  • after giving them remote access, but then cutting it off later, does it harm the computer in anyway? asides from being a scam company for money, do they actually damage your computer?

  • Still going strong. I've received two of these calls in the past couple of weeks. I let the guy who called me today talk for a while. What error messages? Generalities. Why does your company get these messages? Vague. Which computer (I have five or six running most of the time behind my router)? Vague.

Finally wished him good day and hung up. He called back to complain that I hung up on him! Persistent. Must be making money or they would not be there... beware!

  • someone from india called me claiming to be windows support and that I had bacteria viruses and germs. that raised my first suspicion.

they asked me to run eventvwr which I did figuring that step couldn't be harmful in itself and they asked me to say how many warnings and errors were in the log.

then they asked me to run fastsupport. com, not open it in a browser, and then I said I wont do that because I can't trust that you are microsoft. then he hung up without saying anything.

  • did anyone else notice that at 3:32 he said that they are giving her "a free license version at a fee"?

So what did they do call back and when my partner answered the phone they try to scam him but he was just messing with them to the stage where he told them the computer broke and he can't access it again as it's asking for money. They gone call tomorrow again::(scam scam scam

  • I got one of these calls to my house. I get them every couple of weeks. Decided to record it and give him some abuse. I put the video on my Youtube.

I actually hope they phone back because i'll get better at abusing them.....

  • I got called this morning. I didn't know about this particular scam, but knew right away it was a scam. I listened just because I was curious what idiocy they would invent. I put them on hold until they hung up. They called back several times and I chatted about my flowers, and told them I was mentally unstable and off to the psych hospital and could they wait? Did this several times until they just stopped calling. Had fun with it!

  • this is a horrible thing to happen to unsuspecting users

  • I allow them to access my PC remotely, should I be concerned?

  • @jasan509 YES

  • I also hung or just let the call go to voice mail & deleted the voice mail message plus caller id of the caller.

  • Guess what? I received a call today from what may have been a Technical support scam, but I never fell for it. I just hung up.

  • Thanks Symantec I have came to this conclusion before seeing this video a few months ago. My first clue was No return number on my caller ID for this company. I am very familiar with the error messages in the event viewer for many computers and when the technician guided me to this diagnostic viewer I had my proof that they were stringing me along.

These people really tick me off. Is there anything that can be done about this scam and invasion of privacy?

  • This is why I hate people who call themselves experts, they do more harm than good and rely on the good faith of people to sort their PC's. Recommendations are better than certificates

  • I received a call last night(March 16, 2011,) they had east indian accents and attempted to tell me my computers was experiencing problems, they wanted me to go to a website called 123logmein they also claim their company name was Maakaboor. I didn't believe it right from the start and when I told him I believed he was trying to scam me he became rude with me saying he wanted to fuck my daughter and to take my computer and stick it in my moms pussy,I then hand up. - Everyone beware of this scam!

  • My PC has been broken for abount 6 months now so when these guys rang up and said that it had viruses I was quick to say "haha my PC has been broken for about 6 months now dickhead" and then hung up lol.

  • thanks buddy i just recieved call frm 24/7 i just asked them some questions and googled in net i got this video, i asked them to fix it directly by releasing updates frm microsoft and hang up,

    same words

  • Hi , i just recieved a call from technical support called 24by7techsupport and i agreed to pay 80 pounds through paypall which would cover me up for a whole one year and they also installed norton anti virus 360 in my computer for a year ? Do you think its fraud ?

  • I just received one of these calls. I played his game for a while knowing that it was all a scam. The website they directed me to was techforhelp com And stated that it would cost me $195.00 au for 12 months computer support to fix my slow computer. After a while I advised the caller that I believed he was a scam and that I did not have a windows computer but ran MAC. He then abruptly hung up. So be careful of anyone from that company.

  • The best thing is to keep a referee's whistle next to the phone, when the phone rings and you hear that Indian accent: Give it to 'em loud and long!

  • I had a scammer just like this 3 weeks ago. When they wanted me to enter my personal details I kicked him out of my computer and hung up on him. After 1 hour he called back but my mum picked up the phone. She threatened him that of he called again we will be calling the police. The guy said go ahead call the police.

  • Got the same call erly this morning spotted it for exactly what is was..

  • That dodgy Irish woman is trying to scam the poor Indian lady

  • I just got taken for about 2 minutes with this crowd. An Indian chap with the unusual name of Nick Williams spoke to me stating he was a subcontactor from Microsoft. I let him show me the infections and ten he went to the search engine google to get some freeware.Rat smelled!. So Google, not BING and freeware!!. I turned off my wireless internet immediately. He then went thro his sales pitch of lifetime guarantee for £300 per annum. Don't think he made any password changes for remote access.

  • Sounds like Microsoft tech support

  • I got this call just 10 minutes ago...

  • @IP909 I just got a call from them as well. Some silence, then weird music, then some guy talking with a heavy Indian accent. My mother told them she wasn't interested and hung up on them.

  • just wrang me this is their phone number 0291916553.

  • My friend told me about the scam. She fought with the guy on the phone saying she never sent an error report then after a while told him she had a Mac... Well he hung up then. Guess they don't do Macs!

  • Apturo is providing tech support, and it is doing very good in its own way. Apturo guys are too good, and they have a very good reputation in market. Unlike others they are not providing any fake tech support, but they are really trying their level best to provide quality service to their valuable customers.

  • I got a call from someone named FRANK and said that i have got some problem with my computer and my computer has send some warnings and error reports to their server. They told me that they are calling from MY PC TREAT on behalf of MICROSOFT. After i rejected their offer i called in at Microsoft and asked them about this errors and warnings and they told me that it was a scam call from someone. These people and after money. Moreover they use paypal for the payments.

  • @rchyx

    lol

  • should've took the bastard to court.....

  • i would never give personal details/credit card/e-mail info

  • Symantec, I am wondering if I was a victim of something similar. I REALLY set up a support case for PCSafety, a legit Microsoft phone support service for malware-related issues. When they configured my case for a call back, my Caller ID said Microsoft. Yet, the last call, no phone number was displayed, and the name was "unavailable". They did remote assistance, and cleared the Temp and prefetch folder. I restarted, and Windows could no longer boot; Startup Repair failed. Is this the case?

  • They called me claiming to be from 'Microsoft Technical Department', claiming they'd received an automated error report although could not give specific details or my IP. When he wasn't getting anywhere, he said that they had 'scanned' my area and found my problem. Then claimed I need to renew a support contract. When none of it worked, claimed my XP license was illegal and he'd got my number from police. Hilarious. Had 3 calls from them - onlinepcsolution, 247pccare and now 'MS'(not).Beware
