wait at the end she said his body was less than a mile from the family? so he went in a big circle? i don't get it... it said he walked 16 miles. such a sad story. stay on the road. don't try to take a short cut. 16 miles thru thick brush and marsh forest is like 50 miles on a nice flat road. marathon runners can run 26.2 miles in like 3 hours. WHAT IF........What if...
I just watch this last night on the sixth sence it so sad it touch my heart. little sabine so cute if I have one wish I wish james can come back. I'm truely proud of james he a hero.
To give you an idea of how far out in the wilderness the Kim family was, enter these gps coordinates into Google Earth - 42 41.426 North; 123 46.595 West. That is where the car was found.
Without a GPS (and one with decent backroad map coverage at that, not all do), Kim would have had a difficult time finding his way back along the forest roads.
Such a sad and touching story. But Paula Zahn is a Zionist bitch. Not the anchor I wanted to see covering is touching story of human spirit and tragedy. May Mr. Kim rest in peace.
@GeorgiaIsOnMyMind Sorry. I kinda wasn't able to work out my day to even catch the whole story on a single show showing it. So I didn't have much choice of presenters in the copy I posted.
I'm "closed minded" because I'm touched by Mr. Kim's story? You're the one who seems closed minded because you consider it "closed minded" to call out Zionist vermin. Pigs like you are should be fried along with zionists.
@GeorgiaIsOnMyMind Do you even know what a Zionist is? Have you taken the time to look up Zion? Did you know there are allot of Jewish people who are Anti-Zionist? But they know exactly what Zionists are. So please to help me feel better with your comment could you tell me what you consider to be a Zionist?
@rileybubu If anyone is being ignorant I have been for letting a slur stay. But you are drawing so much attention to it. Why? It is offensive but does it really improve anything trying to be as offensive in response?
These media people suck. For one there are NUMEROUS minor inaccuracies. Second, why the overblown and overy-dramatic music and wording? Third, why is everyone always falling all over themselves to label James Kim a "hero" and say he did nothing wrong? Obviously this kind of thing could happen to a lot of people, but there were SEVERAL points along the way where he made mistakes that caused the situation to go the way it did. I'm not bad-mouthing him, I'm just saying, call it like it is.
He did what a father and husband was suppose to do, he man'd up and went to find some help. He may not be a hero to you, but to his family he was. I feel bad for your family if you were in that situation.
Ha. My family wouldn't BE in that situation, because I would have walked out after the first day. Not sat in the car "waiting for someone to come save me" until I was too weak and hungry to walk out. He also made other mistakes that I wouldn't have made. So you are way off base. You don't have any idea how good I am with outdoor crisis situations, so how can you possibly "feel bad for my family?" Also, you didn't answer my points; you just chimed in with more sentimental bullsh*t.
Perhaps you could have made a more valid contribution by sharing what you would have done. I don't drive one town over without survival/first aid kits, and I'm sure that you don't either yet, for all of your bravado, you ignore the first recommended tool for survival, staying put. Mr. Kim would be alive if he had followed that one simple rule, as his wife and girls are.
"Staying put" is recommended only when you are in the wilderness -- he was on a road, not in the wilderness. Ater the first day or two with no traffic, I would have figured SOMETHING is wrong, and I would have walked out. He was only 1-2 day walk from civ. "Staying put" cost him his life, because he waited until he was weak before going. Had it not been for the cell tower engineers, they would NOT have been found so soon. And even that took 9+ days. They're LUCKY to be alive. Should've walked.
Staying put is recommended PERIOD in winter weather conditions. Rule of 3, Dom, 3 weeks without food, 3 days without water, 3 HOURS without shelter in adverse conditions, which come up fast. Heading out in winter conditions cost him his life. They were only gone 12 days, the children would have survived by breast feeding and the adults would have survived another 9 days. Trust me, Dom, the majority of bodies that we collect are tough guys like you who thought they could walk out in the winter.
Now I KNOW you're full of it. I've been doing outdoor / adventure / survival stuff for 20 years now, and if you've got a road to walk on and it's good weather -- which it WAS for most of their wait -- there's no reason not to walk. Especially when no one's been by in that long (because that indicates no one will probably come down that road at all). His mistake was leaving the road. I won't "trust you," because you're full of it. Most of the bodies are ignorant city people, not "tough guys."
So, just because he's on a road, a snow storm wouldn't affect him? You're an idiot, Dom, and only two kinds of people die in the snow, idiots and tough guys. I've surmised that you're the former, you've admitted to being the latter.
If you're on a road, you walk. You don't sit for 7 days starving and getting weaker. And you certainly don't leave the road. You're right, I am a tough guy. And if you were stranded with me, you'd be glad I carried you out across my shoulders rather than sitting in a car waiting for help that would never come.
@DominicMetal1979 First off, without shelter you can only survive three hours, without water, three days and withoutout food, three weeks. It would be an idiotic move to get out of the car and walk right off the bat. When you are in a situation like that, descions become harder as you are in the situation for such a long time period. James did do the right thing, if only he had stayed on the road. And you are right, he should have stayed on the road, but he didn't care. He did it for his family.
@DominicMetal1979 He was on a logging GRAVEL ROAD! Not a raod you see in a city or town. If it is gravel and surrounded by a forest on either side of the road, YOU ARE IN THE WILDERNESS! And if you have not seen my earlier reply, I do not think I have to re-eplain the reason and cautions of why he had not walked sooner.
Congrats, you just revealed what you truly are, a miserable troll. I wonder how well you would actually hold up in a similar situation, and I'm not talking about "I wouldn't have gotten there in the first place" bull. Like all things, hindsight is 20/20. I'm sure the guy didn't have any kind of survival training. If he did, then I'm sure things would have turned out differently. But when you are stranded on a mountain in blizzard conditions, people are told it's best to wait for help.
And again, you cannot answer my points. All you can do is talk about ME and make excuses.
I wouldn't use the "I wouldn't have gotten there in the first place." If you READ, I said at the the start, "Obviously this kind of thing could happen to a lot of people."
The only "blizzard conditions" were on that first night. The rest of the time it was good weather. And you hit the nail on the head: He "did what he was told," rather than thinking for himself. Now answer my points or shut up.
Is it really so hard to fathom why they did this whole "hero" piece about the event? It can be any number of reasons, but I would suppose the most likely reason why this was pulled to such a level of media attention would be from the amount of people that were connected (directly and indirectly) to him and was a touching piece they could put together. If you still have trouble understanding, go hit yourself in the head with a brick.
nice man, you totally owned these guys in arguments. i hope we can have a person like u for every time someone dies, it will make everyone feel alot better.
I'm not trying to make anyone feel bad. I'm just saying, drop the sentimental bs and call it like it is. He wasn't that much of a "hero." He made several mistakes, and that's what caused this situation. He's not a bad or stupid person because of that, but don't make him larger than life either.
yeah true, but yea thats the media, they will get many views because of how they are portraying it, and ironically enough, the family probably doesnt want this whole thing, cuz its somewhat just exploiting the situation.
I just so sad... Even to this day almost two years later I still feel really heartbroken and I didn't even know him personally, just a few editor reviews and the crave video blog with Veronica.
I'm uncertain why comments are doubling. As for the GPS they did have a GPS unit in the car. It's another If Only. If James had taken it with him he might have been able to avoid his wrong turn. But he left it with his wife and children just in case they ended up having to try to trek out of there before he could get back with help. At least that is my guess why he left it with them.
I want to tell the doctor one thing, if people looks dead because of freez, bring the body hurry up to hospital, one hand take out the cold blood of the body, other hand put the warm blood, run the body again. It may have a change the body alife again. I am not joke. This really happened and someone alife again.
Agent although that experiment has been successfully conducted on mammals it requires gallons of properly typed blood and you have to know how long the person has been frozen. I'd rather not continue the discussion please just add this to the continuing and painful list of If only questions.
RIP, James. I enjoyed your reviews on Cnet. And for those of you who own a car, keep an emergency bag in your trunk.

@hwyfan Yeah but you realize that a GPS needs a clear view of the sky and they were surrounded by trees that can block the GPS signal.
