the only problem they dont mention is the typr of system required to run this thing at max. And also that you will have to go and do some tweaking and changing of certain values here and there which isnt very clear. So if get ready to learn a lot on how to tweak your system for better performance and get ready to spend some money. I think its worth it in the end. The maps are huge and there are so many ways to complete a mission not to mention there is a mission editor for people to get creative

I was a huge fan of OF, but when I played Dragon rising i was pretty dissapointed. Now I know why. I just got me Arma 2 and can't wait to dive into the open world and combat.
@Snapshot290 Its impossible to make arma for consoles... literally... Its just way to heavy and there isn't enough bottons on the controllers to handle it. If you want something "close" to this than get Dragons rising.

I own Combined Operations and I really do enjoy this game but the details and graphics are too high for a normal computer. To be able to play this game you need today's gaming systems for your computer which will put down my votes on this game a bit.

Yeah thats great woohoo, but Arma 2 mas much more voice commands than silly CSS and MW2. ARMA 2 has voices commands for identifying a unit, whether it's hostile, the rough distance or cordinates , direction... And the list goes on, CSS only has like what... 20 to 28 different lines of dialogue?
Plus you try getting more than 17gb on a DvD. But I can see what your trying to say, but what can I expect from someone who defends a mainstream game.
This is the best military simulator ever made for the public, this totally owns all of the usual well know titles found on consoles. The best thing about this game is that most of the players are grown men, most of who are actually real military.
Take the 7thcavalry.us boys, they are hardcore players allot of who are actual real life soldiers. When you play with them its absolutely wicked. When they key up on the mic the just sound like troopers, with all there jargon lol..its brilliant!

The military simulator naming tends to refer to its somewhat more modified brother VBS 2 which most definately is a simulator, This is the same as that just with many of the Military training aspects removed (No Humvees opening up to reveal traffic cones for setting up check points etc) If I recall correctly though most of its combat aspects are fairly similar though, not sure
AI in this game is downright brilliant. Most of the bugs are fixed with the latest patch and not the best voice acting, now mention the oh so plenty good in the game?
Flaspoint Coldwar Crisis, Armed Assault & ArmA II are the best games ever. I can't believe some people still haven't heard of these titles and are still playing kiddy FPS shooters when they can participate in a full scale war on HUGE islands.
Be a soldier, be a pilot, be a tankcommander! Enjoy the scenery, experience the depth and realism and tactical possiblities of this brilliant warsimulator! It's got me hooked since the old Flashpoint days and it keeps getting better and better. Try it!

Can I add that people should search for VBS 2, this is made by Bohemia and is made for several armies around the world for real world military situations.. Call of Duty makes adrenaline and I loved it when it came to this world.. but Operation Flashpoint Cold War Crisis, Arma 1 and 2 and VBS genres are something else then a game.. it's a military photoshop with all you needed that paint didn't have.. =)
Am I the only one that thinks thermal will make MP air even more overpowered, game balance wise, than they are today? I at least hope thermal will be realistic, as in have flaws similar to real life, but I expect it will be similar to the super night vision thats already in the game. I wish I had infantry night vision that clear when I was in the service.
Maybe it does, but I think that our community like ACE 2 mod or Domination missions etc. will include this, but NOT in PVP missions, so I guess it doesn't matter..
Also, it's no game for pleasure or skill against each other, if you have less bought weaponry or vehicles as an army or man by itself.. you just fucked if the other is better equipped..

Dont give me the "realism" argument as a counter for thermal "mp issue" when you can jump in a attack helicopter, set the throttle to full and take of like its car from Toyota... Last time I saw a DCS Black Shark (PC) video it took a bit more than that to, well, do anything.

Still not impressed. As an OFP/ArmA owner, the damned game is still full of bugs. Look at the video, @ 1min 10sec, that chopper has NO pilot. That is one of MANY bugs in existance for ArmA. Tanks FLY in this game.
When they finally fix the AI to actually fight like a real soldier, thats when I get impressed. When I stop getting shot by my own men or even have the corpman actually heal me, perhaps I may start playing again.
First of all. Relative seen to other games this game is not full of bugs. THe content and world is so huge you will alway's encounter bugs. THe patches have fixed he most. And than your ignorance... The chopper u see is a AH-6X. A UAV controlled by a pilot on the ground or a Apache Pilot/Gunner. It can have a pilot but yu can also fly it remote controlled. The AI in ARMA is allready way better than any other AI in other games. Other games are so small they script every move of AI.

So if a tank's tracks are disabled and are being shot by bullets, they should jump out of it and take the bullets? So if a grenade goes next to you, you dont run away from it? So corpsman/medics should watch you die? Please, educate how a real soldier fights, and how everything in ArmA is perfect.

Personally I dislike MW2 for several reasons
Cliched storyline that makes absolutely ZERO sense
Arcadish gameplay and features (The need to introduce dual wielding single handedly killed alot of my interest)
Too easy gameplay (MP is more difficult obviously, but even then I find its just a spam fest rather than anything intelligent)
Personally I really liked COD 1 and found every version since got worse generally, Including every weapon for both teams, No leaning, not ROF selector

Have you seen the AI fly the planes in this game? They are sure must better than a human player when it comes to an attack run on a convoy.
Besides they aren't as rich as people like Infinity Ward who highly shitty work like Modern Wafare 2.

The military simulator naming tends to refer to its somewhat more modified brother VBS 2 which most definately is a simulator, This is the same as that just with many of the Military training aspects removed (No Humvees opening up to reveal traffic cones for setting up check points etc) If I recall correctly though most of its combat aspects are fairly similar though, not sure

Flaspoint Coldwar Crisis, Armed Assault & ArmA II are the best games ever. I can't believe some people still haven't heard of these titles and are still playing kiddy FPS shooters when they can participate in a full scale war on HUGE islands.
Be a soldier, be a pilot, be a tankcommander! Enjoy the scenery, experience the depth and realism and tactical possiblities of this brilliant warsimulator! It's got me hooked since the old Flashpoint days and it keeps getting better and better. Try it!

The weird thing is, most of the "new stuff" I've seen in these previews of OA as far as features and weapons/vehicles go have already been made by ArmA2 modders and are available to download as addons...

Can I add that people should search for VBS 2, this is made by Bohemia and is made for several armies around the world for real world military situations.. Call of Duty makes adrenaline and I loved it when it came to this world.. but Operation Flashpoint Cold War Crisis, Arma 1 and 2 and VBS genres are something else then a game.. it's a military photoshop with all you needed that paint didn't have.. =)

Am I the only one that thinks thermal will make MP air even more overpowered, game balance wise, than they are today? I at least hope thermal will be realistic, as in have flaws similar to real life, but I expect it will be similar to the super night vision thats already in the game. I wish I had infantry night vision that clear when I was in the service.

Maybe it does, but I think that our community like ACE 2 mod or Domination missions etc. will include this, but NOT in PVP missions, so I guess it doesn't matter..
Also, it's no game for pleasure or skill against each other, if you have less bought weaponry or vehicles as an army or man by itself.. you just fucked if the other is better equipped..
So yes, it's realism and it depends on factors AND of course skill

Dont give me the "realism" argument as a counter for thermal "mp issue" when you can jump in a attack helicopter, set the throttle to full and take of like its car from Toyota... Last time I saw a DCS Black Shark (PC) video it took a bit more than that to, well, do anything.

Still not impressed. As an OFP/ArmA owner, the damned game is still full of bugs. Look at the video, @ 1min 10sec, that chopper has NO pilot. That is one of MANY bugs in existance for ArmA. Tanks FLY in this game.
When they finally fix the AI to actually fight like a real soldier, thats when I get impressed. When I stop getting shot by my own men or even have the corpman actually heal me, perhaps I may start playing again.

First of all. Relative seen to other games this game is not full of bugs. THe content and world is so huge you will alway's encounter bugs. THe patches have fixed he most. And than your ignorance... The chopper u see is a AH-6X. A UAV controlled by a pilot on the ground or a Apache Pilot/Gunner. It can have a pilot but yu can also fly it remote controlled. The AI in ARMA is allready way better than any other AI in other games. Other games are so small they script every move of AI.

@WinchesterDelta1 So infantry dont shoot enemy in range with AT weaponry even if they have a rifle instead of using it on a tank? So they dont wander into the muzzle of a friendly unit? So if a tank's tracks are disabled and are being shot by bullets, they should jump out of it and take the bullets? So if a grenade goes next to you, you dont run away from it? So corpsman/medics should watch you die? Please, educate how a real soldier fights, and how everything in ArmA is perfect.

LOL all what you just said is true. But still the ARMA2 AI is way better than any other AI. They are doing that stuff because not everything is scripted. And to make AI like you want Is impossible these day's and you gonna need a computer 3 times better than you know have. Making AI aware of millions of objects, 100 of players and hundreds of other AI while doing combat tasks requires a massive amount of computer power. And all waht you said above is also done by human players.

THis game is no scripted event like in COD4 our BF:BC. You probably have no idea why making AI in a huge huge world with miliions of objects and other players and AI to intereact with. Go learn programming and you understand... Than you know why alot of game company's don't want to make a game like ARMA2. Codemasters try'd... and failed. And they had like 20 Programmers BIS only 5.

The AI in ARMA is thinking for itself most of the time within certain boundary's. If you ever put any AI from another game in ARMA and made it compatible those AI would just stand there because they don't know what to do with such a huge world.
