Why oh why isn't there still music like this? this defines my adolescence! Thank you Au Pairs for providing me with some decent music to listen to in the 1980s
Saw them once in a club wher I worked at that time, must have been round '81 or '82, and I was totaly mesmerised! They where really something else, and I remember their performance that night up to till today. Ofcourse I totally fell in love with the lead singer on the spot; what a powerfull woman with such great presence! Great music, lost the LP sometime ago, thanks a bunch for putting it up here, and bringing back sweet memories!
My pleasure ! There's a handful more Au Pairs songs amongst my uploads if you're prepared to search through them. Including "It's Obvious" from vinyl and not CD, so it plays at the correct speed ! And including a few crackles for nostalgia's sake...
Another one ! The amount of comments I get saying that makes it seem like he's teaching half of Birmingham ! And most of them add that he's a good teacher.
If you get a chance, please tell Paul I saw the Au Pairs play at the Aberdeen students union in 1981, and they were great !
Wow, that takes me back. I saw them live a couple of times in the early 80's too. What a band. I think they may have been supporting the B52's if my memory serves me well. I was too off my head to remember much but I love that bass player.
You are so lucky! :D One of my first full length records as a teener was Playing With A Different Sex. It was such a big deal too cuz it was an Import. ;D ah, I was ahead of the pack if you ask me lol.
They were in the middle of the bill and played for about 25-30 minutes. I was thinking that after 30 years it would be so nice to see all of the Urrrrgghhh! footage, not just of the Au Pairs but some of the other acts too...strange how it hasn't 'leaked', but then again Copeland is a tight ****! Thanks for the tip about the other clips too.
I was fortunate enough to see the band several times in the early 80's, were always totally electrifyihg live....seems like there's no chance of a re-union but it would great to see some more footage of them other than the 'Urrgh!' clip (I was at that gig, went there to see THEM not Echo or U2!).
Well as I've pointed out before, I saw them at Aberdeen in 1981, and can only completely agree with you !
How many songs did the Au Pairs play at "Urrgh!"? Because I heard a rumour that they were sorting out all the copyright issues (some Copeland guy) and that they might be releasing the rest of URRGHHHHHH !! Haha, who thought up that title ? Well let's hope so anyway.
There is another couple of clips, not as good, if you're prepared to hunt through my "favourites" for them.
Oh my god the guitarist Paul Foad teaches jazz at my college, infact I'll see him on thursday wow I cant wait to ask him about this lol, and I thought he just played jazz all the time.
Really? Please pass on my regards, my name is Adrian Doyle from Birmingham. I was making a rockumentary about them in the 80's. Ask Paul if he remembers splitting his finger open on the strings. Blood everywhere, very punk.
oh praise be for the wonders of you tube.thats me far right on the photo with the lopsided grin while everyone else is looking moody!!things were so cool between us then.keep the faith mother****ers.
You're kidding?! You must be the drummer Pete Hammond right? I've watched that "Urgh, A Music War" clip many a time, it seems to be the only video clip there is of "The Au Pairs". And I saw you play at Aberdeen students union in 1981, and very good you all were too. That and hearing you on John Peel inspired me to buy "Playing With A different Sex", I've still got it somewhere. I just bought the "Anthology" CD, which is where this clip came from, and the picture came from the internet somewhere.

Well as you can see, you're not the first person to say that. And I've seen other comments to that effect on other clips.
And someone I know from Birmingham knows him a bit and said so as well.

Ran out of "characters"! I was wondering if you actually get any receipts from CD sales, or does it all get snatched by record companies?
And I am keeping the faith mother****er !!

Hell of a drummer. Loved you guys live. Amazing band! Wish there was footage other than that Urgh clip...wahh.
