My goodness, that was Mr. Al Green, Little Richard and what looked to be Mabel Staples on the stage near the end. I remember seeing Pattie and the Bluebelles at the Apollo when I was young. That woman has God given vocals and talent within her. No one delivers a song like singers from that era. And she still performs today.
What happened to the performance with her performing this at the apollo with the bluebelles, it used to be on youtube? Love this performance by the way.
Someone should hit her in the mouth. As far as I'm concerned, they could have turned off the cameras, shut off the lights and sent the people home after this performance. What more was there to see, hear or sing? NOTHING! It was OVER!!!
Would LOVE to have the rights to the 10-15 best of Patti's Live television moments, fully remastered and restored...would make one hell of a DVD. And the 2nd DVD would be some of her greatest concert moments.
This is Patti's best performance to date for me. I watched this with my entire family in 84 or 85 live and recorded it on our VHS which was new then. It brought tears to my eyes.

Lord Have Mercy!!!! I can't stop crying listening to this. I absolutely love good gospel music and singing. And Patti LaBelle and the choir was a match made in heaven. Out of all of the performances that I have ever seen Patti do, and she is one of the top singers and performers that ever picked up a mic, but this performance tops them all, hands down. I often ask why didn't Patti Labelle ever sign with Motown. I mean just about every one who did had at least 4-5 hits if not more. I mean she did very well without signing to Motown. But thats one thing I would like an interviewer to ask her.

it wasnt just a singer, singing this old ass song...it was OPERATIC. I was 16 when this show was aired. My mother and step father let me take off from my after school job so I could watch it with the family. My step dad was from Philly and saw Patti from her early days on the chitlun circuit. And he got emotional as he watched this woman sing that night...He said, "I never knew she would be a SUPERSTAR because that wasnt in the cards for black girls like her in those days..but look at her NOW!!
Hi chandiggy, a minor third is just a name for an interval. An interval is a musical term to describe the distance between two notes. If you listen to Patti sing "Never" at 3:34, she sings a minor third and then slides the second note down to make it a major third. A lot of blues artists do this. And Patti just milks it good. :o) I hope that helps.

Everyone has their own take on who they like best but Aretha has more than earned the title "Queen of soul" whether you agree or not! Give it to em queen!

LaBelle has been called the Godmother of Soul, the High Priestess of Good Vibrations and the Queen Of Rock & Soul. Aretha has covered everything from Gospel, R&B, Jazz, Soul, and even Opera Aretha and Patti are both legendary Divas and even though their styles may be differant they both reign highly supreme in my book!

You must be young. Patti was famous for her hairstyles back in the day....you should check out what I called the "stadium do" when she sang with Dionne and Glaydys.
The quality of everything about this performance is 100% impeccable. First of all I feel like I am watching this amazing performance in HD, not just HQ! It's great! The performance is an absolute DEFINITION of Patti LaBelle!

it wasnt just a singer, singing this old ass song...it was OPERATIC. I was 16 when this show was aired. My mother and step father let me take off from my after school job so I could watch it with the family. My step dad was from Philly and saw Patti from her early days on the chitlun circuit. And he got emotional as he watched this woman sing that night...He said, "I never knew she would be a SUPERSTAR because that wasnt in the cards for black girls like her in those days..but look at her NOW!!

Hi chandiggy, a minor third is just a name for an interval. An interval is a musical term to describe the distance between two notes. If you listen to Patti sing "Never" at 3:34, she sings a minor third and then slides the second note down to make it a major third. A lot of blues artists do this. And Patti just milks it good. :o) I hope that helps.

Everytime Patti sings I feel she has touched my soul. I can't say the same for Aretha!! @mrdmack2008 - Aretha Franklin has the most million-selling singles of any female artist with 14. Franklin has the female record for the most #1 R&B albums. She was the first female to be inducted in the rock & roll hall of fame. Aretha has won a total of 18 Grammy awards while Patti has been nominated for 11 but won only 2. Everyone has their own take on who they like best but Aretha has more than earned the title "Queen of soul" whether you agree or not! Give it to em queen!

Look @ Ashanti winning all those grammy's for her debut album but she cannot sing @ all !!! So does that mean she is also a better singer than Patti? I think not!! LaBelle has been called the Godmother of Soul, the High Priestess of Good Vibrations and the Queen Of Rock & Soul. Aretha has covered everything from Gospel, R&B, Jazz, Soul, and even Opera Aretha and Patti are both legendary Divas and even though their styles may be differant they both reign highly supreme in my book!
