Ask yourself WHY is it that the pieces of SHIT at AIG get bonuses paid for by US Taxpayers? These insurance companies have HMOs that cause insureds to die. I subbed and saved this to favs! This is reality and people don't realize this. Insurance companies are ruling the doctors. I think we can have Universal Health Care if it is done right. I don't like that Medicare will be cut. Also, ssi will not have a cost of living increase allocated for the next 2 yrs. Many people don't qualify for Medical Assistance which in PA is highly funded for food stamps, drug and dental coverage. Why should the elderly suffer? In PA they even give out cell phones.

Further Dane3026, Perhaps you are too young to realize it, but all Americans are just one accident or one serious illness away from financial disaster. You don't see the Canadians or French or Germans, etc, worrying about being able to afford medical treatment. We should not have to worry about that either. A good universal health care system would protect us all from bankruptcy and, worse, from unnecessary disability caused by not getting needed medical care.

Canada has a "good universal health care system" and yet private coverage, and the right to access it, is demanded by Canadians. Industrialized nations with universal health care like France and the Netherlands and Austria are serving their populations far better than our greedy system is. We DO have rationing. Emily was denied care and rationed out of treatment that she had already paid for by paying her premiums. Blue Cross and all other private insurers have got to get out of our health care system.

Where does Dr. Gratzer's book address current rationing of healthcare in America? Chapter 3: "Nixon's Revenge" - Nixon pushed for managed care (a euphemism for rationing) which Congress legislated with the HMO Act of 1973. HMOs are a bad idea and are a wrong-headed reaction to price & wage controls of the war effort and the resulting tax code revision in 1943 that allowed employers to bypass wage controls by providing free health care to employees.

Lenin's revolution failed because of the economic forces that work against it. Prices are set by supply and demand. If all costs are picked-up the by gov't then there is no limit on demand... and prices increase. So the gov't sets price controls and supply dries-up or supply is rationed.
