@ pastorjoshmw - Some time ago, I saw this video with Hebrew/English lyrics on it. Was it your video, too? I so much would love to find that video again!!!
I'm part Jewish and my family celebrates a little Passover like giving away the bread but we don't do Seder... I taught my dad this and sang it so much he got annoyed. I was just trying to remember what key it was in.
Ken, 1 Corinthians 5:7 "Christ our Passover was sacrificed for us. Celebrating Passover is bitter and sweet a greater reminder of my sin and forgiveness of it.
To christians Jesus was the passover lamb sacrificed to redeem all of humanity and In fact all the jewish holy festivals and holy days hold a lot of relevance and meaning to christians. Pesach (Passover), Shavuot (Weeks/First fruits), and Sukkot (Booths/Tabernacles) being the 3 main festivals all christians should be aware of.
I am a Christian and I believe that Israel is a very sacred land. Whatever the Muslims do or any other countries do against this very small country they will not succeed for what ever reason these countries believe in, Israel will still stand for they are protected by GOD. If they are not protected by this REAL GOD, they will be annihilated thousands of years ago... And If I am not a Christian, i will be a Jew... I have a question to the Muslims out there... Muhammad is a prophet, right?
@zackharris6464 why do you want to burn the Christians? Did your god or even your ancestors never teach you how to respect religions? how pity. You are full of hatred, my brother. i hope that someday, you'll find peace in your heart.
I want to ask you one thing , on your opinion what’s the meaning
of Pesach (Passover) ? .. For the Jews people is In Memory that we were slaves in Egypt and God Took us From there , and gave us the promised land (Canaan) ->Israel ,I want to know what is the relation Between Jesus and the (slavery + suffer) of the Jew People In Egypt. And i want to ask you another thing ,
@ Undignified4JC...I am not saying this to defend myself because the Lord is my defence...but since I have lived in a Jewish household..let me bring to light that you are right...Jesus' name would have been pronounced Yeshua in Hebrew...but Joshua would have been pronounced something like Yehoshua...actually they bear the same meaning...salvation. Google "joshua in Hebrew" and you will find that Wikipedia comes up first and says everything I would say in the first parathesis.
U mean catholic church??? it is the "Largest church" They blind guides that teach falsely, just like other Churches who teach False Doctrine.....the Rod has been stretched out unto the earth! let every man be a liar and GOD be TRUE>FOR ALL HAVE SINNED AND FALL SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD, JESUS IS LORD AND MESSIAH!!!
Continued from other posts...Joshua in the chapter of Zechariah 6 is a typology of the Mesiach that was to come. It specifically states that Joshua comes in the name of the Branch. If his particular name was of no consequence, then why state it in this particular way? It is not altogether irrelevant to mention that when Jesus' name is deWesternized and in Hebrew it bears the same meaning as Joshua and is a variant of the name. If you read this text along with others prophecy gets more clear.
Second post continued from the first..."12 Tell him this is what the LORD Almighty says: 'Here is the man whose name is the Branch, and he will branch out from his place and build the temple of the LORD." Two things are important to point out in this verse: First the Branch is an name used to indicate the Mesiach (also found in Isaiah 11, Jeremiah 23), second the statement that Mesiach would branch out from his place means that his territory will increase, sound familar? ok I will post again
First of two posts...Its amazing the agreement that is found within the Hebrew scriptures...and the prophecies aren't always as ambiguous as they seem...Is. 9, Is 53...In Is 9:7 specifically it talks about the fact that when the Mesiach (messiah) comes his government wouldn't immediately encompass all people nor would it bring immediate peace...but rather it would be an increasing government and increasing peace. There is a similar statement in Zechariah 6:12,..see second post.
ur a fool for we know that HIS name is Yeshua meaning salvation the Messiah, so dont be so legalistic like the pharisses of TODAY! I pray U see the Light...
@jaikwillis...I see one thing...it doesn't matter to what one's nationality is...people are people. I recognize when one lives to argue and loves to argue...from everything you said to others...it seems this is true. You are not happy unless you twist and demean others and cast down everything someone says as hate or lies. See, here is a truth...I, am a nobody...and I say, let every man be a liar and G-d be true. And Yeshua is Lord. I have nothing more to say. I have said my peace.
@jaikwillis Many true Christians do celebrate Passover. Also, we believe that Jesus death was a picture of Pesach observance. Even Jesus himself observed Passover in the Gospels.
For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us. 1 Corinthians 5:7.
@pastorjoshmw every sect thinks of themselves as the "true" sect.
you are welcome to your personal beliefs of course my friend, whatever gets you through the night peacefully. i don't think the execution of dude is too much like the standard passover seder. generally when inviting a christian to seder, they don't crucify him.
@pastorjoshmw That's right. Passover/Pesach is a theological context for the meaning of Easter. In the passover story God rescues the Israelites from Egypt. Easter celebrates God's rescue of those that believe in Christ being rescued from sin. The meaning of Jesus' death is foreshadowed in Pesach celebration. It is widely believed that the communion/eucharist, one of Christianity's universal sacraments, originated in Jesus' celebration of the Pesach seder meal.
same time of the year for a time that humans probabaly can't truly comprehend. I don't have a problem with Christans or what they choose to believe but to show that image with such a sacred and beloved song, it's wrong in my mind.
Thank you for your comment. I do want you to know that this video is labeled Christian for the very point of not offending/suprising Jewish friends who watch the video. There is a Judaic version of the song on my channel as well without the picture.
You must understand that Christians believe Jesus is the Messiah (Christ), and our Scriptures state that "Christ our Passover Is Sacrificed for Us." Also, please know that Dayenu is a beloved song, but not a sacred song.
Fair enough, thank you. Again, regardless of that, I do respect the fact you are primarliy christian and take so much study in a different religion. Coincidently it is mine but even it wasn't I would still respect that because a lot of Christians that "I" have met("i", not all, my personal expirence) are reluctlant to listen or explore a religion besides their own.
Amen ! pastorjoshmw, Most (not all) Jews who are familiar with Talmud and Torah, etc. . . have a hard time seeing and understanding who Yeshua was and is. But look at all was done to them under the name of Jesus, by false believers. We must pray for them and love them with actions and faith. Shalom !
@MrRunningwolfe the only church that existed until the reformation made official policy of killing jews, the holocaust started before 1492 butchering communities whole sale. The church after the reformation produced no better. This recent revisionism you are expressing is a feel good invention of the last couple generations. tho its nice we can live together now with our disagreements.
@jaikwillis - Thanks for your comments. However, the "church" which persecuted our Jewish people was the Roman Catholic Church and in Russia the Orthodox Church, not any of the Bible believing sects, which have always existed outside of the Roman movement.
@pastorjoshmw that's willful ignorance. Luther, the original protestant, was an vicious anti-semite who published volumes of hatefilled diatribes. The jews were horribly oppressed in the protestant world just as they had been under the previous version of christianity, leading right through the holocaust and the eventual mass relocation to Israel. You are welcome to celebrate any holiday you wish, though it does kind of come off like a white guy wearing blackface & singing minstrel show tunes.
@jaikwillis Luther sadly became delusional at the end of his life. His poor health from years in the monastery affected his mind, and he shifted from being sympathetic to the Jewish people, to a monster in his writings. You will find those writings to come at the tail end of his life. That is always the problem when men are followed and there are no checks and balances. However, this was not true of all of protestantism, nor is it ever true of Bible believing Christians who live their faith.
@pastorjoshmw its hard to make a medical diagnosis of Luther, that's a lot of guesswork to make. It seems that every Christian thinks that they are the bible believing ones living their faith and the others are just off a bit. What is absolute and verifiable is that jews & other non-members were terribly mistreated under protestant rule as they were under catholic. its not a judgment on every individual person as there were exceptions, but it is the legacy of christianity as a whole. but hey
@pastorjoshmw Plus, the Lutheran church, much to their credit, has disowned these later anti-semitic writings of Luther. I don't know why Luther wrote those things. I do know he did great work in his life but he was still human. I think his teachings must still be tested through Scriptures. This, Paul wrote, is the noble thing to do.
@ jaikwillis...Those who were involved in the wholesale slaughter of Jews, claimed to be Christians. Claiming and being is two different things...I whose people had been slaughtered by people who claimed to be Christians know this to be true. But Yeshua never taught anyone to kill. Those who claim to be and act which such malice is evil. G-d does not approve of such things, and those people will be judged by Him.
@jaikwilis There is no such thing as "the only church" which existed before the reformation. There have been countless Bible believing, Christ following believers who never bowed to a Roman Pontiff and never participated in crusades or any of the atrocities you speak of. You are right that the largest "church" did these things, but they were and are not a church that represents the Jesus Christ of the Bible, who is Jewish and we believe Messiah. Nor would the Messiah condone such evil.
The Jewish and Christian Scriptures and holy books are just the invented writings of men. So don't make too much of them and kill each other over them. They're good literature, though, and they should be treasured as such. But definitely not prophecy or predictions or 'god's instructions' in any meaningful way.
The phrase "God said" occurs 10 times in Genesis 1, and the expressions "The Lord said/spake" "The word of the Lord came to" and "Thus saith the Lord" are found 3,808 times in the Old Testament. If your are right and it is not God's Word, then the Bible is the biggest book of lies and forgeries every given.
But if it is true "ReverendNat" then you are in a lot of trouble.
Psalm 19-7: The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple
why wouldn't a book that wants to be taken as the word of god say that it is the word of god? your argument has faulty logic in it. I do not know when the old testament was started, but i know that the new one was started several 100 years after the death of Jesus. so if you ever have played telephone you can make a good estimate on how accurate the bible is...
22439384: The problem with your undermining of Scripture is that you can't answer this questions. "How come all of the prophecies of the Bible have been literally fulfilled 100's to 1000's of years after they were written. Does this not prove the Bible has supernatural origins, not natural ones?"
@22439384 You are in error. The New Covenant started shortly after the ressurection, & finished 70 years later. Also we have many early copies. Let me list them
That all comes down to what your belief is, we are all entitled to our beliefs although I find it ironic you say that about christian scriptures and your name is "'reverend'nat"
And also, just as the truth really does hurt and awaken people. The teacher of the Galil, was a completely Torá observant Jew, part of the Pharisee's, from the House of Hillel, and not a christian. He stood firm with the whole Law, written and expoundings. So did his followers. He never claimed to be Messiah or even God, in fact the opposite. I advise to all sincere christians to learn hebrew! And then learn the Tana''kh and you will come to the truth of the Creator, most blessed be He!
Yes, Jesus was a Torah observant Jew. However, anyone who takes ten minutes reading the Gospels or the Babylonian Talmud (Sanhedrin 43a), will realize Jesus was at great odds with the Pharisees and rejected their extra-biblical rules and regulation they had put upon the people.
As to your claim that he never claimed to be Messiah or God, again, you need to take a few minutes to read the New Testament. It is packed with statements in which Jesus does claim His messiahship and equality with God
Also, I do agree that every Christian should learn Hebrew! Jesus Himself said,
John 5-39- Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
John 14-6= Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
John 10:26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 30 I and my Father are one
And if one learns Hebrew and one understands Judaism one quickly learns that there is nothing about Jesus as the Messiah in the Hebrew Bible.
If one were to discover an ancient text that proves otherwise that would be different, but there isn't one as yet. None of the classical Hebrew Bible citations are valid from a Jewish perspective so I say "Yes, let everyone learn Hebrew and understand the Jewish angle"...
The good thing is that some Christian scholars have done and are doing just that.
Ngamus, I suggest you read the thread, if you haven't done so already -- some of it contains fairly reasoned argument about several aspects of Christian views of the Torah.
There are several rebuttals of the Christian interpretation of Jewish scripture throughout the thread.
Personally I have no gripe with Christians clearly stating that their interpretation of Torah text is Christian, in particular the foretelling of Jesus as their messiah.
My objection arises when they try to tell Jews that this should be their interpretation as well.
In the eyes of Elohim there is never Jew nor Gentile we are all His children. All the problems the Jewish people have had was for told in the Bible. They turned from Elohim to be guilded by men. You reap what you sew. Thank You Very Much
Instead of lying about being 'Jewish', you should just admit you're Christian and be proud of it.
A Jew who starts worshipping Jesus is a Christian. He is an apostate. He is no longer part of the big Jewish family and can no longer be buried in a Jewish cemetry, etc. However he can return back to Judaism at any time.
Someone who was never Jewish in the first place and starts celebrating Pesach and mixing it with Jesus...how is that 'Jewish', you tell me?
Who is lying about being Jewish? Who said they were Jewish? Christians have a right to celebrate Pesach, as it is taught in the New Testament Christians use.
I Corinthians 5:7: Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:
This video is labeled "Christian" not Jewish. My account is pastorjoshmw, not rabbijoshmw. So what are you talking about???
It would be far more honest to say that "we Christians include the Pentateuch (or whatever) in our bible and we have our own Christian interpretation of that text" than trying to tell Jews what their Bible says, especially when the text is taken out of context and based on inaccurate translations and denies Jewish understanding of the text.
You will still get to heaven -- from a Jewish point of view -- as long as you keep the 7 Noachide laws.
Pastorjoshmw and all: the references to Pascal lamb are yet again completely un-Jewish. No human was sacrificed to produce the blood the paint the doorposts and lintels as a sign for the Angel of Death to pass over.
This business of Jesus being a or the pascal lamb is all Christian imagery.
It is pleasing to note that most of the world believes on one God, and a large chunk of these don't believe in any intermediary.
If you know Hebrew, you know that the JPS translation has chosen to transliterate, rather than translate, this phrase in verse 6 (5 in JPS): "his name is called Pele- joez-el-gibbor-Abi-ad-sar-shalom." If you translate instead of transliterate this, it is rendered: 'Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." What man ever walking this earth could ever accept those titles other than Messiah?
Verse 7 makes it clear that "he will reign on the throne of David forever"
I am happy to look at any Bible translation that has been published by an authentic traditional/orthodox Jewish source. I just utilised JPS (Jewish Publication Society of America) because it's free and out of copyright, so easy and legal to copy and paste.
As you know, it has taken centuries for some of the meanings of the Hebrew to be agreed upon (by Jewish sages).
I'm sorry Josh but you are seriously mistaken. That is not what the hebrew says. The hebrew says that teh Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, will call him(Mashiahh) the Prince of Peace. Please learn hebrew and then learn the Tana''kh and then comment about our bible that the Sages of Israel wrote and put toghether.
Dear destroybabylon: First off, I have taken graduate level Hebrew. Secondly, I have read the tanach through many times, and studied it for as long as God has saved me.
You are wrong concerning your rendering of Isaiah 9:5. Even the Jewish Publication Society does not follow your word order. They render the verse:
Isaiah 9:5: For a child is born unto us, a son is given unto us; and the government is upon his shoulder, and his name is called Pele- joez-el-gibbor-Abi-ad-sar-shalom;
So, if you took the Jewish Publication Society translation, and translated the nouns at the end of the verse instead of transliterating, you would have:
Isaiah 9:5: For a child is born unto us, a son is given unto us; and the government is upon his shoulder, and his name is called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty-God, Father-everlasting, prince of peace.
Destroybabylon, I appreciate you commenting but all english translations render the text this way, and none render it your way.
You've never read the last few passages in Yesha'yahu 52, and the entire 53rd chapter? as the suffering servant. In 52:12 (latter part of verse), and 13, "Elohim of Yisrael will also be behind you. See how my servant will succeed! He will be raised up, exalted, highly honored!" 53:10 even mentions "guilt offering." 53:12 mentions H-m as "bearing the sin of many and interceding for the offenders." (The Complete Jewish Bible)
buzzard73: The Complete Jewish Bible is not a Jewish document and therefore entirely irrelevant to Jews. Same applies to your other comment which you seem to have withdrawn.
Verses of Isaiah are usually used to 'prove' the foretelling of Jesus as the Jewish messiah, but the real meaning from a Jewish perspective is always different.
If some Jews choose to believe in Jesus, that's fine by me, but they have left authentic Judaism.
Jeremiah 31.15: Thus saith the Lord: A voice is heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping, Rachel weeping for her children; she refuseth to be comforted for her children, because they are not.
Where is the messiah here?
Like I said before, all based on incorrect translations, taken out of context or a failure to understand the Jewish context.
(I used JPS text, which is copyright-free, as you know, I am sure.)
Your Messiah spec may be the Christian one, but is NOT Jewish.
This verse has a "New" testament fulfillment, Matthew 2:16-18: Herod, when he saw he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under... Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying, In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.
Gen 1.26 "And God said: 'Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.' (Where's the Trinity here?)
Gen 3.22: 22 And the LORD God said: 'Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil; and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever.
"Let us" - Who is the "us"? God and the angels? Or is it the same one's speaking in Psalms 110:1: The LORD saith unto my lord: 'Sit thou at My right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.'
This is YHVH speaking to Adonai. Either G-d is scitzophrenic or there are different persons in the Godhead. Maybe the "us" is Jehovah, Adonai, and the "spirit of God hovering over the face of the waters." (Genesis 1:2) conversing.
pastorjoshmw, thx... Of course Tanach is Torah (Pentateuch), Neviim (Prophets) and Ketuvim (Writings) but I am sure you also know, or should know, that "Torah" also means the entirety of Jewish, which includes Oral Law and, these days, rabbinic writings.
Shabbat made by the Jews as commanded by the Almighty. If a Jew wants to practice Christianity then it is his/her business. But it has nothing to do with Jesus being the Jewish Messiah. Etc etc. Like I said in the now-removed posts...
Claims of Jesus being foretold in Isaiah are based on a misunderstanding of the Jewish meaning and on incorrect translations. Jesus does not meet the requirements of a Jewish Messiah.
As regards those Christians in this thread who claim to keep the 'biblical' feasts, I wonder to what extent they really keep kashrut and Shabbat (as opposed to the Sabbath, which is the Christian Sunday, created in order to be different to the original day of rest made by the Jews).
The Sabbath was a Shadow that pointed to our Eternal Redemption in Christ and now that the Eternal Rest has come, we no longer need the Shadow. Romans 14:5 tells us we can keep any day Holy due to the Sabbath ending. The 1st Century Christians met on Shabbat(Due to their Jewish Culture and Heritage) AND on Sunday(Due to the Freedom Paul talked about in Romans 14:5-6).
This all fine and dandy, but only from a Christian perspective.
It seems anime1217 does not really address the core issues, including that Jesus does not meet the requirements of a Jewish Messiah.
If Christians wish to believe that Jesus is their Messiah, fine, but they cannot tell others what their beliefs should be, even if it is a prerequisite of missionary activity, based on Jesus's supposed claim of being The Way.
Missionaries should stick to teaching Christianity to Christians.
Hosea 11:1 - Called out of Egypt Jeremiah 31:15 - Slaughter of Children at birth Isaiah 9:1-2 - Brought light to Galilee where most of ministry was Psalms 72:10 - Brought gifts to by magi Zechariah 11:12 - Sold for 30 pieces silver for potters field Zechariah 9:9 - Rode in Jerusalem on donkey Micah 5:1 - Hit on cheek Isaiah 53 - Rejected by His own, died for His own Isaiah 53:5 - Sacrificial lamb Psalm 22:18 - Soldiers gamble for garments Psalms 22:16/Zech. 12:10 - Pierced on cross
"Jesus does not meet the requirements of being a Jewish Messiah" Genesis 3:15 - Born of a woman Genesis 12:3 - All nations blessed through Messiah, through Abraham Genesis 49:10 - From the tribe of Judah. The scepter departed earthly Judah after Jesus. Deuteronomy 18:15 - A prophet like Moses Psalms 2:7 - Called Son of God Isaiah 9:6-7 - Called Mighty God Everlasting Father, Heir to David's throne Micah 5:2 - Born in Bethlehem Isaiah 7:14 - God with us/Born of ALMAH continued...
On Psalms 2:7: Traditional Jewish interpretation applies this figuratively to David - "You are as dear to me as a son" (Rashi). However, the context in verses 7-12 is speaking of the rule of the Messiah, as the "son" is even called L-RD in verse 11.
Concerning Isaiah 7:14, regardless of whether the word ALMAH is referring to a young woman or a virgin or both (which the majority of the time a young woman is a virgin in the TANACH), the point is that the child will be "Immanuel", G-d with us.
Let's try again and see what the censor here -- the OP of the video? -- does...
From a Jewish perspective there was the Revelation at Mount Sinai and none since. It follows there is no 'New' testament or an 'Old' one. There is the Hebrew Bible (or scripture) and the Christian Bible (or scripture). Whilst the Christian Bible may incorporate the Pentateuch (5 Books of Moses) it propagates ideas very different from Jewish ones, e.g. Trinity and Virgin Birth.
Aide memoire: From a Jewish perspective there was the one revelation at Sinai. There is no new testament.
Another reminder: The very existence of Jews today disproves that Judaism has been superseded. Only in the 20th C did the Catholic Church manage to absolve all Jews from being Christ killers (2nd Vatican Council). Fortunately this opened a new era in Jewish-Christian relations.
It is great that Christian scholars take an interest in Jewish scriptures and wish to learn more about the Jewish perspective, but nothing they say (or how often they repeat it) alters the fact that there is no second revelation (for Jews).
Dori1951 - I appreciate the way you discuss the issues, and your civility in discourse. However, I must disagree on this point. The TANACH is made of the Torah, Neviim, and Ketuvim. Jews accept all as the "Word of God', with the emphasis on the Mosaic Law. No Jewish group that I know of throws out the Prophets or Writings as uninspired by God. Only as of lesser importance. We believe God continued to speak through Jesus, as the Messiah.
John 5-39 Search the scriptures...they testify of me.
This song is originaly written by Jews, who do not believe in Jesus. However, the people singing this one do and are referred to as Messianic(Hebrew for "Christian) Jews. So to say this version is "Christian" is absolutely correct.
I do believe that you are mistaken. My people (the Hebrew children - yes, I am Jewish) waited a long time for their Savior, and the Lord sent the Messiah, Yeshua.
If you do not agree, I am sorry. But I urge you to check the Scriptures - Isaiah, specifically - and see if they do not point to Yeshua being the Messiah.
I would love to incorporate the Messianic (Christian) verse of this song into my Passover celebration. Could someone please tell me where I can find the lyrics? Thanks. Grace and Peace.
Passover (Leviticus 23:5) Pointed to the Messiah as our Passover lamb (1 Corinthians 5:7) whose blood would be shed for our sins. Jesus was crucified on the day of preparation for the Passover at the same hour that the lambs were being slaughtered for the Passover meal that evening.
Wow! That is very interesting! Just out of curosity, (and you don't hve to answer, but it would be nice!) What religon are you? (sorry for any spelling errors)
Im a Christian and all my church and I have being keeping the Biblical Feasts and Shabbat, I cant explain with words how many blessings our Lord has send to us, and how He is restoring everything in our lives... some one said, and I think it is true... Shabbat is one of things that has kept save the Jewish people, because they also had being faithful to the Torah.
YHWH bless all of you, and I know the time is coming when every nation will know our Lord Yahshua
In Devarim (Deuteronomy) 13: 1 The original translation (Torah) it says Be careful to observe everything which I am commanding you. Do not add to it, do not detract from it. (However this verse is found in the Christian "Old Testement" in Deuteronomy 12:32)
Yeshua is the Messiah of Israel and the King of the Nations, He is the fulfilling of the Law and our Passover Lamb. I'm Jewish by birth and a servant of Yeshua, and I wish all Christians would understand that by keeping the Biblical Feasts and keeping the Shabbat they are being a true witness to the Jewish people and a fulfillment of prophecy.
Isaiah 2:3 Jeremiah 50:4 Jeremiah 50:5
Micah 4:2
This is how we show that we love and obey the same God.
Whether or not a Christian celebrates the Jewish feast days would be a matter of conscience for the individual Christian. Colossians 2:16-17 tells us Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.
True, nobody can't judge you for that, that's Biblical. I was just sharing my heart's desire and if you don't care about being a good witness and reaching out the Jewish People for Yeshua their Messiah, that's you're on problem and nobody's else. My husband and I are pastors in Jerusalem and we travel the Nations preaching the gospel to all. We do believe in the whole Bible, we don't pick and choose only what is convinient to us, we believe God NEVER changes and His Word NEVER changes.
Thank you Pastor! Everyone: The Old Covenant was given to Israel ONLY to deliver the Jewish Messiah who would save the world. The things of the Old Covenant were shadows of the Messiah, as a reminder that the saviour was on the way. Now that Jesus(Yeshua) has come, the Old Covenant has vanished.
Hebrews 8:13 - By calling this covenant "new," he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear.
Yeshua said "I have not come to do away with the law or the prophets, rather, I've come to fulfill them. Not a Jot to Tittle will be removed from the law, until Heaven and Earth pass away."
Paul said, "So in all of this do we disregard Torah. No, we establish Torah."
In addition, Paul said, "Let us celebrate the feast of Unleavened Bread together."
"...what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear. "
Typical Christian -- and self-righteous, I am sorry to say -- view.
15m Jews today disprove this statement. No doubt the continued existence of Jews for the past 1900 years were a thorn in the side of the Church because of that.
Jews continue despite the Amalekite's best efforts to destroy them, right up the 20th C. Where are they now, the Egyptians, the (ancient Greeks), the Romans, the Barbarians..?...
truly despicable to try to take a holy, sacred Jewish celebration filled with great meaning to Jews, and turn it into a Christian tale. It is equivalent to a Jewish chorus singing Silent Night and leaving out all references to Jesus and implying that the savior is not yet born and Silent Night has not yet occured.
Luke 2-41: His parents went every year to Jerusalem at the feast of passover.
Matthew 26-19: The disciples did as Jesus appointed them; and made ready passover.
1 Corinthians 5-7: Cleanse out the old leaven that you be a new lump, as you are unleavened. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.
1 Corinthians 5-8: Let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
How about remembering that Jesus was born a Jew, lived as a Jew and died as a Jew. He would probably be horrified to see what his followers had to say about him, and would have called Avodah Zarah.
Jesus was Jewish and kept the Law. He would be horrified to see what Catholicism and cults say and do about Him. He is happy there are some who still follow His Word
Avodah Zarah is what He'd pronouce against all who worship false gods (Matthew 22:37-38).
Jesus Said: Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me (John 5:39).
Jesus said: I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me (John 14:6).
that was ridiculous!! not right at all im christian but i work at a jewish synagogue keep your own faith to yourself!!! not once has a jew tried to convert me so dont do it to them!!!!!
A Christian who "keeps your own faith to yourself." That seems to be inconsistent with being a Christian. Jesus first words to His disciples: "Follow Me and I will make you fishers of men" (Matthew 4:19). His last words: "you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the remotest part of the earth" (Acts 1:8). His great commission: "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation" (Mark 16:15). Evidentally, you are a great ommission "christian".
With all do respect pastorjoshmw, you must realize that it is unconstitutional for one to enforce religion on someone, whether by a strait or crooked path. To decieve- you don't need to admit it, the rest of the world knows christains do it- that to decieve one into christianity by clothing christianity with Judaism or vice versa, Is not somthing that Yashke (Jesus) would ever want to begin with.
... however, has any christain ever thought yet about the following?
Yashke (Jesus) according to the New Testement, shows him loving and compassionate towards everyone. Has Yashke ever told anyone beside his deciples he was "the son of G-d?" I don't think so... (beside the time when he "rose back into heaven")
"Yahske"??? Yeshua? Iesous? Jesus? Never heard of "Yahske". Jesus repeatedly told all He spoke to He was the Son of God, commanding them to repent and trust in Him. Have you ever read the Bible? John 10-30-33: I and the Father are one. The Jews took up stones to stone Him. Jesus answered them, I showed you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you stoning Me? The Jews answered Him, For a good work we do not, but blasphemy; because You, being a man, make Yourself out to be God.
First you are clueless concerning the constitution. You need to take a college (or even elementary ) class on U.S. government before you make claims so ridiculous. Second, who is deceiving? My name is pastorjoshmw, not rabbijoshmw. My picture is of Jesus on the cross. The video is entitled "Christian" not "Jewish". The Christian New Testament teaches Jesus is the final passover sacrifice (I Cor. 5:7-8). Jesus commanded Christians to share their faith (Matt. 4-19; Mark 16-15; Acts 1-8).
I dislike that you took a part of the Jewish Passover service and changing it to include images that are objectionable to Jews and Judaism. It was disrespectful. It would be like taking the wafers from the eucharist and using them for a purpose Catholics find objectionable, or disrespecting the images of Jesus. Respect is a two way street.
No one is trying to be disrespectful. Please realize true Christians use the Tanach and believe it as you do. Passover is also discussed in the New Testament, and celebrated by Jesus. I am not trying to trick anyone into watching this video. My user name is pastorjoshmw, not rabbijoshmw. Why is it disrespectful for me and other Christians to celebrate our distinctives of the Passover?
Luk 22-8: Go and prepare passover, that we may eat.
I Cor 5-7: Christ our passover is sacrificed for us.
And yet you must know that the Tanach has traditionally been understood to only mean the Old Testament. Modern Judaism (the last 1800 years) has elevated the Mishnah and Jerusalem/Babylonian Talmud etc... on the same level as Scripture. However, this was not so during the time of Jesus.
The important issue which you seemed to miss in my message is respect for Judaism. Judaism is a religion. You cannot convince me of your status as a pastor if you do not acknowledge this. Jesus was born a Jew, he lived as a Jew and he died a Jew...the rest is commentary and you know it. Listen, I am Jewish. I have studied at the Rabbinical level. I do not need you to complete my religion, but you seem to need mine to complete your religion and story. I asked that you be respectful.
Again, please explain where I have a lack of "respect" for Judaism. All I have said is that Judaism is a religion, and it is distinct from being ethnically Jewish. There are Africans ethnically who practice Judaism. This does not mean they are descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob physically, only that they have accepted the Tanach and Judaism. I have no desire to complete your religion, however Christians do believe that the Tanach is the inspired Word of God and I make no apology for that.
Judiasm is ALSO a religion (as you define religion). It is also an ethnicity and a nationality. This is all by Torah definitions, not my personal opinion. The confusion may be because of conversion. A person can convert to Judaism and if you look at Ruth as an example she says explicitly that she is changing her nationality AND religion AND people.
I have repeatedly said I agree that Judaism is a religion. I have also repeatedly affirmed that one is Jewish by ethnicity/nationality (one being a descendant of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob). So I guess we agree on these points.
Ruth 1:16: And Ruth said...thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God.
YES!! You have summed down exactly what I am trying to point out!
"Jesus was born a Jew, he lived as a Jew and he died a Jew...the rest is commentary " "I do not need you to complete my religion, but you seem to need mine to complete your religion and story"
I agree with following frodo. Christian imagery belongs to Christianity. Also remember patrojoshmw that the first convert to Judaism was Ruth. She is recognized for this in Judaism. Judaism is also a religion. I as a Jew disagree with you. In fact, if Jesus had know what was to happend to his people Yisrael in his name. He never would have come out of the desert when he went in for '40' days.
I have one simple request of Christians who wish to adopt Jewish tradition, please be respectful.
Im confused. I never said: (1) Christian imagery does not belong to Christianity
(2) Ruth was not the first Biblical gentile convert after the giving of the Mosaic law.
(3) Judaism is not a religion. Only that theres a difference between being ethnically Jewish and following Judaism. There are atheist/agnositic people who are considered Jewish by some rabbinical standards, yet don't follow Judaism. (4) Jesus would not be ashamed of the evil garbage done in His name. I'm sure He is- Eccl. 12:14
Honestly most Jews don't consider Messianic Jews to be Jewish. I believe everyone should believe as they want as long as they treat their fellow man with dignity and respect, but if you believe a messiah has come then you're not Jewish.
Thanks for your comment. Many take a little different position than you have articulated concerning "messianic" Jews. We believe being Jewish is your ethnicity, not your religion. Judaism is a religion. Jewish means you are a descendant of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and more specifically, your family survived the diaspora and this fact can be traced. I would wholeheartedly agree that "messianic" Jews are not practicing Judaism, and should not falsely advertise as if they are.
I find it interesting that many Jewish leaders still call one who is an atheist Jewish, but one who believes in the God of the Bible and happens to trust in Jesus as Messiah a non-Jew. It seems it would be better to have faith in God that not at all.
"I find it interesting that many Jewish leaders still call one who is an atheist Jewish,..."
I am surprised you even to bother to state this since the answer must be obvious to you. Or is this another case of seeing things only from a Christian perspective?
So let me spell it out: Traditionally the status is that if your mother is Jewish you are. If you undergo an orthodox conversion you are also Jewish, as if you were never anything else.
Belief in Jesus does certainly not make one a Jew.
Yes, obviously Judaism values your blood line over your faith and values/morals. The Scriptures refer to a Jew as someone who is a physical descendant of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I just don't understand how it would be better to be an atheist who hates or ignores God rather than a Christian who follows God and lives for Him. It seems very inconsistent to categorize the atheist still as a Jew but the Christian as a non-Jew even if his family lineage is Jewish.
Furthermore, in contrast to Christianity and Islam, Judaism does not require adherence to to Judaism to reach heaven. It values "values" more than you think, it seems. Thus a follower of any religion can get there, in fact more easily than a Jew, as I said elsewhere. The Jewish view of morals is universalist, not particularist. The only substantial thing it 'demands' is belief in One God as a starting point.
According to Scripture, those who are ethnically Jewish are descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Of course, Judaism considers those who convert to her religion as Jewish. The Old Testament has many that converted and became apart of Israel like Rahab the Caananite Harlot who was in the blood line of David or Caleb, whose father was a Kenizite, and yet he becomes one of the spies and a great leader of the people after the Exodus.
While it is your posting and your choice, personally I find it in bad taste to put Christian imagery into a video using a Jewish festival song. I also find the theology questionable since that is not my interpretation of the Scripture. But it is a common one

If you read this text along with others prophecy gets more clear.
joybe4me 1 year ago
Second post continued from the first..."12 Tell him this is what the LORD Almighty says: 'Here is the man whose name is the Branch, and he will branch out from his place and build the temple of the LORD." Two things are important to point out in this verse: First the Branch is an name used to indicate the Mesiach (also found in Isaiah 11, Jeremiah 23), second the statement that Mesiach would branch out from his place means that his territory will increase, sound familar? ok I will post again
joybe4me 1 year ago
First of two posts...Its amazing the agreement that is found within the Hebrew scriptures...and the prophecies aren't always as ambiguous as they seem...Is. 9, Is 53...In Is 9:7 specifically it talks about the fact that when the Mesiach (messiah) comes his government wouldn't immediately encompass all people nor would it bring immediate peace...but rather it would be an increasing government and increasing peace. There is a similar statement in Zechariah 6:12,..see second post.

@jaikwillis Many true Christians do celebrate Passover. Also, we believe that Jesus death was a picture of Pesach observance. Even Jesus himself observed Passover in the Gospels.
For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us. 1 Corinthians 5:7.

@pastorjoshmw every sect thinks of themselves as the "true" sect.
you are welcome to your personal beliefs of course my friend, whatever gets you through the night peacefully. i don't think the execution of dude is too much like the standard passover seder. generally when inviting a christian to seder, they don't crucify him.
jaikwillis 2 years ago
@pastorjoshmw That's right. Passover/Pesach is a theological context for the meaning of Easter. In the passover story God rescues the Israelites from Egypt. Easter celebrates God's rescue of those that believe in Christ being rescued from sin. The meaning of Jesus' death is foreshadowed in Pesach celebration. It is widely believed that the communion/eucharist, one of Christianity's universal sacraments, originated in Jesus' celebration of the Pesach seder meal.

jaikwillis 2 years ago
@jaikwillis - Thanks for your comments. However, the "church" which persecuted our Jewish people was the Roman Catholic Church and in Russia the Orthodox Church, not any of the Bible believing sects, which have always existed outside of the Roman movement.
pastorjoshmw 2 years ago
@pastorjoshmw that's willful ignorance. Luther, the original protestant, was an vicious anti-semite who published volumes of hatefilled diatribes. The jews were horribly oppressed in the protestant world just as they had been under the previous version of christianity, leading right through the holocaust and the eventual mass relocation to Israel. You are welcome to celebrate any holiday you wish, though it does kind of come off like a white guy wearing blackface & singing minstrel show tunes.
jaikwillis 1 year ago 2
@jaikwillis Luther sadly became delusional at the end of his life. His poor health from years in the monastery affected his mind, and he shifted from being sympathetic to the Jewish people, to a monster in his writings. You will find those writings to come at the tail end of his life. That is always the problem when men are followed and there are no checks and balances. However, this was not true of all of protestantism, nor is it ever true of Bible believing Christians who live their faith.
pastorjoshmw 1 year ago
@pastorjoshmw its hard to make a medical diagnosis of Luther, that's a lot of guesswork to make. It seems that every Christian thinks that they are the bible believing ones living their faith and the others are just off a bit. What is absolute and verifiable is that jews & other non-members were terribly mistreated under protestant rule as they were under catholic. its not a judgment on every individual person as there were exceptions, but it is the legacy of christianity as a whole. but hey
jaikwillis 1 year ago
@pastorjoshmw Plus, the Lutheran church, much to their credit, has disowned these later anti-semitic writings of Luther. I don't know why Luther wrote those things. I do know he did great work in his life but he was still human. I think his teachings must still be tested through Scriptures. This, Paul wrote, is the noble thing to do.
angelsoulblade 1 year ago
@ jaikwillis...Those who were involved in the wholesale slaughter of Jews, claimed to be Christians. Claiming and being is two different things...I whose people had been slaughtered by people who claimed to be Christians know this to be true. But Yeshua never taught anyone to kill. Those who claim to be and act which such malice is evil. G-d does not approve of such things, and those people will be judged by Him.
MrRunningwolfe 2 years ago
@jaikwilis There is no such thing as "the only church" which existed before the reformation. There have been countless Bible believing, Christ following believers who never bowed to a Roman Pontiff and never participated in crusades or any of the atrocities you speak of. You are right that the largest "church" did these things, but they were and are not a church that represents the Jesus Christ of the Bible, who is Jewish and we believe Messiah. Nor would the Messiah condone such evil.

gado2007 1 year ago

But if it is true "ReverendNat" then you are in a lot of trouble.

why wouldn't a book that wants to be taken as the word of god say that it is the word of god? your argument has faulty logic in it.

Does this not prove the Bible has supernatural origins, not natural ones?"
pastorjoshmw 2 years ago
prophecies have a tendency to be extremely broad. any prophecy can be fulfilled if it is ambiguous enough.

And then learn the Tana''kh and you will come to the truth of the Creator, most blessed be He!
destroybabylon7 2 years ago
Yes, Jesus was a Torah observant Jew. However, anyone who takes ten minutes reading the Gospels or the Babylonian Talmud (Sanhedrin 43a), will realize Jesus was at great odds with the Pharisees and rejected their extra-biblical rules and regulation they had put upon the people.
As to your claim that he never claimed to be Messiah or God, again, you need to take a few minutes to read the New Testament. It is packed with statements in which Jesus does claim His messiahship and equality with God
pastorjoshmw 2 years ago
Also, I do agree that every Christian should learn Hebrew! Jesus Himself said,
John 5-39- Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
John 14-6= Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
John 10:26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 30 I and my Father are one
pastorjoshmw 2 years ago
And if one learns Hebrew and one understands Judaism one quickly learns that there is nothing about Jesus as the Messiah in the Hebrew Bible.
If one were to discover an ancient text that proves otherwise that would be different, but there isn't one as yet. None of the classical Hebrew Bible citations are valid from a Jewish perspective so I say "Yes, let everyone learn Hebrew and understand the Jewish angle"...
The good thing is that some Christian scholars have done and are doing just that.

Dori1951 2 years ago
Instead of lying about being 'Jewish', you should just admit you're Christian and be proud of it.
A Jew who starts worshipping Jesus is a Christian. He is an apostate. He is no longer part of the big Jewish family and can no longer be buried in a Jewish cemetry, etc. However he can return back to Judaism at any time.
Someone who was never Jewish in the first place and starts celebrating Pesach and mixing it with Jesus...how is that 'Jewish', you tell me?
danceillusions13 2 years ago
Who is lying about being Jewish? Who said they were Jewish? Christians have a right to celebrate Pesach, as it is taught in the New Testament Christians use.
I Corinthians 5:7: Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:
This video is labeled "Christian" not Jewish. My account is pastorjoshmw, not rabbijoshmw. So what are you talking about???
pastorjoshmw 2 years ago
It would be far more honest to say that "we Christians include the Pentateuch (or whatever) in our bible and we have our own Christian interpretation of that text" than trying to tell Jews what their Bible says, especially when the text is taken out of context and based on inaccurate translations and denies Jewish understanding of the text.
You will still get to heaven -- from a Jewish point of view -- as long as you keep the 7 Noachide laws.
That's so much easier than being a Jew...
Dori1951 2 years ago

Some of the more recent translations are better.
Dori1951 2 years ago
I'm sorry Josh but you are seriously mistaken. That is not what the hebrew says. The hebrew says that teh Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, will call him(Mashiahh) the Prince of Peace. Please learn hebrew and then learn the Tana''kh and then comment about our bible that the Sages of Israel wrote and put toghether.
destroybabylon7 2 years ago
Dear destroybabylon: First off, I have taken graduate level Hebrew. Secondly, I have read the tanach through many times, and studied it for as long as God has saved me.
You are wrong concerning your rendering of Isaiah 9:5. Even the Jewish Publication Society does not follow your word order. They render the verse:
Isaiah 9:5: For a child is born unto us, a son is given unto us; and the government is upon his shoulder, and his name is called Pele- joez-el-gibbor-Abi-ad-sar-shalom;
pastorjoshmw 2 years ago
So, if you took the Jewish Publication Society translation, and translated the nouns at the end of the verse instead of transliterating, you would have:
Isaiah 9:5: For a child is born unto us, a son is given unto us; and the government is upon his shoulder, and his name is called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty-God, Father-everlasting, prince of peace.
Destroybabylon, I appreciate you commenting but all english translations render the text this way, and none render it your way.

You are exactly right! ONLY the Mashiach could ever accept those titles
buzzard73gmail 2 years ago 7
You've never read the last few passages in Yesha'yahu 52, and the entire 53rd chapter? as the suffering servant. In 52:12 (latter part of verse), and 13, "Elohim of Yisrael will also be behind you. See how my servant will succeed! He will be raised up, exalted, highly honored!" 53:10 even mentions "guilt offering." 53:12 mentions H-m as "bearing the sin of many and interceding for the offenders." (The Complete Jewish Bible)
buzzard73gmail 2 years ago 4
buzzard73: The Complete Jewish Bible is not a Jewish document and therefore entirely irrelevant to Jews.
Scroll through this discussion...

buzzard73: PS. "The Holy Tanach is VERY CLEAR in its prophesies about ha-Mashiach Yeshua.... It's not an issue "up for vote."
You are right about it not being an item for a vote. Jesus is NOT the Jewish Messiah.

Dori1951 2 years ago

Dori1951 2 years ago
"Let us" - Who is the "us"? God and the angels? Or is it the same one's speaking in Psalms 110:1: The LORD saith unto my lord: 'Sit thou at My right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.'
This is YHVH speaking to Adonai. Either G-d is scitzophrenic or there are different persons in the Godhead. Maybe the "us" is Jehovah, Adonai, and the "spirit of God hovering over the face of the waters." (Genesis 1:2) conversing.
pastorjoshmw 2 years ago
pastorjoshmw, thx... Of course Tanach is Torah (Pentateuch), Neviim (Prophets) and Ketuvim (Writings) but I am sure you also know, or should know, that "Torah" also means the entirety of Jewish, which includes Oral Law and, these days, rabbinic writings.
Dori1951 2 years ago
Shabbat made by the Jews as commanded by the Almighty. If a Jew wants to practice Christianity then it is his/her business. But it has nothing to do with Jesus being the Jewish Messiah. Etc etc. Like I said in the now-removed posts...
Dori1951 2 years ago
Claims of Jesus being foretold in Isaiah are based on a misunderstanding of the Jewish meaning and on incorrect translations. Jesus does not meet the requirements of a Jewish Messiah.
As regards those Christians in this thread who claim to keep the 'biblical' feasts, I wonder to what extent they really keep kashrut and Shabbat (as opposed to the Sabbath, which is the Christian Sunday, created in order to be different to the original day of rest made by the Jews).
Dori1951 2 years ago
The Sabbath was a Shadow that pointed to our Eternal Redemption in Christ and now that the Eternal Rest has come, we no longer need the Shadow. Romans 14:5 tells us we can keep any day Holy due to the Sabbath ending. The 1st Century Christians met on Shabbat(Due to their Jewish Culture and Heritage) AND on Sunday(Due to the Freedom Paul talked about in Romans 14:5-6).
anime1217 2 years ago
This all fine and dandy, but only from a Christian perspective.
It seems anime1217 does not really address the core issues, including that Jesus does not meet the requirements of a Jewish Messiah.
If Christians wish to believe that Jesus is their Messiah, fine, but they cannot tell others what their beliefs should be, even if it is a prerequisite of missionary activity, based on Jesus's supposed claim of being The Way.
Missionaries should stick to teaching Christianity to Christians.

A couple of classic cases of -- I have to say this -- self-serving misuse/mistranslation
Psalms 2:7 - Called Son of God
In short, the "son" is the people of Israel.
"Isaiah 7:14 - God with us/Born of ALMAH"
Although not actually stated by pastorjoshmw the usual Christian meaning is "virgin", yet in Hebrew it just means "youg woman".
Dori1951 2 years ago
On Psalms 2:7: Traditional Jewish interpretation applies this figuratively to David - "You are as dear to me as a son" (Rashi). However, the context in verses 7-12 is speaking of the rule of the Messiah, as the "son" is even called L-RD in verse 11.
Concerning Isaiah 7:14, regardless of whether the word ALMAH is referring to a young woman or a virgin or both (which the majority of the time a young woman is a virgin in the TANACH), the point is that the child will be "Immanuel", G-d with us.
pastorjoshmw 2 years ago
Let's try again and see what the censor here -- the OP of the video? -- does...
From a Jewish perspective there was the Revelation at Mount Sinai and none since. It follows there is no 'New' testament or an 'Old' one. There is the Hebrew Bible (or scripture) and the Christian Bible (or scripture). Whilst the Christian Bible may incorporate the Pentateuch (5 Books of Moses) it propagates ideas very different from Jewish ones, e.g. Trinity and Virgin Birth.
Dori1951 2 years ago
The New Testament goes right along with the Old. The Old Predicts the coming of Christ and he came, the end.
Old Testament Israel didn't know the Trinity and didn't need to. However, the Trinity is spoken about in the Torah(Genesis 1:26;3:22;11:7)
anime1217 2 years ago
Only from a Christian point of view.
Dori1951 2 years ago
Continuation:
It is great that Christian scholars take an interest in Jewish scriptures and wish to learn more about the Jewish perspective, but nothing they say (or how often they repeat it) alters the fact that there is no second revelation (for Jews).
Dori1951 2 years ago
Dori1951 - I appreciate the way you discuss the issues, and your civility in discourse. However, I must disagree on this point. The TANACH is made of the Torah, Neviim, and Ketuvim. Jews accept all as the "Word of God', with the emphasis on the Mosaic Law. No Jewish group that I know of throws out the Prophets or Writings as uninspired by God. Only as of lesser importance. We believe God continued to speak through Jesus, as the Messiah.
John 5-39 Search the scriptures...they testify of me.

These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.
pastorgeoff 2 years ago 3

Hebrews 8:13 - By calling this covenant "new," he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear.

truly despicable to try to take a holy, sacred Jewish celebration filled with great meaning to Jews, and turn it into a Christian tale. The New Testament:

To decieve- you don't need to admit it, the rest of the world knows christains do it- that to decieve one into christianity by clothing christianity with Judaism or vice versa, Is not somthing that Yashke (Jesus) would ever want to begin with.
espanattias 2 years ago
... however, has any christain ever thought yet about the following?
Yashke (Jesus) according to the New Testement, shows him loving and compassionate towards everyone. Has Yashke ever told anyone beside his deciples he was "the son of G-d?" I don't think so... (beside the time when he "rose back into heaven")
espanattias 2 years ago
"Yahske"??? Yeshua? Iesous?

Respect is a two way street.
adameliyahub 2 years ago 6
No one is trying to be disrespectful. Please realize true Christians use the Tanach and believe it as you do. Passover is also discussed in the New Testament, and celebrated by Jesus. I am not trying to trick anyone into watching this video. My user name is pastorjoshmw, not rabbijoshmw. Why is it disrespectful for me and other Christians to celebrate our distinctives of the Passover?
Luk 22-8: Go and prepare passover, that we may eat.
I Cor 5-7: Christ our passover is sacrificed for us.
pastorjoshmw 2 years ago
"...true Christians use the Tanach and believe it as you do."
Not so. They don't know about the Mishna nor keep Shabbat or kashrut and so on.
Dori1951 2 years ago
And yet you must know that the Tanach has traditionally been understood to only mean the Old Testament. Modern Judaism (the last 1800 years) has elevated the Mishnah and Jerusalem/Babylonian Talmud etc... on the same level as Scripture. However, this was not so during the time of Jesus.
pastorjoshmw 2 years ago
The Mishnah has always been there. Just its written form was completed about 1800 years.
Ok, and so what? Many things changed with the destruction of the 2nd Temple and the subsequent near-destruction of Jewry and its dispersion.
The destruction and dispersion was a generation and more after Jesus's death.
Your point is?

The important issue which you seemed to miss in my message is respect for Judaism. Judaism is a religion. You cannot convince me of your status as a pastor if you do not acknowledge this. Jesus was born a Jew, he lived as a Jew and he died a Jew...the rest is commentary and you know it. Listen, I am Jewish. I have studied at the Rabbinical level. I do not need you to complete my religion, but you seem to need mine to complete your religion and story. I asked that you be respectful.
Rossdhu16 3 years ago 6
Again, please explain where I have a lack of "respect" for Judaism. All I have said is that Judaism is a religion, and it is distinct from being ethnically Jewish. There are Africans ethnically who practice Judaism. This does not mean they are descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob physically, only that they have accepted the Tanach and Judaism. I have no desire to complete your religion, however Christians do believe that the Tanach is the inspired Word of God and I make no apology for that.
pastorjoshmw 3 years ago
Judiasm is ALSO a religion (as you define religion). It is also an ethnicity and a nationality. This is all by Torah definitions, not my personal opinion. The confusion may be because of conversion. A person can convert to Judaism and if you look at Ruth as an example she says explicitly that she is changing her nationality AND religion AND people.
adameliyahub 2 years ago
I have repeatedly said I agree that Judaism is a religion. I have also repeatedly affirmed that one is Jewish by ethnicity/nationality (one being a descendant of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob). So I guess we agree on these points.
Ruth 1:16: And Ruth said...thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God.
pastorjoshmw 2 years ago
YES!! You have summed down exactly what I am trying to point out!
"Jesus was born a Jew, he lived as a Jew and he died a Jew...the rest is commentary " "I do not need you to complete my religion, but you seem to need mine to complete your religion and story"
Absolutely perfect!
espanattias 2 years ago 4
I agree with following frodo. Christian imagery belongs to Christianity. Also remember patrojoshmw that the first convert to Judaism was Ruth. She is recognized for this in Judaism. Judaism is also a religion. I as a Jew disagree with you. In fact, if Jesus had know what was to happend to his people Yisrael in his name. He never would have come out of the desert when he went in for '40' days.
I have one simple request of Christians who wish to adopt Jewish tradition, please be respectful.
Rossdhu16 3 years ago 2
Im confused. I never said: (1) Christian imagery does not belong to Christianity
(2) Ruth was not the first Biblical gentile convert after the giving of the Mosaic law.
(3) Judaism is not a religion. Only that theres a difference between being ethnically Jewish and following Judaism. There are atheist/agnositic people who are considered Jewish by some rabbinical standards, yet don't follow Judaism. (4) Jesus would not be ashamed of the evil garbage done in His name. I'm sure He is- Eccl. 12:14

AzrRielev89 3 years ago
Honestly most Jews don't consider Messianic Jews to be Jewish. I believe everyone should believe as they want as long as they treat their fellow man with dignity and respect, but if you believe a messiah has come then you're not Jewish.
waccamatt 3 years ago 3
Thanks for your comment. Many take a little different position than you have articulated concerning "messianic" Jews. We believe being Jewish is your ethnicity, not your religion. Judaism is a religion. Jewish means you are a descendant of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and more specifically, your family survived the diaspora and this fact can be traced. I would wholeheartedly agree that "messianic" Jews are not practicing Judaism, and should not falsely advertise as if they are.
pastorjoshmw 3 years ago
I find it interesting that many Jewish leaders still call one who is an atheist Jewish, but one who believes in the God of the Bible and happens to trust in Jesus as Messiah a non-Jew. It seems it would be better to have faith in God that not at all.
Anyway, thanks for your comment!
pastorjoshmw 3 years ago
"I find it interesting that many Jewish leaders still call one who is an atheist Jewish,..."
I am surprised you even to bother to state this since the answer must be obvious to you. Or is this another case of seeing things only from a Christian perspective?
So let me spell it out: Traditionally the status is that if your mother is Jewish you are. If you undergo an orthodox conversion you are also Jewish, as if you were never anything else.
Belief in Jesus does certainly not make one a Jew.
Dori1951 2 years ago
Yes, obviously Judaism values your blood line over your faith and values/morals. The Scriptures refer to a Jew as someone who is a physical descendant of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I just don't understand how it would be better to be an atheist who hates or ignores God rather than a Christian who follows God and lives for Him. It seems very inconsistent to categorize the atheist still as a Jew but the Christian as a non-Jew even if his family lineage is Jewish.
pastorjoshmw 2 years ago
"Judaism values your blood line over your faith and values/morals."..."I just don't understand how..."
Precisely. You don't understand the real Jewish perspective.
Blood line and morals are two diffent things. A Jew stays a Jew until he/she actively seeks another religion.
As somebody else commented, the return to Judaism is easy.
But being a Jew does not automatically guarantee you a place in heaven.

Dori1951 2 years ago 2
Cont...
Dori1951 2 years ago
How do you classify converts to Judaism? Jewish or not?
Elisheva009 3 years ago
According to Scripture, those who are ethnically Jewish are descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Of course, Judaism considers those who convert to her religion as Jewish. The Old Testament has many that converted and became apart of Israel like Rahab the Caananite Harlot who was in the blood line of David or Caleb, whose father was a Kenizite, and yet he becomes one of the spies and a great leader of the people after the Exodus.
