  • One of the best series ever made. Fuck you Obama for basically eliminating NASA because you decided to bail out the banks (because they put you in office).

  • "We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things NOT because they are easy, but because they are hard."..still gives me goosebumps.

  • @hzuccarelli1

    cool story bro LOL

  • @hzuccarelli1

You don't plan on procreating, right? Good.

  • "In Memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice so others could reach the stars."

    AD ASTRA PER ASPERA

(A Rough Road Leads to the Stars)

God Speed to the crew of Apollo I

  • Best series ever

  • Can Kamen compose a sweeping, breathtaking score or what?

  • @theGoob713 Totally agree. I would cry, but alas I have no breath.

  • " From the earth to the Mars"

  • This music almost makes me weep. Trully epic.

  • Fow me, this was the most inspiring miniseries ever. If we can go to the moon, then anything is possible.

  • As I was born just after the last Apollo mission, and I love this series so much. I want to see a sequel. I want to see HBO's "From Earth to Mars". Oh, right, first, I need NASA to get there, and then HBO can make an awesome series. Do it, DO IT NOW!

"The earth is the cradle of humankind, but one cannot live in the cradle forever."

    —Konstantin Tsiolkovsky

  • @Mrblancnoir Oh yes, when will humans get to Mars, this seris really inspire me as kid back in 1998!

  • They were they last group of true American heroes. We're still waiting for their replacements forty years later.

  • A theme that sends my goosebumps up

    !

  • I had a chance to have Harrison Schmitt, the Apollo 17 Lunar Modual Pilot, sign my copy of the series in 2002 when he spoke at the University of South Dakota. I was only 8 @ the time, but I asked him what he thought of the series and he said it did a nice jib for Hollywood. I also asked him if we would get back to the moon using a combination of Shuttle and Apollo technology, which was later the basis for Constellation, and he thought we would.

  • @cubswinin1969 If you google Harison Schmitt yahoo chat, the website everwoodonline has a transcript of a yahoo chat that that he and Tom Amandes did back when the series first aired.

Amandes admits he doesn't resemble Schmitt much (I think he's a much closer match to the real Jim McDivitt). I'm always curious what the real people thought of the series.

  • Ho has done the music?

  • When i see the bit of the fire inside the command module, and how those three astronauts burned to death. I think about the conspiracy theorist pricks and how they say the astronauts were killed because they knew too much. It makes me so angry how they would disrespect the memory of those men that way.

  • For fucks sake pull your heads out of each other's arses. Arguing about this on Youtube isn't exactly getting anyone closer to the moon.

  • It's hard not to feel that this has been one of the greatest human endeavors when listening to this.

  • JFK someone Pres. Obama is trying to be and FAILING at it HARD.

  • @GTBurns48215 Sorry if I (a Canadian) insults anyone here; however, did everyone notice how ironic it was that President Obama talked about “a Sputnik moment" in his State of the Union Speech? (Mr. Obama being the one that has destroyed the US space leadership for decades by cancelling Ares and a trip to Mars.)

  • @mikefastener Obama has pretty much made it certain that He will be a 1 term president.

  • @GTBurns48215 Haha, you wish!!! The GOP has NO leadership whatsoever!!! XD XD XD

  • @mikefastener Serves the American people right for voting that idiot Bush TWICE!!!

  • @Marakulous43 I do not understand what you just said to me. As a Canadian, I cannot vote in your elections and I understand my views of America's ability in space is not through my tax dollars. But, President Bush did committ the US to space program to get to Mars and President Obama cancelled it.

No matter what your political beliefs--those are the facts.

  • @mikefastener And why do you think he cancelled it??? I'll give you a hint...it starts with an R.

  • @Marakulous43 reckless? rash? razzledazzle? rectal? relinquish (American's lead in space)?

    Need some help here....

  • @mikefastener You are 54 yrs old and you can't.....you know what nvm, I understand. Oh, and don't bother replying back either.

  • @Marakulous43 Sorry, left-wing ideas are now considered so weird...I don't believe you can blame anyone from not understanding.

    Hope I helped you!

  • @Marakulous43 And oh, maraku....don't bother in replying! You can see with my debating skills you are clearly outmatched.

(Maybe you can find a weaker debating opponent elsewhere.)

Take care and I am sure I caused you to look in a mirror.

  • @mikefastener Listen old man, I have better things to do right now. When the time is right I will debate you anytime, and yes I WILL OWN YOU!!! Now go run along to your mammy, I'm sure she needs you right now.

  • @Marakulous43 Listen my friend, I'm sure your parents' basement is nice and warm and mommy is about to burp you!!! -snicker -snicker

How about we move you to the Children's Table of Debating for now? Once you have grown up, we can consider moving you back to the Adult's Table.

Just a thought.....hope you are not offended...

  • The moon landings were all faked in a studio. They never went to the moon. Here's a link to some of the evidence.

  • This is the best mini series ever made without question

  • @saturnvsean Why can't America (Obama) dream the dreams of the past greatness of your country?

We in the rest of the world look on in sadness!

  • @mikefastener Simply allowing ourselves to be submerged into the past is not a way to go into the future. We have to try and do new things because when they were done in the past, they were new then too.

  • @ariandynas We must never forget the heritage that got us here! Wallowing in self-pity has never gotten anyone, anywhere.

  • @ariandynas Thats exactly why Apollo-on-steroids (Constellation) was a bad idea.

  • This video has to be louder! Love it.

  • Another example of how oftentimes, fiction can never be as awesome as reality. I'm reminded of how after some people watched Apollo 13, and said it had a 'typical Hollywood ending'. The closest Hollywood has ever come is bullshit like Armageddon.

  • love it! thanks for posting!!!

  • It's no accident waltsimons that you posted this on July 17th 2009, 40 years to the day after the launch. Good on you great video.

  • This theme song captures the feel and spirit of the space program.

  • I'd love to ask one of the REAL Apollo astronauts what they thought of this series. I've always wondered if Al Shepard got to see it (he died a few months after it first aired).

  • HBO intros are made of WIN.

  • Could someone show this to NASA and Congress to remind them what a space program should be...

  • @MithraisAugustus Unfortunately, there is the danger that they might be overwhelmed by the sheer awesomeness of it all.

  • @MithraisAugustus you're making a big assumption.....That congress actually gives a shit....about anything..

  • @MithraisAugustus Unfortunately they will not see this, they will only see the bottom line.

  • Never has there been a better series or film depicting the danger and adventure associated with Space Travel. Fantastic. Spider, and "Is that all there is?" were my favorite episodes although all of them were great, the Apollo 1 was a very hard hitting one.

  • @rammsteinnut47 Well, the Apollo 13 movie did a pretty (understatement) awesome (end of understatement) job of it, too, although it was more sensational than adventurous.

Have you read any of Andy Chaikin's books? They aren't film, but I'd recommend them to any space enthusiast.

  • i have watched from earth to the moon for 3 or 4 years i just brought the signature edition one of my favorite mini series the episode Spider is one of the best in my opinion

  • my favorite episode was "Is That All There is?", with Al Bean narrating it

  • this is why am on aerospace engineering at college

  • We're watching this in science and I love the intro theme.

  • HBO mini series allways have good into's band of brothers, the pacific and so on

  • one of my favorites.....thanks for posting....

  • I remember watching this when I was 6 years old first that made me want to fly and go into space

  • @skatepunkzero did you?

  • @Kargaroc286 Im on my way, in school right now, but I will

  • @skatepunkzero haha me too... except when i took my first flight, it turned to terrestrial aviation lol.

  • Beautiful!

  • This was a great series, I used to watch all of them. And I bought the Dvds when they came out.

  • I actually cry and wave my flag when I see this intro. Goosebump intro. And what a great series. Well done HBO

  • I remember gathering

around the tv with my family & watching this with my Mom & Dad at the time.

This might've been one of the last things we watched together on HBO.

    This was a fantastic Doc!

It had a very good storyline & the entire cast was wonderful in it!

I loved the entire series & now I got it all on DVD!

  • As do I, Once I saw it at my local video retail store for only $24.99 I couldnt help myself....I had to have it.

  • A great series telling an important part of American history. Everyone knows about the Apollo 11 landing but there were many other stories to tell that came both before and after. This gives people a chance to learn some of them.

How many average people would know about the close call on Gemini 8, or about Al Shepard's triumphant return to space after being grounded for nearly a decade?

  • God bless the astronauts, and the men, and women of NASA! I pray that in my lifetime, we make another journey "From the Earth to the Moon" : )

  • I love this series. It still gives me goose bumps

  • it was a great series, though it did come with its flaws.

the episodes where a mix of masterpieces and dull tedious turds (the last two coming to mind).

the second episode is by far the best; it blew me away

  • The last 2!?!?!?! they were awsome, the wifes club and le voyage. I will admit the series wasn't perfect but very very very very close to it

  • @juliuswhiteman I have to disagree. Le voyage was wonderful.

  • Great movie.

  • mmmmmmmmmmovie? that's a mini serie :S

  • Could anyone merge the beautiful clip of Buzz Aldrin punching Bart Sibrel in the face with this music?

  • Seconded. I would pay money to see such a clip.

  • @PedrofromHell

HAHA! Even when Buzz is 74 he still kicks ass although it is in a slightly more literal sense now. Rock on crew of Apollo 11

  • Here you go:

    watch?v=K6i_Ayj04Zw

  • where can i find this theme?

  • I think you can get it from Playtone, Tom Hanks' label, although I'm not sure you can buy it separately.

  • primez1-This is the opening credits to the actual HBO mini series from 1998.
