  • I dont know about this camera. The "bokeh" is digitally or what? What I do know is that each of my lens delivers different quality of bokeh. If this tech can re-focus on a images taken with a dslr and still able to bring out the bokeh of the lens when changing focus, it would be great. If not, its just a consumer camera.

  • "it's very comparable to an iphone." what the fuck? no it's not. the only thing similar about the lytro and iphone camera is the fact that they're cameras. that's it. you have a 3D "living" picture versus a 2D "flat" picture amongst many other differences. these guys suck.

  • is $399 camera only or software included?

    does included software is enough?

or do we have to splash more money for better software?

  • @entouchgraphics

    Don't be an ass.

This can be a awesome new gadget for people who want to snap pictures quickly, without any fuss.

  • @sqjam I am sorry you feel that way. The whole point of Photography is to be creative. Not just "Snapping" pictures. Plus: this camera is being marketed heavily to professional photographer's who understand photography. This Tech is cool for people who just want to "Snap" pictures yes. But for the people that it is being marketed to; it is junk and after looking at the raw pictures produced from this Camera, I am almost in tears. My iPhone can produce better pictures in my opinion.

  • @entouchgraphics Obviously, if you were a true "professional photographer", you wouldn't sound so full of yourself, you'd be using Hasselblad as opposed to shitty Nikon's and you WOULDN'T be using an iPhone as a photographic comparison...you moron! You'd also know that it doesn't shoot in RAW, if you actually did see real photos out of the camera. You're just talking out of your ass. Go play on the freeway.

  • @DarkPhalanx You have no clue what you are talking about, Hasselblad cameras are great, but for Portrait work. I am mostly an event photographer and need the speed of Nikon... and true "Professional Photographer" would have the view that, you choose the best tool for the Job. When I said "Raw" I did not mean as in the Raw format, I meant "Un-Edited" as in "Raw from the Camera", These pictures are readily available to anyone, go to the Lytro website.

  • @DarkPhalanx And the web compression may make them look worse than they are, but as of now, this is not something that I would want.

  • @entouchgraphics Even a REAL photographer would know the term is "BOKEH", you wannabe.

  • @DarkPhalanx Haha, Yes you are right. That is my mistake. And no, I am not a "wannabe", I am a photographer who makes a living doing what I love.

  • super lisp 2000 lol great product tho

  • 3D pictures are just a gimmick. However, it looks like great technology that could be brought to a point where they become the next standard.

  • Ok so 500 for just that ? No video available ?

This is a beta version prototype .. Im sure there will be a zillion other features added to this product once it becomes popular and customers start demanding.

I'd wait and see what happens instead of swinging right away.

This is the future tech we might see in the iOS devises very soon, I'm pretty sure apple has already put them in the radar to implement these tech in their devises. That'd be something else

  • Aha that's it, it creates rainbows of color. I knew it.

  • It's long ago i wanted a product this much :)

  • He has lisp.

  • Looks interesting..

  • Is there one that can help you shoot video without making your viewers SEASICK?

  • Tech explanation (by the author) is found 11:00---16:00

  • Glare might be a problem...

  • this is the future of photography right here!

now to find that picture/video of looking through lightfield microlens he mentioned..

  • wow, really cool tech. ren seems very clever, but these two "directors" of whatever should step their game up... A LOT.

  • Asians are at it again! :D

  • This is freaking brilliant.

    - new file format

    - new measurement

    - 2 buttons

    - plays in modern browsers

    - images uploaded to Facebook are interactive (tested last night)

I really think people need to see the full effects to appreciate the results.

  • fyi....They did say they are going to release windows software sometime just before or just after they ship in 2012.

  • One camera can shoot a 3D picture? So cyclops could have depth perception as well?

  • @danielsun55 Even with one eye, we still have the ability to determine parallax, and that's all that the Lytro camera is doing (test this by closing one eye and looking at different objects; your eye still focuses on each one)

  • Mac only? I guess they think their customers are money trees too.

  • Is Ren Ng on Google+?

  • Interviewer is happy it posts to Facebook. Else it would be a bad product.

  • @5random1 I'd say video in 2013. I don't understand what you are talking about when you say re-focusing DOF, you can't do that with regular video data.

  • why does this interviewer make it seem like EVERYONE uses a phone for pictures...

  • The next model MUST be a widescreen version. No point in this polaroid scaling.

  • $399-$499 for the red hot. wow.

  • imagine if you could use mouse scroll to change focus... or holding the mouse down and having it focus anywhere it moves, while it moves

  • Sad to see a promising technology in the hands of people who don't even understand what they have. Either the 2 guys were nervous, or just completely in over their heads. The inventor (Ng) needs to surround himself with savvy business people. Unfortunately for every genius like Ng, there's a million business leeches looking to hang onto the coattails of others. BTW the interviewer is rude, obnoxious, and doesn't deserve answers to his stupid questions. Ng was disrespected by this crap video.

  • the CEO doesn't know how close it can focus? thats an epic fail, they couldn't answer the biggest image resolution. the product seems cool, but it looks like the company will fail

  • Is it just me or do the people at the beginning seem like they know very little about it

  • Wait a few years. This technology will trickle into serious camera manufacturers' offerings for way cheaper.

  • @5random1 Film Studio currently scanning in 2K processes images at your specs today. But today they use huge server farms to process the video.

  • i thought it was a flashlight

  • Lytra + RED cameras = future of photo taking

  • So cool! The fun part (demo of changing focus) starts around 17:00. Because of reflection on the screen, it is a bit hard to see refocus changing, but it does!

    すげ! フォーカスを変更するデモは17:00くらいから始まります。画面の反射で見えづらいですが、注意して見ると分かります。

  • that guy in the background ate close to a tonne of food :D

  • What's the shutter speed?!!! Is it instantaneous? ?? Can I use it for action? Seems revolutionary...but I have my doubts.

  • @jmez927 Since it doesn't have a focus point it doesn't matter what the shutter speed is. After you take the picture you can focus on whatever part of the action shot you want and it will be crystal clear. So it's actually probably perfect for action shots.

  • 1 minute into the video and I'm on the verge of an orgasm

  • Wow. This is AWESOME

  • Wow just wow...

This is going to revolutionize the world of image capture devices.

I can also see a host of optical limitations becoming a thing of the past with this technology.

  • 8:00

Hey it's Brian Tong there in the background <3

  • real RAW generation of photography is coming!

    OH YEAH!

  • Ok, let´s forget that 1 Megapixel gap... How about making ONE sharp image??? To "refocus" a blurred image to another blurred image is something I never wanted, even with 1 Megapixel quality...

  • hehehehehehehhehehhehee

    2:31

  • @BadWithNames123 are you stupid? this is the way he laughs you shouldn't make fun of him

  • Yeah, yeah... 399 dollars, 8 Gigabytes, USB, Zoom, f 2...What about the main thing, image resolution???? Better than my 1999 Mavica????

  • pretty low resolution apparently

  • Here I'll show you some low light shots on a 1 inch screen.

    Just get a canon 40D w/ a 50 1.4f for only 200 dollars more.

Pretty lame for the price point on the thing.

  • @slu7fuck3r ,

but that is not the actually the selling point of this camera.

  • I want one!

  • I want one too :-)

  • at 9:00 brian tong is in the background

  • @android059 He is probably doing something foolish like he always do.

    I like Apple Byte though.

  • I want one!

  • Good hit rob... killer timing on the interview!

  • Very interesting to see what I can do with this type of photo technology...

  • great video and a very interesting camera! looking forward to playing with one :)

  • Wow, loved this interview and the Camera, Thanks Scoble!

  • This or an iPad? Hmm...

  • Very cool technology. Thanks for another great video, Robert!

  • Cool technology, but is it too much camera for too cheap to be taken seriously?
