  • We have a competent performer, who lets the music flow through his finger tips. There is playing the piano, which I can do, and playing like this, which very few can do. This pianist has worked with Rachmaninoff to give us one the top ten performances on Youtube. I always say that listening on Youtube never beats being in the audience, but this even on Youtube is as close to perfect as anyone could get.

  • @IamsGamer "This pianist has worked with Rachmaninoff"? That's a supremely ridiculous comment, this pianist has no connection to Rachmaninoff neither does he perform even remotely like Rachmaninoff.

  • @sammarco02 What I am saying is the pianist in question has taken one of the best pieces ever composed and made it his own. Of course, if you didn't like the performance then that is fine; all you have to do is state that you didn't like it, not complain to me about it.

  • passion, fire, musicality = Lugansky

  • please lugansky arrive in georgiaaa

  • even as a girl I wouldn't mind having his hands...

  • Wonderful playing!

  • simply fantastic.

  • So did he really learn all of Rachs 3rd in 3 days?

  • @Theonedue altamusica. com/entretiens/document.php?action=MoreDocument&DocRef=295&DossierRef=183

  • Nice.

  • @Theonedue Absolutely, he was playing Rach 2 before he could walk or talk XDXDXD

  • Из всех записей этого произведения,выставленных на ютуби, считаю игру Луганского лучшей. Его исполнение отличается пианистической свободой, виртуозностью и вдохновением.

  • so beautifully played

  • I'm a girl and i wouldn't mind having his hands even if they wouldn't match.

  • Kudos to the crowd for the instant applause--I couldn't have timed it better myself.

  • i didn't like lugansky's prokofiev romeo and juliet dance of the knights, it lacked the necessary emotion which kissin portrays so beautifully.

however, like what's-his-face is the master of chopin, i have concluded that lugansky is the master of rachmaninov!

  • I think that 55 people either hit the wrong button, or they are simply deaf.

  • hmm... isn't the audience sitting on the wrong side of the piano...?

  • @tt0454841 that's the 55 people who disliked

  • @tt0454841 Circular hall.

  • Why are the claps so long comapred to the song D:

  • I saw him in a little concert in France ... this man is fantastic !

  • Espetacular!

  • Found it after 4 years of searching...

  • Oh my God... It's totally unbelievable...

  • O___o omg look at his left hand! :O

    this is amazing!

  • absolutely positively amazing with acherry on top

  • DAAAAAAAAAMN!!!!! this is dope

  • Mind blown.

  • such stamina ......

  • One of many reasons why I love Lugansky is his lack of theatricality like Lang's or Kissin's. Unfortunately, that is exactly why he seems so cold and distant and people are not so crazy about him, but his performance is brilliant. I've seen him many times performing live and those experiences were highlights of my musical life.

  • So why doesn't youtube put in a repeat button?

  • would you be my man?

  • 12v engine in each hand..

  • IMPECABLE!!

  • Bravo! Absolutely exquisite!!

  • You are ABNORMAL ! .. I Love you`re Playing

  • Is this piece as hard as it looks/sounds? I have the original score and it looks scary...

  • @samtheman264

It would depend on what you consider difficult about the piece itself. For me, I find that the speed at which you must play the notes along with the considerable amount of stamina needed at this speed makes playing this piece truly difficult. A masterful control over your arm weight will facilitate practice and interpretation. Try the piece out; see how it works out for you.

  • near perfection! wow

  • This guy played a beethoven sonata by ear when he heard a relative play at the age of 5, before he was taught how to play the piano...

  • jesus.

  • Polish Pride! ;)

  • @Chrisjuchniewicz Uh....I'm really sad that there isn't any Koreans. Why there in the world isn't a famous pianist in Korea? I know a famous person is not easy to be made, but your country is lucky though......

  • @Chrisjuchniewicz RUSSIAN pride!!!!!!!!!! ;)

  • @Axotrotl The funny thing is that I'm half Russian. :)

  • if putin could only play the piano....

  • @lotorobly putin is best in everything like kim jong il :D

  • God was with you Nikolai ...

  • Look at how he looks up at the ceiling...

  • Great Lugansky, the best interpretation.

  • Oh, I love it on HD! It is the best "Moment Musicaux No. 4" performance ever!

  • @gsarci2011 HD, it only goes to 480?

  • @theecollective11 sorry, it looked like it

  • @gsarci2011 Np :)

  • il ragazzo studia... e anche bene!

  • He must listen to how Moiseiwitsch and Jung Lin perform Moment 4 with lyrical expression and melodic structure, also with "pulsing dynamics" like a heart beat. In my humble opinion, that is how Rach intended MM4 to be performed :-) Lugansky's rendition lacks those qualities, but it is a good performance :-)

  • search "Ballade of the stars" and click on first video that comes up. I hope it moves you in some way

  • Nikolai Lugansky once needed to type up his 20,000 word dissertation in 15 minutes. He spent 14 minutes of that time making a bacon sandwich and still made the deadline. FACT

  • @d517q7 Wow. That was hilarious. Very good. It was also a clean joke, which means I like it all the more.

  • @d517q7 It is completely valid that it took him fourteen minutes to make a sandwich cause it was 20 layers high.

  • @d517q7 Ahahahahahhahhaha you made my day! Anyway, I LLLLOOOOVE Lugansky!

  • @d517q7 He took 14 minutes to make a sandwich? I suppose. The rest of the time was spent drumming his fingers deciding what to put on it.

  • @d517q7 and the 59 seconds eating the sandwich. rest is typing. lol

  • @d517q7 However, a pencil was required ))))

  • Luganskys MM4 is the very best! its technically perfect and musically brilliant! whoever is saying its too cold has mushy ears there is not one harsh tone throughout the whole piece. and you can even here the sotto voce, where most ppl make mud out of the left hand, Lugansky gives it a voice. im looking for Ashkenazys performance, the only pianist who i think musically can compete with this interpretation

  • Excelent ! He playes great : X

  • BRAVOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • GOOOOOOOOOOD><<<<BRAVO

  • the best piece of all the musical moments!! ;)

  • O well, another lost one...

  • How can this have a dislike button :@:@:@

  • wow

  • clean and lyrical... u can actually see his finger muscles work together

  • ily

  • I graduated AMEB to concert performance, have a record, Cassette and CD collection spanning over 75,000 performances, have been a constant concert-goer, and speak with at least I hope some authority...Whilst this version is very good (esp in a concert performance), I am not convinced that it is akin to the other live performances I have witnessed.

  • @s1earle omg we get it, ur good wih music, now shut up and actually listen to it for once.

  • @xavierulzok No comment unless you also have vast experience with music performances; Do you play the piano? Read scores? or just listen as all critics seem to do and complain aimlessly! Why was Liszt shunned by Hanslick, when posterity seems to have provided the right answers?

  • @s1earle **sighs** yes, I play the piano. and cello. and violin. all I'm saying is that I think you need to wash all the tech out of your head temporarily and listen to the music as music, not a set of comparisons :)

  • @xavierulzok Your label picture seems to show it all - pls get a life away from dreamworld.

  • @xavierulzok Only proves my suggested point that history shows those who play 3 instruments make for one Stooge...

  • @s1earle charming. Do you always revert to insults when you can't think of anything else to say? Anyway, I'm ending this. This is a YouTube video, not a boxing ring.

  • He really easily plays such a difficult masterpiece, I admire this, however it is too technical play, cold, has a different emotion, far awayness..

  • Lugansky like Kissin is a keyboard titan, however I have say his tone control is more subtle than the latters.

  • This is incredulous.

  • Lugansky: Amazing as usual: more suddle with the chaos at 0:02, great transition at 0:50, the sf at 1:00, great chromatics at 1:42, and you gotta love the signature hand throw at 2:37 of Lugansky! 6/5

  • You are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G-!!!

I just love hearing you play!

  • @Theonedue Rach never played this piece dude. Since you bring Rach up, this pianist could have used ten years of studying with Rach.

  • Very akin to the playing of Michael Ponti however this version lacks the last ounce of polish.

  • @s1earle

    But it's Russian music...

  • Comment removed

  • @s1earle I disagree, this is by far the most crisp and bearable version.

  • @s1earle I totally agree, not just polish this lacks everything

  • wow!!!

  • 49 people just have tiny hands...

  • Truly a leet performance!

  • nothing to say... all to listen...great

  • YES. I must go find my sweatshirt.

  • That was a master performance.......excellent!

  • in soviet russia piano play you

i bet youv never played a piano in your life you fag

    nice fake dog

  • just awesome, thx

  • Melody Win! To many people take the melody for granted and overpower a piece with bass; Nikolai plays beautifully!

  • Fantastic performer. I don't know if being Russian helps, but it obviously doesn't hurt. Incredible.

  • ... marry me? ...

  • And then, someone farted.......... really, really loud.. :D

  • @jeffjeff2955

    Definitely.

  • Lugansky is if not my favorite pianist out there, one of my favorites. His expertise is unquestionable! And my admiration to his humility while he plays. He serves the composer, the instrument, THE MUSIC and dissapears in this nebula of delight. Its sounds pure and without pretentions on his behalf. Bravo Lugansky. You are definetly HOT! Not of this world!

  • lugansky, horowitz, and kissin are perfect examples for proving that the russians are the best when it comes to classical.

  • wow it's like a rachmaninov take on that famous chopin etude! :D. well played :)

  • one of my favourite piano pieces, just since yesterday!

  • @ann03071874 I already am!!

  • he is awesome!!!

  • 48 people are deaf

  • me2

  • I'm speechless.

  • Luganskys Great

  • Well, there sure is a plethora of opinions here! :)

I think it was really awesome! =)

  • how can anyone criticize this? I don't get it.

  • @Veyhh Funny guy, you sound like you think you know me. I've accomplished plenty, and the mistake is very obvious (you can even see a few audience members react to it). Train your ears a little more, come back in a few years, and then tell me what I can or cannot discern as a mistake.

  • Comment removed

  • @Tesaros Actually it's pretty good given his performing style, strict to the sheet music, very much in line with the russian school. Some like that, I don't and I agree there is no expression here. I recommend Jung Lin's version if you want to hear expression, and Rach as it should be played.

  • Comment removed

  • @Veyhh Rach's Russian but no connection to Lugansky lol. Rach, VH, all who could left after the marxist revolution, went U.S./Europe. After that you have the state approved soviet style: no individuality, artistry and expression allowed, all had to play same utilitarian way. That's what you get with russian school now, but all great pianists. Jung Lin was trained at Juilliard, she' basically American, plays Rach with great expression and artistry, a lot closer to how Rach plays Rach :D

  • Fearsome, deep, beautiful...

  • Wonderful my favo/urite Piece

  • amazing. this is by far my favourite recording of this piece that I have heard yet.

it sounds like he hits a wrong key somewhere around 2:14, but it's really not a big deal. the whole performance was just fantastic.

  • @246trinitrotoluene why would you even point that out?

  • @anonymousQ45

i don't know.. didn't you listen to it too?

regardless, he's an amazing player and by far one of my fav pianists -- especially when i look for rachmaninov performances

  • i had the privilege to hear him perform live last week, and i just have to confirm (along with this clip) that he is easily amongst the best three living pianist in the world right now and brings back the newness, sincerity, clarity, and brevity to everything he plays.

what made it all the sweetest is that he is also such a kind person too, and took the time after the recital to talk to each and every person who went to him and answered any and all questions. my hero!

  • @TheDubya69

Gisteren ook gezien in het concertgebouw? Geweldig recital was het he. :-)

  • @MoonTribe

  • Very pure, simple, and extremely beautiful!

  • Very pure, simple, and extremely beautiful!

  • The best piano interpretation I've ever listened to. And I've listened to quite a lot :)

Amazing pianist, amazing control and synchronization of the hands.

When you see him you understand the difference between playing the piano and be a Pianist.

    He is THE Pianist.

  • Wonderful Rachmaniniv's performance!
