it's amazing to me that she didn't do any research on the life of fanny brice when she got the part but I understand why she didn't. She needed to approach the role in a way that was not influenced by the work of those who knew fanny as well as her family. She did a wonderful job. It helped that Barbara was the same age that fanny was when she became a star on stage.
I'm sitting here in the library with tears in my eyes. I have many inspirations in music, but there is NO ONE that moves me as much as this woman, and I'm so grateful for this piece that you have posted. Thank you.
She is brilliant. Now I realize that I listened to the Funny Girl "tape" during my pregnancy and then my own daughter ended up on Broadway in several shows.
she look's like an Eygptian Queen....with the good visagist's help may I say? smile..p.s. my Papa said of Barbara"s singing "she never misses a noteünquote
Such presence of mind for someone who is so young. She's quite articulate and thoughtful in this interview, amazingly. I cannot imagine someone today at that same age being able to speak with such a clear perspective.
What a find! It really brings forth the excitement and thrill of not just the opening night of Funny Girl, but the discovery of Barbra's incomparable talent. She was really on fire then. What a thrill it must have been to have been there. I don't think there is anything in show business today that comes close to her talent.
Three dollars! The opening night tickets were THREE DOLLARS! Oh my...I would give thousands more right now if I could go back to that night. Outstanding.
I ejoyed this very much...it should be in the National Barbra Striesand Museum. (there really ought to be one and one day I'm sure there will.). For now' however, I enjoyed hearing a younger Diana Streisand speak of Emanuel. It was just dear and completely enthralling.
This is so wonderful to hear! I loved it! You gotta love the "of course" comment from Barbra. :) What an explosion onto the scene! Thanks for posting.
You can so much of both her parents in her. Her father was really quite dashing . Can see alot of him in her son Jason. This interview was such a hoot . At 21, still so girlish ,and yet so mature .The song,"Im The Greatest Star!" could not have been wrriten for and sung by anyone else .
If I could invent a time machine to go back to that evening and attend the show, it would be the only musical I would ever want to go to, just to see Barbra. I was asked a couple of days ago who I thought is the most beautiful actress! I immediately answered it is Barbra in the 60s, when she did Funny Girl. If I had a time machine, I would ditch my girlfriend without hesitation!!! I saw her in 2006, she gave ME a wave during her The Way We Were number. I still cannot believe it. The show was WOW
wow, what a blessing...thank you for posting this

Fantastic.
And, of course, SOMEONE had to cough during the opening night performance of "People."

How great that Lauren Bacall was there. Who would have thought 30 years later she would play Bab's mother on film.

Overall great. But the best part was
the seldom seen photos of Barbra´s
father Emanuel at the end of the video,
and barbra´s mother talking about him.
