So the Ford is the most engaging to drive, the Vauxhall is the best looking and the VW is the most well-rounded. I think there's no winner here because all three are amongst the top 5 best sellers in the UK.

All three cars have their good points but at the end of the day you have to decide which one you want to live with and for me the Astra's looks do it for me over the golfs slightly plain looks and the Fords busy angles.

I don't agree with the "dramatic" exterior on the focus, i love the new look on the new focus, it was the selling point for me.

What he didn't mention was what was under the bonnet, the focus would win that part hands down. It does FAR more MPG, it's good for the economy and it has a tonne of features that saves you fuel, for example when you are idle in traffic, the car shuts itself down until you are ready to take off again, love this feature!

Are you serious?!! I love the new focus. It has a personality now. the VW has looked the same way forever in a day. Interior boring. I didn't agree with this review. I will agree about the hard plastics on the door but the bit about the switches and the steering column is just ridiculous!!

In terms of driving ability the focus is not better the guy said is only a litter more conformable at higher speeds but the golf is overall more comfortable. It is better bild, you get more space, and it's nicer looking. This ford is so ugly.

For the price range Astra is the best solution.

I don't like any of them. Focus is well ugly, Golf plain dull and Astra boring. I've got a new Alfa Romeo Giulietta and it's the best by far. Sexy looks and best in class safety. I am Giulietta. :P

That's a very good new Focus, I just was surprised by the bad quality of the internal finishes, but IMO its not so important at all, but I'm crazy for this Astra, it's just pretty good looking. The most awesome design!

Weird a lot of people have said that this 3rd gen Focus fails to live up to the previous cars. This is the first review I've seen where the roadtester has praised the driving dynamics.

With the exception of UK Autocar and Topgear, all other reviews give the thumbs up for the Focus' driving dynamics. UK Autocar recently changed its mind after drving the 1.6 ecoboost version on UK roads, and has reinstated the Focus to top spot.
