@thefirstmable real, but they're Shaolin Training Blades (I think...) and are very thin and only cut when wielded in a very specific way. Sharp but Very Weak.

Understand the Wind and you can cut Steel with Air......Unify them and together they are swift and gentle and savage. That's how I describe this weapon.

By that logic, we should all sit on our asses, and never worry about learning fist-fighting. We should all just buy guns. Then we can become the living catastrophe that is America.

Oh, and yes, a single bullet WOULD kill ANY wushu player. But here's the thing. Any moron with a little time and money can learn how to use a gun. Wushu - that's real achievement.

i agree that hand to hand combat should be studied. i love it more than shooting my gun. i don't for a second believe that swinging a pair of tinfoil swords is a greater achievement than becoming proficient in modern self-defense tactics, including, but not limited to, the use of firearms. there is a reason you don't see wushu in MMA. that being said, i would LOVE to see a real shoalin monk enter the MMA circuit. i would like to see the monk win, really. MMA is getting arrogant.

@karatewannabe Agreed man. Contemporary wushu (a.k.a. people waving tinfoil swords) just makes me sad. Some people amongst the Chinese defend it, because it helped to make wushu in general more popular. But it's not worth sacrificing the self-defence application.

You can add in all the fitness, spirituality and self-cultivationt hat you want. But REAL martial arts comes back to being able to defend yourself. Contemporary wushu is the PRC's attempt to disarm their own people.

@karatewannabe I also agree with your view that studying modern self-defence tactics is a greater acheivement than contemporary wushu. And guns would be a necessary factor in real self-defence. Maybe not owning one, but knowing how to use it. And we don't all have to do traditional wushu either. Europe, the Middle East, the Americas, Africa and Russia all have developed excellent ways to stay alive in violent confrontations.

@noobsmoke1993 its a form and should be takn as such you wont use a from in a fight they are only to train you how to move your body naturaily and affectively, and to become use to whatever it is your pratcieing rather hand, foot, or weapon. The application is in the form, just not praticed in the form. and the openings in the front while useing two weapons is intentional. Kind of like an attempt to get one to attack the spots you want them to attack. Hit me up if you would like better answers

@schwullhund Uh, just saying, that wasn't bushido. Those swords weren't even remotely katana-esque, and the kid isn't a samurai. I don't deny that swords nowadays can be pretty useless, but the whole idea is discipline, which kids today are lacking.

Oh, and for the record, the cloths were used as distractions, not to look fancier. If you're not sure where exactly the sword is coming from (because, at those speeds, any movement is scary) then you're more likely to get hit.
