I've got to give this props, I only knew the Gota feat Viv McKone version (bit more production to it, but it essentially keeps the song intact)...I'm assuming this one to be the original, no?
Met her when she played at Sheffield Poly Union in the late 70s. It was an 18s and over venue, yet she was no more than 17. I was among the stage crew provided by the Students Union so got to meet her at the soundcheck and after the show. Very nice lass who put on a great performance. I have the album on white vinyl and this was always one of my favourite tracks too.
Hey, Im familiar with the instrumental done by Gota some years back, But this blows the roof off of that version (naturally). THIS IS FUNKY AS HELL!!!! what year was it?
I'm sorry, but if Rachel Sweet had more songs like "It's So different Here", she'd cross over to R&B like David Bowie and all others. This is R&B! I'd say, "Damn you, Rachel" out of love, of course. It's a wonderful jam.
Agreed...love it to bits...I'm gonna have to get to grips with this technology: To Do List: Buy stylus for turntable; learn how to transfer groovy grooves to new fangled discy things and post on inter-net thingy...May take some time but I'm on the case...! Best wishes to all RS fans x
I wish someone would post "Truckstop Queen" it was on the Stiff Akron comp. With the scratch and sniff cover, still have it, still stinks like rubber.
Yeah...me too...shame about Akron...Cuckoo Clock with Lena Lovich rocks also, as did most of the Stiff label stable...Damn; must buy a new stylus for my turn table so that I may once again enjoy the eccentricity of that white vinyl disc... X
while her first album, fool around, is excellent, her best album is protect the innocent which isn't represented in any way on you tube. what's up with that?

Great stuff. I bought her LP when it came out, it was pure, virginal white vinyl.

Yeah, Spellbound was it? Great single, but i guess there's no video as Stiff wasn't interested anymore by then.
But CBS should've made a video for Shadows of the Night, huge hit potential which Benatar proved later

'Whats in the cuckoo clock' and 'who does lisa like?' are the best tracks on this album. I saw Rachel perform live and she was excellent.
