  • apparently the Africans just never thought of it.

  • @CockapooGirl100 ah yes but the jewish biologist jared diamond had to explain why blacks never domesticated any animals in Africa. his entire book guns germs and steel is left wing propaganda.

  • Funny, a video of someone riding a zebra (pretty well) got me here. XD

  • animal lovers don't understand how delicate deer are. they rather them be transported than eaten if they are over populated.

  • this makes our ancestors looks like super retards

  • actually, zebras have been domesticated for about 200 years. I know several people who ride them without trouble. Horses are just like zebras in tempermant if they are wild. It just goes away through domestication and a couple hundred years of breeding.

  • horses can get meaner

  • I just poked the thing on the back of my mouth and dident gag...

  • RED DEAD- CHUCK NORRIS BITCH

  • The zebra ma nigga, the zebra get to the point, ah fuck it.

  • this is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO interesting :)

  • NOW I KNOW WHERE JB HIS SONG WROTE!!!

    xd

  • In Arabic

The zebra is named "حمار وحشي" "Himar Wahshi" ( or something like that )

And it means "Wild Donkey" or "Savage Donkey"

  • haha this guy sounds so stupid "before sponge bob....the stone age was before metal....dogs come from wolves..." mr. obvious much lol

  • no...never wondered that

  • His most recent book is on spirituality and pseudo-science, which just shows that he has a low IQ, like most that couldn't find the giant holes in the theories of Guns, Germs, and Steel.

  • Actually, the woman who posted the video where she smacks the zebra in the face intentionally while getting on it to show how tame it is uses the same methods used to train horses.

Go figure, she is a professional horse trainer.

BTW, this book was shit. While it had a good concept in using scientific methods in sociology, it had too much pseudo-science and poor subjective opinions in it. He shows that he does not actually have a good grasp of evolution.

  • How do you think animals become domesticated, dink! Read up on Evolution and learn about selective breeding. Do you think Beagles have a sense of smell 40 times that of wolves because god made them to help humans, or that Pointers sit their pointing at recently killed animals for fun.

I hate to school you again, but horses aren't born calm. They have to be trained to be ridden. If you don't train them, they grow up to be Broncos, not willing to have someone on their back.

  • Especially funny to see a video called "Why don't we ride Zebras", mixed in with videos of people riding zebras. A single generation of zebras without any selective breeding being tamed and ridden with only a couple of years of training. Hilarious.

  • Retarded! Wolves meet all of these requirements, huh. BTW, Zebras are being ridden and have been trained to be extremely tame. Even African Elephants were used by Hannibal to cross the Alps. Also, claiming gazelles and deer are too flighty, so were cows and horses.

I don't have time to teach you, but there is a technique called selective breeding. This is why the animals you claim are magically calm and like humans, such as the wolf (so you claim), have these traits.

  • @crazytown232001

    @crazytown232001

    Taming != Domesticating.

We can tame almost all animals on this earth for shits and giggles but domesticating them is a different story. Hannibal only caught his elephants in the wild.

  • @crazytown232001

    Taming != Domesticating

The video is meant for kids but the question was really why aren't Zebras domesticated like horses. We can tame almost all animals on this earth for shits and giggles but domesticating them is a different story. Hannibal only caught his elephants in the wild.

  • Narrator sounds like Mr DNA from Jurassic Park after being castrated.

  • Couldn't some of the domestication traits be selectively bred into the animals?

  • ehe for the time line, they used Schliech modles:3

  • Actually many people DO ride zebra's. I don't agree they do that, but they do.

  • Bwahaha. I lived on a horse farm, and we had a zebra (named Spot) for awhile. They are easily ridable. They're closer to donkeys than horses though, when it comes to personality.

  • Facebones is narrating this shit. lol

  • But some people do ride zebras!

  • Thanks for the video. It is very well done and especially very good for the kids.

Has done it in attractive and funny way. Great video..!

  • who is this made for? hhah

  • Love the wacky voice, funny animation and of course excellent explanation !

  • lol nice cliff hanger! fun video

  • thats before spongebob!

  • We actualy do ride zebra's

  • CATS ARE GONNA TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!

  • What does this Fucking queer look like?

  • Im glad we didn't have to watch this at my school. This guys vioce makes me wanna stick a pencil in my eye.

  • We don't ride zebras though you can.Anyone see racing stripes the movie?

  • cats eat rats and help get rid off pests for us.

  • that guy's voice annoyed me too much.. :-p

  • 4:11 that baby zebra is sucking the DAD, not the MOM.

  • this is stupid.

  • I've ridden a zebra! She is a Chapman mare gentled from birth. I rode her bareback with a jointed snaffle. Her breeder did say she was that 1 in 1000 that was really friendly. She was not able to pass that temperament to her foals. But the zorses he produced out of Quarter horse mares were wonderful! They were friendly like their dams, as well as being large and strong.

  • Horses flee also, lol

  • the elephant is domesticated?

  • this video is full of fail and way not to the point -.-

  • This video is full of fail.

  • no one has to be man's "hamburger" anymore. go vegan!

  • MMHHHHHHH.....................I don't think so. Riding a zebra! Who ever heard?!

Whh.. No zebras where I live.Bah! It might be very fun though.LOL

  • where is episode 2??wtf..can anyone tell me where??

  • @mulalamuhaha Type in "Why don't we ride zebras?" Episode 1...continued" to the Youtube Search bar and it will take you to the conclusion.

  • Again, this is a film based on a chapter in Jared Diamond's book, "Guns, Germs and Steel". The film is a kid's documentary explaining why only certain animals could be domesticated before modern times. Zebras can be domesticated today, but people who didn't didn't have modern technology (i.e. metal fences, sedatives, etc), found the species as a whole too ill tempered to be successfully domesticated.

  • this guy's a prick

  • @Austin17070 thanks! I thought so too!

  • This is very very bad. and it's inaccurate

  • Zebra riding occurs regularly and with increasing frequency.

  • Zebras can be ridden. It's been done.

  • @PinkPunkyKat

But you shopuldnt do it, because a zebra´s back is different to a horseback

and not suitable for a guy sitting on top of it.

  • but why bother taming and training a zebra when we already have domesticated horses? it just seems pointless and the zebra is the one that looses out, wild animal that means they belong in there natural habitat in the wild. leave them all alone.

  • just because your comment is so stupid, I'll make it my little aim to eat a zebra

  • @Shygirl252 horses were wild animals once too but we domesticated them anyways. its the same situation for a zebra the only reason it wasnt domesticated by the people of africa was because they lacked the materials needed for it

  • The narrator is a liar for saying that these animals have been living on the planet for 20.000 years. That's false.Even though the earth is millions of years old and there were some animals who lived here for millions of years, however zebras and other animals have lived here for less than 20.000 years.

Anyway, zebras are not horses 'cos if they were we'd be using them as a means of transportation too.

  • hmm. .. no.. 20 000 years isn't that much.

If you consider e.g. camels haven't changed from ancient egyptian times aroud 7000 ago..

why wouldn't these animals live for longer periods? It's not like evolution happened instantly.

Yes, 100 000 years ago they maybe didn't exist yet.

  • I couldn't understand what was being said and the narrotar was insanely awful. The real reason. People don't really know how to work with them right. Zebra's can be trained, it just takes an extremely paitent trainer.

  • Lol just have to say this horses are a girls best freind!!

  • lol

  • the reason is :::::they don `t like horse shoes.they don`t like to be touched on there feets

  • He's so right about cats. We are their slaves.

  • While the video was done well, I want people to do know it IS possible to ride and train zebras. I train zebras for riding, packing, and pulling carts. Key is to start when they are very young and to hire a zebra specific trainer as their temperments are different from horses. You don't want to get one that someone else has already screwed up on you. They are soooo loyal to their caregiver and well worth your time and investment in the long run. Choose your breeder/trainer wisely. Cheers.

  • haha lol the toys at 2:99 i collect dat brand lol i have that horse haha

  • Who says we can't tame the zebra? Just search for "Zorro the Zebra" and "Charlie the Zebra" in Youtube, you will find people training and riding zebras. It's completely idotic to say that zebras cannot be domesticated just because those who live next to the zebras couldn't or didn't want to do it.

  • Idiotic is right. Zebras can be tamed and ridden on when tamed right.. There's also two videos in the Related section showing a fully tamed Zebra being ridden.

  • It's not that they can't be domesticated, but they lack the general curiosity that is needed to be domesticated easily. It's just a bit harder to domesticate them though. People who put effort in to it should be able to. :)

  • its not all that but im not sure wat but sum thing of there body id diff to the horse and it hurts when pressure is on it but im not sure i was told this at the zoo like 3 yrs ago soo im not sure

  • This should be required video for many of the dunces who post... that demonstrate the mental capacity of a saltine cracker.

  • LOL! The only post on the page that made any sense! Thank you!

They are confusing "taming" one animal with producing a domesticated "species" of animal by trait selection, over tens, hundreds, thousands of years.

The humans of Africa since 12,000 years ago have actually been trying to domesticate their animals all this time, but almost none were suitable. This should not be so hard to comprehend. Think it over; 12,000 years, and the cow and two bird species were domesticated. Zebras bite!!!

  • well i know i leard something today
