I feel this video is incomplete. It would be helpful to point out that "love" can mean lots of things, for example "You're the most fascinating person I've ever met," or "I hope you always pay for my ____," or "I want to always be there for you, sacrifice for you, bear your children, and grow old with you." Obviously that last meaning would lead to marriage. What a youthful question.

What Dan said was accurate. If there was not a single religion in existance, than there would be no such thing as marriage. However, there would be something that would probably eventually arise in it's place that would become similar to if not practically the same but called something different if at all. Along as your happy, thats all that matters.

You can say "I love you" with no intent to marry if you want to. There is nothing wrong with it as long as you and you partner are on the same page with the relationship.

Marriage is not solely a religious construct. It is a social construct that may exist with or without religion. It is the formalization of a natural human commitment. Just as love and sex should not be conflated, neither should religious marriage and civil marriage, or marriage as sacrament and marriage as social contract. Broadly referring to all marriage as a religious construct is a pretty careless oversight.

if i were in a relationship a month or more old and he acted the way you recommended above, i would end it immediately. unless all i wanted was sex then maybe i would stick with it while i am satisfied. what is the point in trying with a guy who refuses to meet me in the middle...has to come from both sides. 1. An emotional challenge.

2. A guy that controls his emotions.

3. A guy who is confident with self esteem.

Actually Marriage isn't a religion based concept. In the earlier years it was a means of granting property rights(Spouse to Spouse, Parent to child etc...).The church didn't get involved until the 1500's when the council of Trent thought that someone needed to witness this type of bonding, thus it changed from state regulated to church regulated. Just thought you ought to know.
