Wow, thanks so much for this. What a brilliant artist. Rick Baker totally deserved the first special effects makeup Oscar for his incredible work for American Werewolf In London, but he definitely owed a debt to Dick Smith, don't you think? I love how, in interviews, Tom Savini mentions Mr. Smith as much as possible. And, how Savini explains how generous Smith was with techniques he pioneered over the years. Seemed like such a great guy. Thanks again.
@ChrisMagoo99 Yeah! I actually didn't know that until a few years ago. I actually haven't watched that movie in years because, as a recovering Catholic, it scared the hell outta me. :)
5:37. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO! I've been wanting to know how he did that for a while =P.. Plus it's always nice to see some behind the scenes footage from The Exorcist =-)
The still photos and archival footage are invaluable. Examples of his work should be in the Smithsonian if they aren't already. This is why he alone is "The Master."
Dick Smith is not only an artistic genius, he has all the attributes of a leader. A whole generation of makeup artists look to him as an inspiration. Most admirable.
@luvdomus He's an amazing innovator and a really kind man. At the same time, he is extremely honest. Everything that comes out of his mouth is as straight-up as gospel...
My fiance Jeff Farley has to do stuff like this for a living :3
He's worked on so many awesome films :3
