@Gomar3 Hi James, I'm an assistant to Mr. Songbird, most people know me as Docjazz4 :) To get a more crisp sound, try adjusting your breath pressure. More than likely, you aren't blowing strong enough. Also, try different types of articulation. You can search "Ocarina articulation" here on youtube and that will give you some tips.

strange question i know but....

is it even possible to play this 7 hole with all the holes covered? it kinda looks like the way its set up, with the 4 in the kind of pattern they are in, that it would be impossible/very cumbersome switch between those 4 holes.

Of course this is an exact replica of the real OoT from zelda, which was designed just like that, but its always just looked strange with the 4 holes in the shape they are in....

@Link500ACS Good observation! The original Zelda ocarina from the game was made to resemble the nintendo 64 controller, which is why they are arranged so funny. In order to make this comfortable to play, two of the 4 holes are actually faux holes, so only 5 of the 7 holes on top work, with two thumb holes on the backside, for a total of 7 working holes.

@HCW619 12-hole ocarinas are the easiest to play due to the linear fingering (right to left except for left pinky) and the range that they have. the most common type to get is an Alto C, as it is not too high or too low, but songbird sell many different types, and there are sound samples on each ocarina's page :)
