  • All I remembered about this shot was that Barkley was really late to rotate on this shot. What I didn't see back in 1997, though, was that Karl Malone was pretty much doing his best Anthony Munoz impression.

  • malone held him, jordan pushed off, whatever! they're all great plays.

  • Comment removed

  • OK. Given that Malone gave that moving screen... and yes, a referee would never call that with 2.8 seconds in the game... give credit where credit is due...

    Stockton knocking out that shot...

Remember when Reggie Miller pushed Jordan so hard, he became open and got the winning 3 point shot in the Pacers-Bulls playoffs? They could have called an offensive foul on Miller, but they let it slide... because why ruin the outcome of the game with a call. So, props for drilling the three... :)

  • was that really the play??? or was it a broken play????

  • I remember watching this as a kid as it happened. This left a bad taste in my mouth but it was a wide open shot.

  • This shows me why the moving screen is a penalty.

  • @dtruth07 Yeah I remember reading after the game, Drexler complaining about Malones moving screen. He also suggested Malone grabbed him, on the replay he is right. Barkley was slow on the switch though. Despite that, I am still in favor of the players decideing the game not the refs, so I think I will let this pass.

Barkley after the game called John Stockton one of the five top players he ever played against.

  • ima laker fan ....and i remember the jazz beating us 4-1 in the semis....at that time i was 8 years old...but i remember watching this game live and this was probably one of the most amazing plays that i can never forget...this 3 point shot that sent jazz to finals for first time is very underrated

  • Awful refereeing, but Barkley's read of the play was turrible too

  • LOL look at malone setting that screen more like a hold

  • To the idiots who don't realize why John Stockton was open, Charles Barkley was always a mediocre defender. There's your answer now Shutup!

  • I still dont understand why the hell he leave JOHN STOCKTON open! Everybody know that mutha fucka is the truth behind the arch.

  • Amazing

  • "uh oh" is right

    Stockton best PG ever

  • Walton: "Uh-oh.."

  • It amazing still, to see Stockton play.. oh how I dig his style!

  • 3 words: FUCK THE JAZZ!!!! Rockets for life!

  • @homeboi12 YESSSSS!!!!!!!!!!

    Rockets 2 titles - Jazz 0 hahahahaha

  • Too bad the Jazz will never make the playoffs again... NOT

  • Looking at this game, I am wondering how the hell did you leave John Stockton that wide open. Are you serious?

  • @jfliguy Because Kark Malone set the most egregious moving screen in the history of the game.

  • @jryan1971 To call that a moving screen is selling it short. He just grabbed the guy and ran. If he'd gone 10 more feet it would have legally counted as a kidnapping.

  • @Gettles lol

  • @jfliguy You have a guy like Karl Malone blocking guys out to make sure you're open ;) Gotta give Karl some credit.

  • @chalkmaze I never looked at the moving screen until now. WOW!!!! THank you for pointing that out

  • @jfliguy Watch the play, and it's not that hard to understand ha. They messed with em

  • @jfliguy They didn't leave him open, if you look closely Malone HELD Drexler during that out of bounds play they ran. So Drexler couldn't get to him and Barkley couldn't switch off Malone in time.

  • Seadale Threatt was totally bearhugged by Malone at the end. Always thought he was cheap, but that cemented it for me.

  • Byron Russell at 0:24 #Winning

  • 13 people are Rockets fans.

  • @zr1drifter You fail, WTB original comment!

  • Jazz fan or not, that's a pretty amazing moment in the NBA if you ask me.

  • Should have beat Chicago that year, outplayed them, and outscored them if you add up all game totals. But Malone choked and MJ didn't.

  • My #1 greatest moment in sports history.

  • Man the Jazz were great with all those championships they won. What an amazing organization Jerry Sloan and John Stockton and Karl Malone were winners!

  • @spaceagejungle lol stfu.

  • @spaceagejungle youre a faggot

  • Man did I hate that Jazz team as a Rockets fan but they were insanely good and against the Rockets they were just unstoppable.

  • HAHA Right when Stockton gets it... "UH OH..."

  • its funny the announcers like "uhh Oh " once stockton gets it...

  • 0:23 nerdgasm

  • one of the best moments of my entire life

  • Spam click this -> 0:22

    lol...

  • @SneakFreakOG lmfao

  • the nba will never see another pg like him. he wasnt flashy, he is a quiet player, yet he kicked your ass when game time arrived. definitely deserves to be nba top 50 and a hall of famer.

  • hes both.

  • One of the few times Jerry Sloan has actually smiled xD

I feel bad for sloan.. he's probably the hardest working coach in the NBA and he's never won a title.

  • @21ollej or a coach of the year like come on really

  • @Flubababaxboxgt Yeah it's ridiculous. I really hate David Stern, the NBA was fun to watch until he came along and became all greedy

  • @21ollej He did everything but win a NBA title. Always got the most out of his players.

  • @ACORNSUCKS Indeed

  • fucking bull shit moving screen

  • THAT'S how you silence a crowd

  • lol, did Greg Gumbel lost his voice at the time? :D

  • offensive foul on karl malone please?

  • Karl Malone couldn't even have been described as playing basketball on that screen...he was freaking blocking for his quarterback..classic Malone

  • that was the coolest

  • @JLDG4 Do I have to be a fan of every team whose You Tube video I click on? Hell, maybe I'm a Rockets fan?! Come on man, how dumb is that?! The fact is the truth hurts: led by Karl Malone, the Jazz choked repeatedly in the playoffs. Don't fret though, there are others in sports history that couldn't ever get it done when it mattered most. Examples include Warren Moon, the Buffalo Bills, the Sacramento Kings, the over rated Donovan McNabb. See, you're not alone. Nice shot by Stockton tho.

  • TIMELESS CLASSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the announcer apparently was going through puberty

  • lol @ Karl Malone being labeled a class act... revisionist history.

  • i couldn't stop crying and banging the floor after this shot

  • Fu*k the Utah Jazz. You don't win the Finals because you "deserve" it, or are "class acts". You win the Finals by earning the victory... four of them, to be exact.

Who can forget the choke job by Karl Malone in Game 6 in 1998, up 1, WITH THE BALL, and less than 30 seconds left. He gets the ball STOLEN? On his own end of the court? From behind?! What about the year before, at the line in Chicago. Two free throws to ice the game. Misses BOTH! Dude was a choke. That's why they have no rings

  • @blakecpa Man, Shut up....No need to hate on the jazz just because of that....Its really quite pathetic really. YOU clicked on the video, then YOU talk crap.....If ANYONE deserved a title, it would be them, mostly john stockton. The man will go down as one of THE greatest point guards of all time.

  • The Best shot in Jazz History!

  • O man John Stockton gets a good look like that he's gonna knock that shot down all day long. If John Stockton gets stopped one way he'll eventually find another way to score, that's the kind player he is. John Stockton was quick and illusive as hell. Mark Price was same way when he playing. They both had similar playing styles.

  • Hahahaha "Stockton, open three...HEEYAA!!!"

  • @dixonmixin10 it was a Howard Dean moment "Stockton three... BYAHAHAHAH!??!??"

  • The best in Bill Walton's " Ah, Oh" ...sorry Bill

  • byaah!

  • Houston hasn't been this far since...

  • @Aggiesalltheway have fun hanging up division banners...

  • @Aggiesalltheway ZERO championships.... lol

  • What hurts more about this loss was the fact the Rockets blew something like a 10 point lead in the last 3 minutes of the game.

  • My favorite team but they're not winning a championship until Phil Jackson retires. He's the only one that beats them all the time

  • this moment is the peak of success in the Utah Jazz franchise.. lol at that pathetic team..

  • I think refs close their eyes at the end of games Karl Malone set the biggest moving screen ever to free up stockton

  • @estlouisfinest1 It's not a moving screen when there is no one coming around the screening man. Stockton was behind Malone. Stockton went in one direction from the very first of their motions when Drexler went the opposite way. Not only that, during the movement between Drexler and Malone, Drexler was pushing on Malone. Watch Drexler's feet.

  • @estlouisfinest1 lolllllll i watched it again ..... and your right! damn near reached half court haha

  • Greg Gumbel sounded like Howard Dean with that scream Yaaah!!!

  • I was at this game in Houston. I pulled up this video to show my son the most blatant moving screen that I have ever witnessed. Antoine Carr should have gotten 5 years with no parole for that illegal screen. I was looking forward to a Houston vs. Chicago final, so the Bulls could show the Rockets that the ONLY reason the Rockets got those back-to back championships was because Jordan wasn't in the L for those two years. Stockton ended that dream (no pun intended).

  • @lbkildee Well said man...I would have loved to see bulls v. rockets, jordan would've "8-peated" if he didn't take the year and half off...and I never noticed that moving screen. That was a moving screen from hell!

  • bgd0022........yeah right. Jordan could never own the Rox, he lost to a team that Hakeem`s Rockets beat.

  • lbkildee......more revisionist history. Jordan was IN THE LEAGUE when Hakeem led the Rockets to a title. And that ``rust`` excuse doesn`t cut it given that he averaged his career postseason numbers in the 95 playoffs and still lost. Hakeem played the greatest postseason any player has ever played in 95. Jordan should be thankful Rodman (who Hakeem embarrassed the year earlier causing him to run to CHI) was there to chase down his horrid shooting in the `96 Finals.

  • Holding. On the offense. 10 yard penalty. Repeat play.

  • The last time Jerry Sloan had a smile caught on camera

  • My favorite moment as a Utah Jazz fan.

  • Best era of basketball! the 90's were legit

  • LOL DID ANYONE ELSE see that gigantic moving screen by Antoine Carr? This was a nice shot btw

  • The announcer said "UH-OH". He knew what was about to happen....

  • @westxlcr pretty obvious when a 3-pointshooter is that open :P

  • Right after Houston redeemed theirselves against Seattle in dat previous series, Utah redeemed theirselves against Houston.

  • wow...moving screen much???

  • @jimvols everyone was busy looking at stockton

  • When I was in Houston, this guy on my job was arguing with me all day and all night about the Jazz making illegal picks throughout that series.

The Rockets just got beat. Straight Up.

  • love Greg Gumbal's call on this!!

  • @apssoftware

    "Stockton, open, three.... HEA-YEAHS!"

  • Wow...Nice moving screen by Antoine Carr to basically run block Clyde out of the picture to get Stockton open

  • I was gonna say the exact same thing. Nobody ever brings that up, but that's a call that HAS to be made. He literally grabbed him and dragged him to midcourt.

With that said, this happend 13 years ago, so I think it's time for me to finally move on. Haha

  • Freakin amazing[:

  • this was at 3:3 ???

  • I still feel very bad that John and Karl never won a title.

  • @moeq8iprince I feel bad for John, but not for Karl. Karl tried to go get a cheap ring on a stacked Laker team with Gary Payton. John retired like a man.

  • @moeq8iprince i know....and jordan has 6....greedy mudda fucka :X

  • Yeah im a Rocket fan too, John Stockton is my favorite point guard, yeah shit hurt me when that happened in 97. But oh well the best team and the smartest team won, that including Stockton. But for some reason I think the Barkley trade was the reason we lost this series. If we had Cassel and Horry (who fit in well on Tomjanovich's system) would've won this series. But I still think that would be impossible. Stockton was really good that season.

  • @Trackball816 classacts? lol hell nah they were dirty lil players man, especiall karl.. they were great but Im a Rockets fan thru and thru so F the jazz man

  • @tony2crunk Ehhh.....Malone was kinda dirty with all those elbows flyin around lol, but STOCKTON = DIRTY?........You better share whatchu been smokin cause heart and relentless defense doesn't make him dirty.

    -

I mean, he's 6-1. For barely being over 6 foot, he BETTER poke, jab, swat, and flop as often as he can ON TOP OF shooting a high % and sneaking passes into the tightest of places in order to survive.....Or in his case, set records in the NBA.

  • @Trackball816 you dont deserve you earn...

  • @jagexfailshard Those 2 Did everything they could to earn one but they just didnt have any one else around them or anyone off the bench to help out either what a shame

  • @Trackball816 You think Malone is a class act? He got a damn 13 year old girl pregnant!!

  • Comment removed

  • @pk4062 how come he didn't go to jail

  • @Trackball816 yeah to bad the jazz fell to my team

  • @Trackball816 Lets be real here for a second. How is Karl Malone a class act? Dude was a seriously dirty player and got like a 13 year old chick pregnant. Malone elbowed the hell out of Steve Nash, a real class act.

  • all the losing? did ya watch the video?

you exemplify the typical mindless modern basketball fan...ya don't care about substance, it's all about image

  • Are you mentally retarded? John Stockton was overrated? Hell, he was UNDERRATED. Most assists and steals ever....you don't know shit about hoops kid

  • Damn Stockton was the man. Too bad they met Jordan both times in the Finals lol.

  • dammit I remember watching this live...I soo wanted the rockets to win...

  • Most of you are all dumb asses. You know how many no calls there are for every team in every sport? Moving foul good god shut up. Last play of a playoff game, no team will get that foul.

And tharock you just are an idiot karma?? Really? HAHAHAHAHAHA. I guess we know who here watches sports and who don't.

  • Karma as in, Michael Jordan's push-off on Byron Russell not getting called.

That, by definition, would be karma for the no-call on the offensive holding move put on Drexler.

  • Malone bear hugged Drexler. Oh well, the Jazz still have never won a ring. Karma's a bitch like that.

  • I'll never forget watching this game alone in the guest-room in my house and screaming and jumping around when Stockton hit that shot. It was after midnight & my entire family was already asleep... Until Stockton hit that shot, that is. ;) NOBODY played the point better and NOBODY ever will.

    Thanks 4 posting

  • dude he was wide open where was the defense on that?

  • I'm not sure, but it looks to me like the guy who was holding Stockon was actualy fouled... it looks like that other guy grabs him so he can't get to Stockton. What do you think?

  • Yea I see what you mean. I guess the refs missed that one should have been a moving pick foul or offensive foul

  • 20 seconds in "uh oh"...you know your a clutch player when an announcer says that once you get the ball. BTW John Stockton was known by the media to be a major A-HOLE LOL! but that was always kept quiet

  • Jaaaaaaahn Staaaaecten!

  • Too bad Stockton and Malone never got their rings, greatest players to never win a championship imo. Barkley too heh.

  • What the hell was Barkley doing? He couldn't defend worth shit.

  • I agree...He should of came out once he saw drexler was picked by malone...This lost ranks as the worst lost ever by houston cuz this was closest they got to finally playing the bulls in the finals.

  • dabest john stockton!

  • I remember watching this I shat myself.

  • thank you my friend for upload,,i still love stockfon and malone,,do you know where are they now and what are they doing??? please reply

    ]

  • Damn after each clutch moment all i hear is that NBA on NBC music...classic.

  • how do you let someone wide open like that in that situation?

  • Gives me chills

  • what is that game 7??

  • lol moving pick on malone?? anyone??

  • only a Cockets fan like you think that

  • PS: Jerry Sloan still looks the same hahahah

  • The NBA on NBC was much better

  • I know!! I can hear the theme song playing right now...such excitement haha

  • i bet this is why Charles Barkley is always hoeing the Rockets out of everything...you notice that hes always hating...this is probably why

  • I remeber this...... I was so pissed I called it before it happened.

  • One of the most underrated moments in sports history.

2nd best PG to ever play behind Magic Johnson.

I remember seeing a recording with John Stockton out with his family in Barcelona. He bumped into an American, some blonde bimbo and casually asked her if she was enjoying the olympics.

She remarked that she was there to see the Dream Team. He remarked that he was playing bball on the team. She didn't believe him, so he pointed himself out on the dreamteam shirt she was wearing....dumb b****

  • only if Stockton and Malone won a ring :(

  • Stockton! Open! Three! Got it!

  • only time i've seen john stockton, greg foster, and coach sloan excited...EVER! bill walton's, "uh oh" vs. "JOHN STOCKTON SENDS THE UTAH JAZZ TO THE NBA FINALS!"

  • too bad it was away game for jazz.

or else THE PLACE WOULD GO NUTS!!

  • "John Stockton sends the Utah Jazz to the NBA Finals."- Greg Gumbel

I remember the Jazz could NEVER beat the Rockets. lol

Well, I guess that day............................they did.

  • now it seems everytime they meet in the playoffs the jazz beat the rocks all the time

  • Biggest BS. Sloan saying he didn't know that Jordan had the flu in the finals.

  • LOL @ young Jerry Sloan!

it looks like he has 3 layers for flabby skin on his face nowadays. Great coach tho

  • Chuck really never had all of his heart in houston, i'm no ready to compare him to Scottie quittin but JIZZ HAVE 0 RINGS!!

  • he had heart, but his play was declining. he should have joined the rockets when they won those championships

  • thanks chuck....for all that shit talkin you do on us the rox on tnt. You would cause us to face the bulls in 97 nd possibly a chip

  • I remember I was 12 back then, my neighbors got mad because I was screaming so loud. I'm European and it was about 4am in my country:)

  • i was 14 and i remember my dad, my brother and me jumping off the couch screaming while my mom was asking "what happened?! what happened? is it over?"

she didnt get it of course, but for everyone that heard "john stockton sends the utah jazz to the nba finals!!" they will remember it likely for the rest of their lives. 12 years later and i still remember it like it was yesterday. those were the good old jazz days

  • This still hurts 12 years later, Barkley's lazy D cost us a chance at another title and he has the nerve to yap about players not playing D.

  • Hurts alot but a lesson for the Rockets they should've never traded Sam Cassell.

  • I'm pretty sure this was the last time Jerry Sloan smiled!

  • it was haha

  • The second Stockton came up with the ball with NO ONE on him, the announcer says "Uh-Oh."

Stockton 50% from the field, 40% from 3 point land for his career. Danger danger.

  • yep,it was almost funny....to hear that ;-)

  • Do you realize why he was open? Check out that bear hug that Malone gave Drexler for about 15 feet of the court. I would call that the definition of a moving pick

That jazz always have been pussies and never have played the game the right way. Sloan preaches flopping, fouling, and cheap shots and thats why he ain;t won SHIT in his career.

  • this coming from a Jizz fan whose team always choked against the rockets during their title runs.

  • rofl we always beat u in the playoffs y are you trying to diss us? Because we always kick ur butt in the playoffs?

  • you know, ur just like any other rocket fan, complain about every god damn thing! and ur the pussy, cuz ur still complaining about the jazz eliminating the rockets 12 years ago! Just let it go! and sloan doesn't preach about flopping, fouling and that other shit. That's what adelman does. And coach sloan dominates adelman! Both as a coach and as a player! they used to be teammates

  • Malone was the main scorer on the team but they always went to Stockton to hit big shots in the clutch. Stockton was tough as nails. If Malone would have had half the moxey in him that Stockton had, those guys likely would have won a championship or two. Malone always choked under pressure.

  • Too much complacency among players in the league nowadays...all the big names of this decade have won very few titles and most of the big names have won zero. I guess you have to blame the Spurs for the downfall of the league.
