I understand there is now a street named after HMS Daring in recognition of the assistance provided by the ship's crew

I hope the people of Kefalonia never have to suffer such a tragic and aweful event ever again.

Was just chatting to my parents about the earthquake. They were newly married when my father went on a tour of duty with the Royal Navy. He joined my uncle on HMS Daring at Malta when the earthquake hit, Daring was diverted immediately to assist in the relief operation.

Dad took part in the resue parties carrying victims on stretchers over the devastated landscape back to the medical base.

i am from kefallonia. the man in the truck with the sigarre at 0.44 is my grandfather!! the father of my mum. i have never met him because he died before i was born. now i see him in this British doc. you can imagine my feelings.His name is GIANNIS MINETOS and my mother recognized him.

I was born in kardakata kefalonia April 3rd 1953, the rock house that my family live drop down in a moments time, I was four months old baby inside this house that was destroy by the earthquake 7.4 ricter scale, some how day later my family dug on through the roubles and find me untouched. I was under the protection of my Angel!

Γενυθεικα το 55 μετα απο τετεια καταστροφη. ειχαν βοηθησει οι Αγγλοι κτλ και ειχαν κτησει καινουριο χωριο.

Γενηθεικα στο παλιο χωριο και μειναμε εκει μεχρι ειμουν 4χρν και ομως συνελληνες μου μεχρι το 67 που με εφεραν οι γονεις μου Αμερικη αυτα τα πρωτα χρονια ειταν τα καλυτερα χρονια της ζωης μου.......

Είδα ένα ντοκιμαντέρ πέρσι της ΕΡΤ, που σχετιζόταν με τους σεισμούς του 1953 στην Κεφαλονιά, και συγκλονίστηκα πολύ!
