@matthewlane1991 Not only development and the loss of a centralized pawn but also the pieceplacement and future attacking possibilities can be a reason to gambit a pawn. Black can easily overextend on the queenside wich pawns can be subject for attack later on. Also in the catalan you see black is placing his pawns on white squares wich means that the black squares become weak and easy to exploit
Why not win it back with Nd2 to Nxc4 before Qa4+(positionally speaking).
