Interesting; I run 64-bit Debian and Firefox 4.0 (64-bit home-build). I just checked my add-ons and it said that I was running Flash 10.3. So apparently Debian knows something we don't...
@99RcM8 well, "10.3" on 64-bit is actually 10.2, because they had named the 64-bit square release "10.2" before releasing it, something like that, if I remember correctly.
I like the interaction part. Not a whole lot of ppl speak nix now-a-days. But terminal FTW!! Great job on the video and very well narrated and it's very easy to go through. Wish you were around when I first was starting Linux/Unix! To bad though that it's a file and not a package...if it were a package, we (the 64bit cool kids) could have did a force install through dpkg. Oh well my flash is rigged up nicely on my 64bit machine :P Anyways very, very good video Jordan! Thanks!
@america0014 well, even if it were a package, it would probably still just be copying the libflashplayer.so file out there for you, and it's not designed to work natively on 64-bit.
@thisweekinlinux Yeah, the flash package I'm using is only natively suppose to work on a 32. But some force installiing and creating a addititional file in the /etc/ seems to work awesomely. I'm happy
Jordan, the way that I personally do it is to untar the flash package into a dir like /opt/flash. Then, I delete the existing symlink from /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins and make a symlink to /opt/flash/libflashplugin.so. I also delete the /usr/lib/firefox/plugins dir and make a symlink to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins. The results of the way I do it is that chromium, opera and firefox all use it.
and Btw, i have this computer that has a 10GB HDD and 128MB ram, i was thinking of installing Bohdi Linux on it, is it a good idea? And the Original OS is Windows 2K, and doesnt read wifi without a PCMCIA card, but i need one compatable with apparently Ubuntu since thats what Bohdi is built on
I don't understand why Adobe has this hatred for 64 bit linux ? is n't it always that 64 bit linux users are redirected to some other page for downloads ?
@NetraAmorosi you should have been able to already, you just needed to go to the Adobe site and change your security settings. I meant to make a video about that a LONG time ago, but never did.
@thisweekinlinux Actually Secuirty is set to always allow but my privacy options and options dealing with webcam are greyed out, it works fine for skype, in UVC and Cheese, but don't won't work for websites at all...even if its microphone will...
@NetraAmorosi With 10.2 and earlier, I just googled "flash website privacy", went to the first link (it's a page on Adobe's site) found the site I was trying to work with, and set it to "always allow", then click on the "website storage settings" panel, find the site you're looking for,a nd give it Unlimited storage.
@thisweekinlinux Didn't work, webcam is still not responding for the website. And the three privacy options are still greyed out and won't hold any selections.
@thisweekinlinux hi Jordan, I too be using stickam with cam for a long time now, but is there any app that will let you use your cam on yahoo? i know i tried a few things but nothing worked too good with cam support and chat rooms. What's your suggestion?
@larasa007 I've never actually tried to do that, so I'm not sure. I remember someone mentioning an app called Gyache or Gyachi, something like that, before.
@emiel1976ep If you open Chrome, type "about:plugins" in the URL bar, then click "Details on the right, it will show you where it's installed. I just checked my Chromium at home, and it shows it's in the mozilla directory, but not in the home folder. It's possible if you don't have flashplayer installed already and you follow these instructions, it might just work for you, but Chrome is supposed to come with flash in it now, so I'm not sure.
Not too many people seem to notice the danger of the "Media Measurement" "feature". Watch out kiddies, mommy might find out you've been watching pr0n.
@thisweekinlinux Yes, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do a video on it. I saw arthursuck's video on it a while back. He lost me. Plus all the settings looked different on my Kdenlive. I don't know if he was using a different version or what.
Isn't it possible to install Adobe Flash on a 64 bit system with nspluginwrapper?
I really hope that webm will be replacing Adobe Flash as soon as possible. Adobe Flash is just plain crap, a.k.a 'crashware'. 9/10 times I have to refresh the page in order to see the video (10.2 64 bit).
Just a tip: it is good to promote your channel/website, but do not overdo it.
@LordBas2 yeah, that might work as well (nspluginwrapper).
I do understand not to overdo the promotion. I've done this for over a year now, and this is one of the few times I've even mentioned thumbs up/favorite/subscribe. I put it at the end, but most people click off before that.
I installed Flash 10.3 before this video, but thanks for helping me with the "usr" directory! 10.3 is a little buggy and crashes still, but not as often as 10.2.
@pCole951 the native panel is actually the answer to a lot of peoples' questions. I don't know how many times I've been asked how I got my webcam/mic working for live streaming.
@thisweekinlinux I meant Peppy, heheheh. It's the goatee, man. It reminds me of Peppy's avatar from Star Fox. No offense intended. It's technically a compliment since Peppy's awesome.

@mehine2 just got a chance to watch it. The 64-bit version is called 10.3, but it's not the same, sadly. From reading Adobe's site, it sounds like two different branches:
"Flash Player 10.3 will not have 64-bit support. Support for 64-bit operating systems and web browsers on Linux, Mac OS, and Windows is currently available in the Flash Player "Square" preview release on Adobe Labs."
@dkbe1983 I've thought about it, but never nailed anything down. There are a few people locally I'd love to bring on camera with me, but I live so far away from most of my friends, and everyone has kids/jobs/etc., so it's just difficult to arrange.
I've opted for third option. Not to install it at all. :) Just got a new laptop yesterday and decided to try and use it without Flash and other stuff.
I have a little tip for you.. when you do stuff like create a directory and then you need to put something in that directory you can do 'it like this :
mkdir ~/.mozilla/plugins
co libflashplayer.so $_
and that will take the last variable that you used in the terminal with is the directory that you created. And this will help you type faster in the terminal.
@sephirothsoul999 64-bit Linux users want a new flash, not just Ubuntu. :P (I'm an Arch guy, and I'd love a newer version with some nice newer features)
@thisweekinlinux It's a LOT smoother that 10.2.xxx, no crashes at all... all much more faster. I didn't install the preferences interfate tho.. don't need it and i don't want troubles hehe :D
Does this one support h.264 acceleration on the netbooks with gma500? I recall the flash didn't have any sort of gpu acceleration for linux... ? Anyone?
@wolvee123 not sure where this intro came from. I was going to put a date on it, but I ended up recording the video twice, on two separate dates, so the second time I decided to just drop the date and introduce myself. I think some part of me did remember someone mentioning it in a comment.

hey having a problem with the install.
when i try to delete the original outdated libflashplayer.so file it tells me i do not have the permisions to do so as im not the owner :(
how can i change permisions on this folder to allow me to delete this file?
its located in the /usr/lib/flash-plugin folder if that makes it easier to make a terminal code, thanksssss, im too stupid for this :(
