Thank you very much, could you tell me if this graphics card would be compatible with Call of duty 4 PC? I'm currently running on a dual core 2.6 ghz 4gb ddr3 and i'm buying this graphics card, thanks alot :)
thanks buddy. i got an used 4850 512mb which i managed to fuck after 3 days while mounting an Accelero S1. 16 days later they tell me they can't give me a new 4850 512mb as there are none left. so i pay $25 and get a 4850 1GB which should be arriving tomorrow. sorry for the fucking novel, but I'm pissed.
This video demonstrates the performance of the graphics card, not the visual presentation of the game. To record this in any higher a resolution would lag the system and defeat the purpose of the video. If you just want to watch videos of the game, such videos are out there.
I bought a Ati radeon 4550, but they sent me this instead, I want to just hook it up anyway but I can't find the cord that hooks from the power to the card.
I had to log in to say Thank you for the Review of the video card. With a new video card coming out ever week it should be no problem getting this card.

ive gone for the sapphire 5850, arriving tomorrow. seeing as theyre all based on the reference design theres no difference technically between any of the brands lol. ive been brainwashed with sapphire marketing so ive gone with them. (and i reckon they provide better support for their cards, i could be wrong tho..)
Sounds like an excellent choice to me. Personally, I'm waiting about 4 or 5 months til the prices come down a bit and they start coming out with some nonreference designs til I get my 5850. Sapphire is a great brand though. They are direct partners with ATI, much the same as EVGA is with nVidia.
I am going to buy an XFX HD 4850 1GB and a new power suplly. Do you know anything about it? BTW, good video. I like it. Good games, quality etc.. 5/5 and a sub
I don't know anything first hand about the XFX HD 4850. But I do know that XFX is a very quality brand. I bought to of their nVidia 8600GT's back when they strictly sold nVidia cards. They were great cards at the time (for and 8600GT). And I know the HD 4850 is a great GPU. So put the two together and you probably can't go wrong!
I have had this card for almost a year and I have not had one single issue with it. The only advice I can really give you is make sure you have good cooling and ventilation. Mine gets a little warm at times and I'm sure it would be a lot worse with two of them in there. Excellent card though.
vidmakr6302: why dont you just get the Radeon HD 4850 x2? not exactly the same but could save you money. the heat being generated by the 2 single cards and the 1 double card should be roughly the same also. but you need a good power supply for 2 singles or a double also. plus if you dont have an intel chipset on your motherboard, you cant crossfire anyway. idk just letting you know if it helps :)

I wish I had known about the advantage ATI graphics cards have on nvidia cards in terms of cost vs performance before I went and stupidly got me one. my heart and credit card ache :'(
A little confused by your post. I am running on a 720p HDTV. The native resolution of the TV is 1366x768, however, I am using HDMI so my only options are 1280x720 and 1920x1080. Since 1080p is above the TV's max resolution, I have to stick with 720p. One day (probably income tax time) I will get a smaller 1080p or better monitor, probably a 24". Its great playing games on a 32" TV, but I would trade it for the higher resolution for sure.
I play on a "32 hdready tv as well, the samsung LN32A450. I bought that specfic model cause I knew it would fully support a pc connection via hdmi and d-sub. through hdmi it will allow me to choose every resolution from 800X600 to 1440X900. however as its native resolution is 1366X768(and obviously the only one that looks "native rated") that's the one I use. what do u mean by "my only options are 1280X720..."?
having to choose between 1280X720 and 1920X1080 sounds like a console thing.
Ok, what I'm saying is this: I can choose plenty of different resolutions, but being that the medium is HDMI, whichever resolution I choose, it will scale to 720p. Its kind of hard to explain. I actually have to manually underscan in CCC to get full screen. If I don't, I have black bars all around the screen, even on the desktop regardless of what I choose because the picture is auto-scaling to 720 and the native res is 1366x768. In games I can choose 1080 but I won't get 1080.
I'll also add that I did briefly use VGA at 1366x768 but the slightly higher resolution didn't make a huge difference to my eyes and the overall quality is lower than HDMI.
Ok, I just did some quick reading and I see that it is a limitation of my TV (not HDMI itself). But the fact remains that the best I can get over HDMI with this TV is 720p. Anything higher will be downscaled. So you were smart for doing your research before buying your TV. I didn't even know that some TV's only accepted certain resolutions over HDMI when I bought mine.
I see. well...the difference between 768 and 720 pixel lines is not that significant when playing games.
Regarding the VGA - u're right. being an analog input it's not capable of displaying an image as sharp as the hdmi no matter its 1360X768 full pixel support.
Exactly. And the fact that I am playing at a lower resolution allows me to crank up the AA to the max with very little loss in performance. ATI cards don't seem to be affected much by high AA values to begin with. So the result really isn't that bad. That said, I still want to get a 1080 or better monitor for gaming and use this TV in an HTPC setup at some point.
Used Fraps to record...definite performance hit from that (most noticeable on Crysis and GTA). Threw the vids together real quick in Windows Movie Maker. And no, I do not think 300W PSU would do it. You could MAYBE pull it off if its a real good PSU, like PC Power and Cooling or something similar.
Lol...you are absolutely right! Unfortunately, I'm playing at the max resolution of my monitor/TV. I plan to get a 1080p monitor sometime in the near future.
I think I'll buy this, it's pretty cheap and it looks good enough, I'm gonna get loads of fans because I don't care about noise, I am used to my old PC being very very noisy. I'm getting the Nine Hundred and Two case, 3.0ghz Core 2 Duo, 4GB of DDR2 RAM and a 585W Power Supply, I'm hoping that will be good enough to play Crysis on High without lag.
Change of plan, the specs are gonna be a little bit worse but the products themselves are gonna be much more reliable, except the Graphics card which will be MUCH better and better quality.
I didn't even know they made a 4850 in AGP. The highest I've seen in AGP is 4650's and 4670's. Really don't know much about AGP cards as the only one I've really dealt with is my gf's old FX5200. To even make an educated guess as to whether you'll have the power, I'll have to know what PSU you have.
Minimum 450W PSU. As you probably know though, it varies a good bit depending on the efficiency of your PSU and what other components and peripherals you have. I'm running it with a 585W PSU by HEC Compucase (not great efficiency) and have never had a single problem. Though they have lower efficiency, I would def recommend HEC PSU's to anyone. I've used several of them with no problems and they are very cheap. Just overshoot the wattage a bit. 585W was $24.99 w/free shipping.
Forgot to mention, make sure you check the current on those 12V rails! I forget what the min requirements are but I think I just barely meet them or fail to meet them by just an amp or two. Still never a problem though.
Well i'm not rich so yes i'm looking to peice this together and i don't wanna spend too much money on it the first step is getting CPU,Mobo,RAM and the After MArket CPU Cooler july 1st then aug 1st 1 HDD and vista home prem 64bit then sept one of the G cards and oct the other g card.Plus i'm hoping to get the case for my birthday Aug 28th.I just wanna be good for the next 5 years or more for the best gaming i can and yes i'm running this on 42' 1080 P sony Bravia HDLCD TV
From experience I've found that this is the wrong way to go about building a system. Instead of buying the parts over a period of time like that, you may want to just put the money that you would be using to buy them aside and get everything at once. The reasoning is that by the time you have all the money together, the prices of the components will likely drop or there will be something better available for the same price.
It varies. That's the whole reason I put a few seconds of the settings before each game. And again, keep in mind that the resolution is only 1280 x 720. I'm happy with this setup for now, but in the future I plan to use this 32" HDTV in a strictly HTPC setup. When that happens I'll upgrade my graphics card and get at least a 1080p tv for the gaming rig. Too many "jaggies" in some games at 720p.
1. do you have this money burning a hole in your pocket, or is it a budget build?
2. it looks great to say the least, you could run any game on very high to high, but i think thats somewhat overkill for games in the next possibly 2 years. thats one of the top processors, and top video cards for the gamer. im expecting you to run crysis on very high on a 46" tv. lol
Not really sure how much it cost me. Without the TV I would say somewhere around $700.00 USD. Its hard to say because it started out as a totally different machine and this is how it has ended up (for the time being) after a series of upgrades over time.
Not very fast at all... you'd probably 'barely' be able to run it...lmao. Why ask the question when you know... your system is bad ass. I got 1 4850 512Mb, and it runs pretty well. You should be fine.
If you ask me, thats pretty much total overkill. Why in god's name would you want 6GB of DDR3 with XP Pro?? I'd do the standard 4GB DDR2, one of the newer Phenom X4's, and using the money I saved, I would get a 4870 X2. Having said that, since I'm gaming at only 1280x720, I'm more than happy with my current setup. Don't plan on upgrading for awhile.
this is the most bad ass video i have ever seen.... Holy crap man, its in high def!!! AWSOME... imma watch it 30 more times.... jk doggy.... good shit though for real.... mercs looks awsome!!!

TheZombiePanda 2 years ago
it will be ^_^
Josh1901 2 years ago
Change of plan, the specs are gonna be a little bit worse but the products themselves are gonna be much more reliable, except the Graphics card which will be MUCH better and better quality.

I didn't even know they made a 4850 in AGP. The highest I've seen in AGP is 4650's and 4670's. Really don't know much about AGP cards as the only one I've really dealt with is my gf's old FX5200. To even make an educated guess as to whether you'll have the power, I'll have to know what PSU you have.
matic3060 2 years ago
yes they have made it in agp but the performance its lower, because of the bus and memory it only has 512mb ddr3 but its agp.......
MultiGive 2 years ago
I just bought a Gigabyte HD 4850 1GB AGP to replace my Sapphire Raedon HD 3650 512MB AGP.......................hope I notice a difference?
You seem to know your stuff :-) Do you think I will have the power to run it? Thanks!

what resolution do u play at?
ishnookie 2 years ago
Pretty sure it says in the description that its 1280 x 720. Its low, but its as high as I can go on my TV without having to use VGA.

Very helpful, thank you

Minimum 450W PSU. As you probably know though, it varies a good bit depending on the efficiency of your PSU and what other components and peripherals you have. I'm running it with a 585W PSU by HEC Compucase (not great efficiency) and have never had a single problem. Though they have lower efficiency, I would def recommend HEC PSU's to anyone. I've used several of them with no problems and they are very cheap. Just overshoot the wattage a bit. 585W was $24.99 w/free shipping.

i have 450W and my games always crash :( like crysis that needs good card
Ultragamernumba1 2 years ago
i need a new PSU lol =P
Ultragamernumba1 2 years ago
yeah u need this card its calling you :D
i have this too lol
u need min. 450W power suply but i'd recommend 550W
Ultragamernumba1 2 years ago
Forgot to mention, make sure you check the current on those 12V rails! I forget what the min requirements are but I think I just barely meet them or fail to meet them by just an amp or two. Still never a problem though.

TheOneMetallica1 2 years ago
friend run his with 550W just fine
tobbe305 2 years ago
and the specs from ati says minimum is 450 W
tobbe305 2 years ago
this requires 450 W minimum, but I would recomend a stronger one
tobbe305 2 years ago
ah sorry mate, this thing according to Sapphire, it requires at least 450 watts to run, however it needs 550 watts if you are using Crossfire.
GundamAngelicDevil 2 years ago
if the X2 card requires 650 watts of PSU, then i could only speculate that this may require 500 to 600 watts.

AngelOfDeath420 2 years ago
From experience I've found that this is the wrong way to go about building a system. Instead of buying the parts over a period of time like that, you may want to just put the money that you would be using to buy them aside and get everything at once. The reasoning is that by the time you have all the money together, the prices of the components will likely drop or there will be something better available for the same price.
matic3060 2 years ago
you runing this games in high full totaly full ?
Nacionalismo1488 2 years ago

Ok,
1. do you have this money burning a hole in your pocket, or is it a budget build?
2. it looks great to say the least, you could run any game on very high to high, but i think thats somewhat overkill for games in the next possibly 2 years. thats one of the top processors, and top video cards for the gamer. im expecting you to run crysis on very high on a 46" tv. lol
YES
narn31 2 years ago
man that's a lot for gamin system ...these kind of stuffs are nearly more than 7000$ down here on aisa how much it cost u
THEICQUP 2 years ago
Not really sure how much it cost me. Without the TV I would say somewhere around $700.00 USD. Its hard to say because it started out as a totally different machine and this is how it has ended up (for the time being) after a series of upgrades over time.

how fast would this be with two hd 4850s 1g crossfire, 6gb ddr3 memory, intel core i7 940 2.93 Ghz, windows xp prof
achaswashere 2 years ago
Not very fast at all... you'd probably 'barely' be able to run it...lmao. Why ask the question when you know... your system is bad ass. I got 1 4850 512Mb, and it runs pretty well. You should be fine.
CTEngel85 2 years ago
If you ask me, thats pretty much total overkill. Why in god's name would you want 6GB of DDR3 with XP Pro?? I'd do the standard 4GB DDR2, one of the newer Phenom X4's, and using the money I saved, I would get a 4870 X2. Having said that, since I'm gaming at only 1280x720, I'm more than happy with my current setup. Don't plan on upgrading for awhile.
matic3060 2 years ago
as well you should check the system memory allowed, because xp i do believe is 4gb of RAM, so check that.
