  • Thanks guys for posting this video from the giant 36" Lick refractor scope. This is the only earth-based video that I've been able to find. Keep up the great work.

I pulled out my little Nexstar 11 and couldn't see much, so it's nice to know what the professional astronomers had access to on the night of the LCROSS impact, despite the fact that your telescope is over 150 years old.

  • Fail!

  • What do you think it hit to not cause a plume? Bedrock or did it hit a steep slope directing the plume? I got up at 3 am to capture it myself but the skies were overcast and wind was around 60 - 70 kph.

  • When the Shoemaker/Levy comet frags were heading for Jupiter there was discussions as to whether or not we would see anything when they impacted into the Jovian atmosphere.

Mr. Shoemaker was stunned when they should him the raw data pics showing the impact marks on the upper cloud decks of Jupiter.

With the LCROSS impact it just might have turned the material into talcum power which is very fine and maybe a very low reflectability; just a guess but other wavelengths do show material.

  • If you were expecting a show just go to the movies. What they're doing here is real science and your entertainment is not part of their plans...

Anyway, the visual spectrum is just a small part of the whole picture. Let's see what we get from the spectroscopy results! The future of space exploration begins here.

  • Real science -- BUAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! NASA = fail.

  • Good job! You saw as much as NASA for a lot less money. I am glad there was independent confirmation of their fail.

  • wow looks like Nasa was testing just how much they could get away with infront of our faces, and looks like we will believe anything they tell us.

Anyone else find it suspicious Obama got his scorching headling distracting Nobel prize the same day as this...quick everyone, pssst look over here at Obama not at Nasa! **Baaaah* Bahaaahhh*

  • Wow....did I miss something? Where was the missile or whatever? Looks more like NASA was counting on people not being able to see anything and then giving us some more doctored photos and BS that a 5 year old wouldn't believe....pathetic. Their funding should be cut completely.

  • Maybe it missed and hit the dark side. Maybe later we'll see photos by sheppard spacecraft and lunar recon orbitor. Maybe it was scratched at the last second. Maybe it was shot out of the sky by unknowns. Maybe it was just a big stunt, that furthered our debt, with no results like so much other the big daddy gov has did recently. Maybe we will never really know excatly what happened, like so much other history we arnt privy too. Maybe,any/all of the above.

These are the days of our lives.

  • there was no impact;

    looks like NASA staged it

  • Why not? They stage everything else. Bloody waste of tax payer money. Close NASA down. It's obsolete.

  • You're completely close minded.

  • Thank you. I screwed up my amateur observations so this is some consolation.

  • nice try guys but i couldn't see anything either

  • Wild 2 had it beat..

  • thanks for this !! my son was very crabby that we didn't have our scope out this morning.. this was a lot better than we could have done with our 16"

  • Don't expect to see anything.

  • Thanks for uploading this. I couldn't watch because the stream kept dropping out.

  • NICER!

  • Second

  • Nice!
