed to Google Inc., are not misplaced? Because it's more likely that their name coincidentally happens to be identical to the purpose of telephone information dial number, than vice versa?
