@MrSigma i contradict your statement that mentioning Vikram's light skin is racist. It is merely describing him. In those days, royalty obviously had lighter skin then normal townspeople because royalty did not farm in the hot sun, nor did royalty spent their time outside selling merchandise. One should not take this statement too personally.
Some improvements are possible to the narration. Firstly, Vikramaditya's fair skinned shoul not have been mentioned as one of his good qualities as that sounds racist. Secondly, the word "Vetaal" means corpse and so the corpse would not say "My name is Vetaal" as that is like saying "My name is Corpse". Also, the reason why the king must answer Vetaal's question is not properly explained here. You may want to read "Chandamama" the story book to find out the reason.
It has absolutely NOTHING to do with race. It has to do with the fact that royalty did not spend time in the sun and thereofre had fair skin, as opposed to the peasants who had to work in the sun. So if anything it is "classist".
Not true, royal women were usually expected to be light skinned for staying indoors; but the kshatriya men were "rudra varna" red skinned--the statement is sexist-ically inaccurate at best--lol
What about the classic dialogue by the Vetaal "Tu Bolaa...To Mai Chalaa !" as shown on DD in the serial that used to be telecast at 5.15 pm on Sundays?
