just a pointer you can find small bats in fishing stores specifically directed to knocking a fish out

these cobia, especially larger ones, get pretty mad when you gaff them and they are known to destory the insides of boats, bruise people, even break peoples legs or ankles

get a small bat, they arent to expensive and it will save you a ton of trouble should you catch a large cobia

Halibut and Cobia man, kill them before they get in the boat. They'll flop around and give you nasty bruises if they hit you.

Interesting approach at handling a Cobia. My 16 year old son and I usually just tag them and pull them back overboard by the tail section. Nice fish anyways.

A big cobe can tear up a boat by thrashing around, they are SUPER strong. I would have done the same thing with the bat for safety.
