I have now listened to the whole CD, and I am totally blown away. TVZ's poetry/lyrics and DB's music meld incredibly well together. This is a well crafted project.... One of their both bests yet.
I disagree. I am a HUGE TVZ fan, and I just downloaded the CD from Zune Marketplace. Listen to the entire CD, it is really something that Townes would have been blown away by. It is not exactly as Townes would have done it, and I think tha tis the point. Guy Clark has his own take on Townes tunes, and they are not exactly the same (like Rex's Blues). I think that is what makes other artists's take interesting, especially when there was no music left behind to pattern or cloud the creation.
Got to be honest.... I just love David's work - which has been multi-lingual, multi-cultural etc, etc. All well done. But this project has me holding my breath. So far what I have heard is fairly good. The only TVZ song I know is "Pancho and Lefty" interpreted by ELH - a favorite of mine for a very long time. Could David pull his project off as well? ........ I' ll keep everything crossed.
I loooove TVZ and would love to hear someone like Guy Clark take a shot at these poems... But not this guy. Sure, he's very talented but that stuff he put to Townes words is terrible!!!
This is a wonderful outcome. Townes knew exactly what he was doing when he left these songs for David. A to us from both Townes and David.

There is none of TVZ hopelessness feel to the songs
I dont think DB is the right guy to write the music for those words
he is too optimistic and joyful
