  • Clearly, all of the previous attempts to stop heroin use on a large scale have failed. Addicts are not going to listen to someone telling them to stop, its an addiction. All the pamphlets are trying to do is cut down disease spread and infections that occur from intravenous drug use. They are no condoning heroin use, they just realize that people won't stop using so the least they could do is try to cut down SOME of the many risk factors. There's nothing wrong with spreading knowledge.

  • people are gonna shoot up no matter what the government says... all they are trying to do is teach people how to do it in a Safe way and without spreading diseases I see no problem with this/

  • @curtswangs Im with you on this....as an ex addict myself,i totaly understand WHY there trying to get some kind of msg across....And like you say, there trying to cut down on H.I.V. or HEP C. or any other infectious discease's being spread...PEACE.

  • Heroine use may not be safe, but there are plenty of things you could do wrong to cause additional problems on top of that terrible addiction. I think this pamphlet is a step in the right direction.

(NOTE: I do not shoot dope.)

  • No kidding! I care more about people being safe then preaching morals. There going to shoot up they need to be made aware of the dangers of incorrect needle use if only just as a reminder. Clean needles need to be available and btw stop throwing rigs on the ground so I can step on them, thanks!

  • This is critical information that the public needs in order to REDUCE infections, folks. Do you think finger-wagging and just saying no is the way to go? Nancy Reagan tried the same thing, and it failed miserably. People need access to info and clean needles - that will reduce infections, scaremongering won't.

  • we did NOT learn from prohibition on alcohol...same in a lot of ways....we have to quit treating drugs like as a law enforcement problem. Weve been pissing away BILLIONS on the "war on drugs" since Nixon and havent gotten anywhere. The drug trade is even worse now than it was then. u can pass all the laws you want but people will find a way to do it and sell it. The parallels are too many. It creates a black market, busts up families, creates an industry out of prisons.

  • The media caused this uproar, and they are also the ones who misconstrued the pamphlet as condoning heroin use. Heroin is never a wise choice, but that doesn't mean there isn't a proper way to stick a needle. Ask any anesthesiologist. If you can't understand that this is saving NYC money in the long run, then you are very lucky to not understand the drug. The people running the exchanges and clinics understand that ignorance kills.

  • legalise all drugs. Before the turn of the 20th century to be a drug addict was taboo, in fact in the late 1800s doctors prescribed morphine to alcoholics because people who were addicted to opiates were less detrimental to society. The problem is the black market that has now been created, and the gov'ments demonization of the drug user. Prohibition causes way more problems for society. You can't stop the demand. when you can sell something for 17,000 times the cost of production. Think it over

  • If heroin's a poison than why is it used as a pain killer in the U.K.?

  • wow so there going to slowly promote "shooting up" over marijuana....everyone needs to go listen to NOFX - Herojuana....MURDERRRRR TTTTHHHHEEEE GGGOOOOVVVEEERRRNNNMMMEEENNNTTT!!!

  • aaah fucken dumbasses.. what the hell those the "DEA" have a say so in this? alot? not much? who gives..

  • while we are at it lets make pamphlets on how to properly kill yourself using everyday house hold items. I know and have known many a user and there are those that need and want help. They are still around and give a shit, the others are well dead, and not because they used wrong, just too much and did not care.

  • Its not like people are going to stop. Making it safer is the best they can do.

  • People who are shooting up and doing drugs anyway will still do it with or without this pamphlet. Why not let them be as safe as possible. As far as those who disagree or are only thinking of their neighborhood like when "the needle exchange" is offered in a part of town where it's not wanted or something... even "they" can look at it this way... it can help cut down on diseases like Hep C & Aids so in the end, we all win.

  • Stupid fucking liberals and stupid fucking junkies. Kill them all. At least the junkies will do themselves in. Can someone help us stamp out the fucking liberals?

  • @ka1rtw Troll.

  • I had no choice in this matter. My mother was shooting heroin while I was in the womb, and she and her boyfriend would give it to me to "Shut me up" as a child. So, of course I am not dependent on it, and unfortunately the needle. I guess I deserve to die...treatment has never had an effect on me, I don't toss used needles in the street, and these pamphlets do save lives and for some help turn their life around. Alchoholics and tobacco addicts? Guess they deserve to live...

  • @endemicgoogle your life is worth saving!! i promise!! your mom had no right to shoot u up;. its kind of sad,, go get help,, trust me, it may not take the first 5 stints in rehab but i promise that sooner or later ur desire to not use will be greater than the desire to use.. good luck and god blus.

  • people aren't going to stop doing hard drugs from a pamphlet, so why shouldn't they be safer while doing it from a pamphlet?

  • I agree with the pamphlet. 32,000 isn't that much when you look at what it is on a larger scale

  • boy oh boy

  • its called HARM REDUCTION and there needs to be alot more of it. needle exchange, mobile hiv/hep c testing., sanitizer and alcohol wipes, ect. the war on drugs is a pointless war. lets try to do something that will help the problem from getting worse

  • Another fact that we dance around...The start of the drug epidemic in America was due to the abolishment of slavery. Slavery was and is bad, but im saying....America used chinese immigrants to help with the railroad in leiu of black slaves and they brought opium wich was part of the culture in china..then the hypodermic syringe, And the rest is little known history.

  • People are going to abuse drugs no matter what. May as well have info availible to show how to do so safely.

I agree totally with fahumsixtysix. Nothing wrong with information to reduce harm and even the spread of HIV...Especially if we dance arount the facts about HIV (it is spread mostly by homosexual males) so that we dont hurt someones feelings with the truth.......

  • Surely widening access to information like this is a good thing, as it reduces the harm associated with the use of the drug. I mean people are gonna do Heroin regardless of what the govt. says, so they might as well do it safely.

  • It's different when healthcare encourages it though.

  • They aren't encouraging anything. Its harm reduction.

  • Lost my only child 22 yrs christnas eve. Fuck off Get more help!

  • my only child died on Christmas eve of this .

  • just let the doctors give out the pamphlets. its not like fucking pamphlets are going to increase heroin use. it doesn't matter what law enforcement do, any person with a capable mind can find any drug they want with little trouble.

  • KEEP GOD OUT OF OHIO!

  • sunday worship is the mark of the beast remnantofgoddotorg

  • This is the fruit of Liberal minds, obviously.

  • We can all tell people not to use drugs like heroin. Heroin is a pretty dangerous drug, 90% of H addicts never make it out of addiction. No matter how many times we tell this, however, people will still use the drug. They might want help, they might not... but what I do think is that as long as people are going to shoot up, they should at least be equipped with the knowledge to do it in a way that drastically lowers their risk of STD transmission (something that will help us all) and death.

  • Are World Is Sick. Sick I say Sick. Just Getting Sicker. What Kinda Mindless Animal thought of This.

  • The pamphlet makes sense to me on a couple of levels: from a compassion point of view, harm reduction makes sense. Addicts are our sons, daughters, fathers, mothers, sisters, etc.

From a fiscal, cost-benefit point of view, I support it because of the savings from fewer trips to the emergency room.

  • Well at least they'll show these morons how to correctly fuck up their life.

  • @whiteyonwelfare Yea well, one of those "morons" could very well be your son or daughter or lover, even your parents.

  • The end result being that of doubling up the spending on problems making government waste even more abhorrent.

If someone decides to commit suicide by shoving a needle in their arm, I say let them have at it. Otherwise, I don't want my taxe dollars to pay for their own self-inflicted stupidity...

  • Too many negative comments to respond to each one but I will say this. You morons are very near-sighted. When someone gets AIDS or HEP C they carry it and infect many other people before they ever find out they have it. Its a PROVEN FACT that clean needle programs reduce the OVERALL spread of disease. Do you mind terribly if we try to reduce this spread as much as possible? Is it okay with you if we reduce the harm done by drugs to the rest of us, you fucking 'tards.

  • Where da FUCK is 'The Dice Man' when ya need ta make FUCKin sense of it awl?!

    Oh Yea?!

    Yafuggin mudda!

  • Our tax dollars at work...

  • May I ask you how else you would prefer your taxes be spent?

$70bn a year (every year) on a failed war on drugs. Im sure the cost of this pamphlet is a drop in the ocean.

  • Your making the classic mistake of associating money spent with actual need or positive results achieved.

Your also making the mistake of thinking that these programs are under the purview of the federal government., which they are not.

the federal government has no business spending money on internal police matters. It's job is to handle external (ie: International) affairs. Internal (ie: within the contries borders) affairs were to be handled by the states, as was needed.

  • you will have to forgive me, as I am from the UK, and my knowledge of the intircacies US Federal-States relations are hazy.

This pamphlet cost $35,000. That is it. Personally I think it better to spend money on health and treatment, than to treat drugs as a law and order issue.

Prohibition is a $70bn a year failure in the USA. In the UK the cost is £16bn a year.

Its time we recognised that drugs are not controlled under prohibition. We can only control them once we end prohibition.

  • I completely agree...

Al we have to do is look back 80 some years to the good old days of "Prohibition". The bible thumpers finally got alcohol outlawed. Guess what? we made millionares out serial killers like Alfonse Capone, bugsy segal, the purple gang, ect.....

Prohibition failed then, and it's failed now...

I still prefer not to fund someones sucidal tendencies...

  • @Whitehorze You forgot Joseph P. Kennedy

  • 'How To Shoot Yourself In The Head For Dummies'

  • What they think the addicts are going to stop with out it? Please, if your going to stick a needle in your arm then some pamphlet is not going to motivate or dissuade you.

  • What a bunch of knobs, I would rather spend a few thousand a year tryin to stop infections, overdose etc than 10's of MILLIONS a year treating them afterwards and if anyone is thinking that someone is goin to start shooting junk because there is a pamphlet telling you the safest way is a complete IDIOT and do the rest of us a favor.....

    please dont reproduce...

  • @flyyspit

I agree!... The people reading these pamphlets handed out by needle exchange don't need the help, but there's no reason to not give them the information to keep them as healthy as possible.

  • this is as bad as the surgeon general getting fired for wanting to teach kids about condoms

  • @xs1ner Agreed...this program is a GOOD THING! Addicts already have a terrible life for the most part, no reason to make it even harder. For once, people should give a shit about these, many of whom who have psychological issues, and simply never had a shot to "beat" opiate addiction, as the opiate may be the ONLY thing they know of that calms their minds and makes life tolerable for them. Sad state of affairs all around, but the people who DISLIKE this program really need to get a clue...

  • @endemicgoogle i really hope your being sarcastic

  • tomato twomato

  • The first guy they show is such a douche.

    DEA no doubt.

What you say is exactly right.

It tells heroin addicts how to do their habit safely. Not safe as in healthily. "Safe" as in not damaging their health anymore on top of how they already are. That is not ludicrous, though you might be for saying that.

And we get it, drugs damage your health.

Quit using sensational, less admirable words like "poison" to strengthen the sound of your opinions.

You know what else is poison? Your rhetoric.

  • its to help those who are going to do it anyway, show them how to do it without hurting themselves

  • agreed... What dam idiots,,, he says injecting herioin is dangerous.. so it doesnt matter.

Well 99% of people live through their herion injection properly done, but .. how many will if they inject it into their muscle or fat

  • Do they have those? Can i get 1....for....a friend. Not for me. :)

  • well what its trying to do is get people to not multiple sticks which can lead to infections also not sharing needles... n other stuff like that... on the other hand i don't agree that it should be distributed because... drugs are illegal and until there not illegal don't teach people how to break the law "in a healthy manner"

  • How to take heroin safely? What's next? "The secrets of 'clean' raw sex"?

    What a world.

  • COOL !!

Hey everyone he died from the overdose and not an infection and all thanks to a stupid fcking pamphlet !!

Must read for all the jr high kids while handing out the fcking condoms.

  • whats wrong with handing out condoms... i just saw a girl today only 13 years old.. 6 months pregnant... people need to realize that kids are doing it, and we need to make sure there doing it safely so they don't spread std's and don't get pregnant

  • whats the point?

Shooting correcting doesn't make the drug any safer so what the fuck are they spending money printing these hand outs?

  • they should make a pamphlet telling police how to arrest and throw these loser bastards into the tombs

  • I wish this reading material was made available back in the day... Would of saved me the headaches of trial and error.

Dont see what the big deal is... They give opiates away like candy at the hospitals. Hell, they'll even shoot you up themselves!
