we have a rotary mower like that on the farm but its alittle bigger ... dont really use it anymore cuz we got a bigger bush hog, thinkin bout buying the smaller rotary mower off my grandpa
That is a nice utility tractor and bush hog, but I think you need one much larger for that area. One friend bought one that size and it didn't work for him, but I knew that. The only problem with my rig is that the John Deere people still ended up selling me a bush hog which was so heavy until when I picked it up and hit a bump the tractor front end would come off the ground. I had to put weights on the front to hold it down.
@semco72057 Of course I need a larger one!! Doesn't everybody? No, for our overall needs, this is the right size machine. I would really like to take a closer look at the 2320 or 2520 but this one is quite capable.
@ensoll As long as it does the job you should be satisfied with it. It did clean that area real good and that is what I have to do once the left over tree tops and logs are removed from our land.
Any trouble with the plastic transmission cooling fan? Several other 2305 owners say it is easy to break whenusing a rotary mower on the 3PH. I am going to look at a 2305 tomorrow to see this legendary fan for the first time before I sign to buy a 2305 myself. I guess it takes 5 hours labor to replace the fan.
The fan isn't nearly as exposed as the hydraulic oil filter but it is certainly exposed. These are the two single most moronic design features of the 2305. I scratch my head in amazement every time I look under there. Of comfort, I understand the competition has much the same issues.
I finally had a personal look at the fan last weekend at the JD dealer. I do not think it is as bad as some are making it out to be. There is a guard directly under and aft of the fan, but not in the front lower half. I think for every stick that makes it into that fan 10 sticks must scratch or scrape something else on the underbelly. I decided to order a 2305 because I cannot see taking it into the woods like that. If I did I would back up so the rotary mower cuts before reaching tractor.
Yep, that's what I try to do. If I have to mow in forward, I drag the bucket right on the ground to bend everything right over to the ground.
I have no regrets about choosing the 2305. I expect it will be around for a long time. My 318 was 20+ years old when I sold it and it's still going as far as I know. I take comfort in JD's heritage. When you look at the way these tractors are built, you can see the experience they have in the industry and have confidence in whatever you do with it.
@bill63304 That is a good idea so any damage will be limited to the bush hog rather than the tractor. Besides that, if you all are like me you don't want to receive all those scratches to your tractor by limbs if it can be avoided.
I think the Frontier also works as an egg mixer. Just kidding, I have no idea. I'm sure it's the same or better than the 413 since Frontier and John Deere are one and the same and the 413 is an older design.
For our 3.5 acres of mixed lawn and wooded land, I don't think I could have picked a better machine for all the tasks we have to tackle. The bucket is my most used attachment. I've been wanting to add a Markham Tooth Bar for a while but haven't yet been able to pull the trigger. It's a tough decision because the straight bucket edge is great most of the time. I don't know your situation, but I'm of the opinion of the more machines the better but I'd want a bucket on the 48hp tractor too!
How do like the loader on your tractor I'll bet its handy? I would love to have that type of setup on a smaller tractor. I have a 48 hp New Holland and I don't know if I want to put a loader on it or find a small tractor with a loader. Do you have a suggestion?
I bught a JD 4200 and want to use a mower like what you have, good to see how they work. thanks for the video
