I don't understand the explanation for depression given. If a person experiences a traumatic loss and falls into a depression, does that mean connections have weakened between the time of the loss and the onset of the depression? Or if the depression is intrinsic to the brain, then why does depression begin when it does? A weakened connection in the left hemisphere can't account for the presence of depression entirely. What about right hemisphere hyperactivation?
