The only trading should be of information between countries (via the internet... for the most part free (media)... and with severely shortened copyright for inventions). Physical goods should stay within each country to encourage self-sustainable and unique communities (not to mention avoid all the suffering that occurs both ways as a result of trade with 3rd world countries).
Regardless of hurting our long-term competitiveness with unethical countries in the world and our national defense, these objectives should be met. They are morally superior to these other goals. With global pressure, we can also coerce all other countries to do the same. Regardless of whether other countries follow suit, however fatalistic sounding, it is the moral imperative that we pursue all of these goals.
Small business needs to be emphasized, and jobs need to be brought home. Grants need to be given for pursuit of clean energies and to solve poverty in the hardest hit areas of the world. Fossil fuel use has to end, regardless of the costs. Food needs to be produced completely locally in municipalities. Greater support of urban living needs occur. Land distribution for all needs to happen so the poor have a chance to own property too instead of lining wealthy landlord's pockets.
The money of the rich should be taxed and spent improving infrastructure and education, and improving government in the 3rd world which will in turn (in a most natural, ethical way), solve their 10 million+ hunger deaths and overpopulation problems.
In the long term, we need to gear ourselves towards a smaller economy with lower skilled jobs.
I'm happy with making less than 20 grand a year (after all... half the world lives on less than $2200 a year, even after taking exchange rates and purchase power parity into account).
What upsets me is the rich utilize or waste much more resources than the average person, especially compared to impoverished nations. In a world with finite resources, the common philosophy "I made it and can spend it how I want to" is bunk.
