Kobe averaged over 26 PPG in da Playoffs in all of the 3 years Lakers won da tittles back then so He was definitely not a side kick...but Shaq was just too dominant to not get da MVP's....But Lakers couldnt win w/o Kobe noo waaay...Remember Shaq was da first to say in 99-00 that Kobe is da most talented player in NBA nd errbody thought it was a joke lool
He averaged 26 ppg over the three year title run. The Lakers toughest opponent two out of three years was in the WCF. Against Portland, he averaged 20.2ppg, but had 25 in Game 7...and also the 28 against Indiana, including 8 in OT to save the series possibly with Shaq fouled out. He averaged 24.6/8/6 against Philly in the Finals after 33.2/7/7 in that evisceration of the Spurs. Shaq dominated 2000, but still needed Kobe to win Game 2 against Phoenix and Game 4 in Indiana.
Kobe had 14 points in the 4th quarter of this game and 12 points in the 4th quarter of game 4. Shaq even said that Kobe was huge and he doesn't think they would have won if he didn't step up.
So to say Kobe shouldn't at least be in the discussion for Finals MVP this year is absurd and ludicrous.
@oneman91 Correct, but forget about Shaq for a second, lets solely look at what KOBE did, and judge his performance based on that, not based on what OTHERS did or didn't do, that seems completely unfair.
Think about it, even if Jordan played with Shaq from 2000-2002, Shaq would get the Finals MVP awards every time. That doesn't diminish the fact that MJ put up 32-6-6 every finals (on average), just like that doesn't diminish the fact that Kobe put up 25-5-5 every finals (on average).
A bit more to the right with that desperation heave from Kidd and it's OT and maybe it becomes a series..either way, we wouldn't have ever been denied our three-peat..
kobe is very smmart and you can see that his work is paying off .

@Curtis7414 Kobe averaged 26 ppg OVER that 3 year span...not in each year like you make it seem. 22 in 2000, 28 in 2001, 26 in 2002.

Yeah 24 ppg and 26 ppg and they say Shaq could do it alone. Haha!

kobe should of gotten the last two finals mvp man he got screwed over
Spoken 2 years ago 8
lol..kobe got screwed over?
Kobe averaging 24 ppg in 2001 and 26 ppg in 2002 did not deserve Finals MVP
Shaq was rightfully Finals MVP with monstrous numbers
oneman91 2 years ago
But who showed up in the clutch in Games 3 and 4?
Kobe
Kobe had 14 points in the 4th quarter of this game and 12 points in the 4th quarter of game 4. Shaq even said that Kobe was huge and he doesn't think they would have won if he didn't step up.

clutchcity25 2 years ago
but what's the point? Kobe being in the discussion?..that doesn't matter...Shaq would still win MVP
its not like Shaq didn't show up in the clutch..he blocked J.Kidd's layup in the waning moments, and hit some very clutch FTs during the series
Truth is, Shaq was just too dominant for the voters not to make it unanimous...36ppg 12rpg 3bpg

Guy has had 4 of the most clutch Finals games in recent memory:
Game 4 of 2000 Finals
Game 3 of 2008 Finals
Game 3 of 2002 Finals
Game 2 of 2004 Finals
Kobe= most clutch player in history.

Don't forget Game 4 of the 2009 Finals. Gave Fisher the assist that gave them the lead.

@243354 Game 3 of 2001 Finals (HUGE shot after Shaq fouled out!)

After Kobe nearly loses the ball and sinks the shot to put the Lakers up 104-100, the exasperated tone of the public address announcer is priceless.

LMAO I wondered if I was gonna be the only one that realized how annoyed and just plain tired of saying Kobe's name after every f'n bucket he stuck.
